I love these guys, they all have so distinct personalities but still feel like a close group. The dynamic of two that have listened to the album hyping up and explaining a little bit the songs to the other two is so fun.

kinda simplified but The butterfly is the talent, the Caterpillar is you before you realize your talents or exploiting your talents, it's about the evolution of a person.

The way I see it: The caterpillar is Kendrick lamar before he got famous off of gkmc, who understands how harsh life can be and the struggles one faces growing up in the hood, however, his worldview is narrow. Becoming more famous and travelling leads to Kendrick seeing just how large the world beyond his city is, indulging in new experiences. Due to this, Kendrick forgets what it's like to struggle, which is where Kendrick starts to work on the "cocoon" by going back home to gain new perspective. The home being Compton, but also Africa, which he talks about visiting on "Momma", and coming to terms with how little he actually knows despite becoming famous and seeing more of the world. After this, Kendrick comes to understand what truly matters is staying grounded and not losing perspective of where he came from, while also teaching his friends from Compton everything he's learned so that they might unify and stop killing one another. Finally, Kendrick finding this balance between staying grounded and using his newfound fame for the greater good causes wings to emerge, and the cocoon turning into a butterfly, ending his internal struggle.

Momma is about Africa, 1st verse is about how rap took him back home Africa, 2nd verse he recites all the things he knows including his home town compton then found out he didn't know shit till he came home Africa, 3rd verse about a kid in south Africa he met in the street telling him to go back and tell his homies to come back home to Africa, how much a dollars coast is in South Africa. Tpab is about how america (uncle sam) pimp black people and how the industry (lucy) pimp black artists. The 2pac audio is an original unheard interview until that time that a swedish journalist gave him

The interview is a sample from a rare 1994 interview between Tupac and Swedish radio host Mats Nileskär

for albums like this you gotta be willing to sit through a long story and break it down.

“I” was the first single from the album. It came out around the time there was a lot going on in America with police brutality and violence in our communities. It was the version that’s actually on the album tho, but an actual recording.

It’s definitely Pac. PAC’s mom gave Kendrick unheard interviews and other things and allowed him to use it for the album.
