Most people in the Gunpla world knows that premium bandai isn't premium lol the stuff comes in extremely cheap looking monochrome boxes.. looks like random crap they just throw together to make a quick buck off highly dedicated fans.

It’s been kinda weird seeing P-Bandai’s “evolution” over the years. Back in the day like 10-12 years ago P-Bandai was pretty much reserved for niche/one-off characters and forms which made sense imo. Nowadays though it feels like P-Bandai is reserved for whatever Bandai isn’t confident will sell absolute gangbusters at retail.

for real, i’m so sick of it. any figure that isn’t goku or a very popular variant of another major character gets put on p-bandai. makes it very discouraging to collect this line for me because i don’t live in the US, so any figure that isn’t a regular release is difficult for me to obtain.

And that's fine imo, but since they're all limited release they could at least put more effort in. Gero and 19 are likely never getting released again, or at least not for a long time, so people who like them are stuck with half-assed figures of them. Like, how come Turles and Final Form Cooler got so much effort put into them, but then the actual canon characters like these two androids get shafted? It's just odd.

For a person outside the US and Japan, P-Bandai is not viable for me. The shipping + the higher price is simply more than what I'm willing to pay. Having characters like Beast Gohan be P-Bandai is outright baffling. Given the QC issues as of late, shf is less customer friendly than ever before now!

Half the problem with the cost of these figures is that they are converted from the msrp yen price straight to US and not at the current exchange rate. For example I just got back from Japan and from the Tamashii Nations satellite store I snagged Yamato and the Robot Spirits Blitz for 90ish dollars combined, where if I got them here Yamato alone is listed for 95$. Premium Bandai should go back to what it was originally meant for, obscure recolors and characters. This guy is literally the reason the Android/Cell sagas happened and putting such an important story character behind a limited exclusive release is dumb.

The thing is....Dr. Gero has NEVER been popular, especially in comparasion to his creations. His role in the story though pivotal has never translated to merch sales and he along with 19 have always been completionist only characters. Hell, if 19 wasn't vegeta's first enemy has a super saiyan, then almost nobody would care for it's existence. I agree that premium should be reserved to niche or obsocure characters...but, Dr. Gero would not be a good seller has a wide release hence he got the premium treatment.

I liked the concept of P-bandai initially. Lot of the early DBZ figures felt like stuff Id never really expect from the line and was happy to grab like Labcoat 21 or Turles. Even Zarbon and Dodoria. But more and more its looking like a way to leverage fomo. Sure I understand why Metal Cooler would be a premium mto figure, but thats one I can see people wanting to army build. The one and done for iconic characters is becoming stupid. Mecha Frieza, 19, and 20 are from some of my prime viewing era of DBZ and I had to miss them and theyre stupid on the secondary market. Sure if you want to make a Super 17 p-bandai I get that. But its becoming harder for me to tell what the deciding factor unless theyre a Z-fighter saiyan.

Literally rewatching DBZ now and on the Android Saga.. Unless the anime got it drastically wrong, Gero should def be around Goku's height. These figures look cheaper and cheaper all the time. It's like they want you to spend more money to get the paint yourself, lol.

Quantity over quality is really killing this line. Very few releases are straight up trash, but even less are actually impressive. Like 19 and 20 have amazingly accurate sculpts, but that feels like it’s just so they never have to revisit them rather than because they care (if they cared those shoulders would look way different and they’d at least get matte coats). I’ve only been collecting for a little over two years but this quality drop is already so noticeable and really not giving any confidence for their future announcements

Before there are P-bandai, there were Bandai Spirit in Japan only. The make up reason was "limited release for not famous characters", but they still release a must characters/gundams at that time. Exclusive only mean Bandai can earn that money exclusively. Now, Bandai do not care about their products as they used too. The only line keep improving are Ganpla. A lot of expensive lines are worse than 10 years ago.

it seems like the reason they made him so small is because he was drawn slightly shorter than android 17, so they scaled him with 17 and 18, which are both pretty small figures.

i think they chose to make thse more rare character as exclusives because they know the average customer is more likely to buy a blue goku blue vegeta or broly than more obscure characters, a lot of the american db community hasn't even seen the full show, so they just produce less of characters like these, they happen to be lore expensive for the rarity and end up in premium, for rarity not quality. Is that possible?

i’ve just recently started collecting aside from the occasional here and there purchases of sh figuarts dragon ball. so far i’ve got: Super Saiyan Goku Goku raised on earth final form frieza walmart exclusive Kaio Ken Goku Super Saiyan Vegeta Superhero Vegeta Super Saiyan Trunks (armor) Trunks Superhero Broly Piccolo Android 21 Krillin Bardock and the new super saiyan Gohan will be the next addition to the collection!!

I think what a lot of the new collectors overlook now is the lack of paintwork, I still think some of the old sh figuarts like the original frieza look so much better due to that added paintwork

The moment they made kid Gohan an exclusive that was where I started to become annoyed. I'm definitely much more selective in what I buy now days from this line compared to years ago.

Preordered this one. Arrived with no issues. I had none of the problems other people have, other than the mustaches being very delicate and easy to bend, other than that, great figure. Also the bonus heart attack face is a little too dark, but it works well. Perfect scale too

Looked up images of his height compared to Goku, he is supposed to be shorter but not that damn short. Goku is 5’9 and Gero should be about 5’8 or 5’7.5 I don’t know what Bandai was thinking.

I'm over the amount of PB figures since as you said its more expense for figures that arent better, sometimes offering some of the worst figures they've released so far with PB. As for A20 like A19 from promos I was excited they were getting made and hoped they would be at least on the level of Zarbon & Dodoria but here with his bad leg articulation, really off plasticity skin and trousers. 2 figures I regret preordering tbh.

Too much shading is bad, first DB figures looked like they stood in granny's closet for a few years. Now they look just like they should, bright and crisp and not dusty. Also not every DB figure needs perfect splits especially androids because they are not martial artists. You definitely overjudged this figure

He is 5'5" compared to Goku's 5'9", so size isn't too far off. He needs paint on the pants to make it look less plastic. 6/10 is fair overall for this $90 figure. I am glad we had the choice to get another important character.

The Premium Bandai figures are definitely feeling more and more overpriced. I normally don't care about scale very much, but he definitely looks too small next to other figures. I'm guessing they scale them down to save on plastic, which is just ridiculous considering how crazy expensive these figures are.

Definitely a bit underwhelming. It's a shame the P-Bandai exclusives haven't been turning out too well when it comes to androids (unless you consider Metal Cooler an android). I think his size is okay, it wasn't that consistent in the show and scale is not this line's strong suit. As long as he's smaller than Piccolo and looks fine next to 19 I think it's okay. I don't like the finish though. His complexion looks really dark and those pants and vest are ugly. Damn shame because, as you noted, it's highly unlikely Bandai ever revisits this character in the future so if you need an Android 20 this is probably all you're going to get.

I thought premium bandai was supposed to be premium quality.. like I don’t get how they make gero a premium Bandai exclusive but their best figure of all time as of right now legendary super saiyan goku is a general release which is cheaper and comes with more and has the best articulation with a great kamehameha effect piece

This figure to me is such a wild disappointment. When I received the package and opened it, both feet were disconnected in the box, the whole neck and head were disconnected from the body. The plastic shell holding the figure was tattered with little pieces all over. Now if that isn’t enough, the figure is WAY too small, and just won’t look good in any display as a result. I’m just so mad with some of these recent releases, because I know they can do better
