S Iswaran responds to clarifications sought by MPs on SPH media restructuring

SPH is not bankrupt, the money in SPH is from the earning of newspaper and magazine accumulate earlier on and reinvest , how come these money in SPH is not use to support newspapers and magazine instead they want to use the taxpayers' money? They use the money to invest in properties and earn and enjoy the money and taxpayers bear their losses. The moral issue come in, who should bear the losses and pay. It cannot be the taxpayers.

Taxpayers should not be responsible for the errors of Management, who are paid Millions even when the business is failing.

Why the waste of time to debate SPH money loosing media biz. If it’s not making $$$, just cut off the biz or sell it to Temasek for profit. Shareholders should not subsidize the new CLG.

Dear Minister, what's the motivation behind Govt willingness to fund a public listed company who wants to remove it's loss making entity? By setting such a precedence, can other companies such as Singpost with a loss making postal unit to do the same? Who's next? SMRT...Comfort Delgro? All wait to use taxpayers' monies to fund loss making entities?

I was thinking why not in first place bring straits times to merge with cna since both are doing media and it can be consider a transformation exercise and this is can save cost, manpower and office space.

No need to merge if want to save cost just let CNA take over and dissolve ST. CNA is more updated, modern and sophisticated in many aspect.

His replies are spot on and clear. If the shareholders of SPH have not prepared for the figures, no point giving the wrong information. Additionally, viability of the business of the GLC needs to be ironed out. Those are not something that takes days, but months.
