My cat knows that too, she is attached to my hip when I am sitting down or laying in bed. However, she is still mortally terrified of the vacuum cleaner. I try to time vacuuming after she eats her breakfast, but still early, because I know she will hide the rest of the day, and I want her back to her normal self before her supper. She either hides in a closet or between the bookcase and the wall. Luckily we moved in 2017, and now have hardwoods and laminates, so I don't have to vacuum often. I have even tried to put her on the screened in porch (she loves it out there) when I vacuum to make it less traumatic, but I still found her in a tiny ball hiding in a box of reusable bags.

My aunt once had a cat follow her home from a bus stop. He sat crying on the porch until she let him in . . . she named him Buddy. I gave him his full name of Buddy Q. Stepsetter. He was not at all an active cat, but he got to where he followed you around if you were vacuuming and demand you vacuum him with the hose. He loved it. She and my uncle got him to do exercise by making him follow them through the house to get his body vacuumed.
