My personal hypothesis held that Strelock was unique in not needing a detector - a side effect of his prior visits to the power-plant. Similar to how a few other characters are attributed slightly beyond normal abilities - such as Forester and Noah using compas artifacts, or Vano being good at going through anomaly fields. Might also explain why the items have different abilities in the first game - he literally has a unique relation with the zone. I like your theory that CoC artifacts grow in the absence of emissions. That fits a little more with the amoral nature of the zone.

Little known fact, you can use the artefacts that protect you from fire to heal your armour, carry enough in your belt to exceed 100% protection, stand in an fire barrel or other fire and the durability of your armour will automatically rise to 100%, works with any armour.

As for no other stalkers using artifacts, I always thought of “don’t get high on your own supply”. Artifact abilities are well noted, but the main draw is their value. It’s not that everyone sells them because they are scared of the effects, but because they are worth lots of money. Nobody is in the zone to become god besides the player, everyone is there for the money. Only the seriously hardened keep them to use them. That being said, there’s still no reason the monolith soldiers don’t use them. They aren’t after money, and certainly encounter artifacts. Increasing monolith efficiency only benefits the c-consciousness

I had the same theory about artifacts and their differences. SoC had a unique scenario where the center of the zone believed itself to be safe.

In regards to DNA altering, in the novel Roadside Picnic, stalkers are all heavily genetically modified after traveling in the zone. This modification has little to no visible effects, although it's implied it might be why successfuly stalkers have such good instincts and are generally pretty tough. However one invariable effect it has is the children of stalkers are always extremely mutated. I won't say much more because it's a pretty big portion of the latter half of the story, but that may be a factor as well.

the reason for that is the aliens that invaded earth wanted to change humanity into their image. its hinted at later in the book. Stalker has no aliens as the zone formed because of the nosphere.

Do you think the Ecologists and Kiev Research Institute will be able to harness artifacts power? Like Stingray Choppers having a forcefield that can be activated and deactivated by a gravitational artifact in an artifact activator?

I believe they will be able to do it, at least with enough time and ressources, and probably not to their full power. Considering that even Cardan could make his own makeshift batteries using the flash, I think one of the easiest and most important appliciations would be in the field of energetics.

Awesome work with all of this research, great vid. The theory about artifacts being able to cause mutations is very interesting. I also remember that in Clear Sky, Uncle Yar tells Scar about special artifacts which can somehow generate small, short-lived anomalies. These artifacts become useless after that happens, and he also hints that one can use their special property as a distraction, in case of being chased or something like that. I don't think that anyone else mentions such artifacts in any of the games, but it's still pretty interesting

When I first played Stalker, I didn't bother with the artefacts at all because of their negative attributes. I got through the game making money by doing quests, hoarding weapons & mutant parts & selling them. During my second playthrough, I decided to try selling an artefact I got literally for free to a scientist just for the hell of it. My eyes opened really big when I looked at the money offered. So, uh, here's a stalker who played the game wrong from the get-go, LoL 😆

@@anomalousdugout9557 What I find interesting is the ingenuity of using flash artifact as Gauss rifle battery. In-game description said that the flash readily absorbs electricity and release it. So essentially the flash is a natural supercapacitor (made in anomaly). It could explain why despite the gauss gun in the underground lab produces a promising test results, the project seems to be abandoned because there's no power source that's compact enough to be used as a magazine for the scaled-down version, until someone had a bright idea to use flash artifact as a power source (and also implies that it's better than commercially available supercapacitors on the market). If this is true, then after the gauss batteries are depleted, it can be simply recharged again like supercapacitors, owing to the flash artifact's special characteristic

Some even apparently put it on their tongues to make it glow. It's very possible that the people buying jewelry made with artifacts are not even aware that they are radioactive considering it would have to be bought illegally.

There is actually an official explanation on why the properties are different between games. In SOC, the artifact system was too difficult to understand at that time, so in their next games GSC decided to simplify the system by leaving radiation as the only negative property.

A personal theory about why so many stalkers do not use the artifacts. The veterans know so much about the Zone, that they can survive in the deadly environment without any artifacts, or they simply do not want attention from looters as you mentioned. The rookies however, they have no idea about the potential of the artifact beside the easy profit, based on what I have seen when people play the games for the first time. They seem to sell every artifact rather than using them. Maybe the rookies in the Zone are like that too?

Yes that makes a lot of sense! Although some very experienced stalkers do use artifacts, for example Forester and Noah used the Compass. Perhaps Noah's illness (loss of memory, paranoïa against mutants...) appeared because of the Compass, as we know from Zulu that he used to be normal back in the day.

Something I also wonder is if there is enough artifacts being transported outside the zone, would the world be more technologically advanced? I mean there is exo-skeletons, gauss rifles, and PDA's but I think artifacts outside the zone might be a similar case as to nuclear fusion power. Where only rich, superpower nations like Russia, USA, China, can construct and experiment on such artifacts with advanced technology. So artifact experimentation could be a similar case where only advanced and close proximity nations can fully experiment and understand artifacts. This could mean that as time goes on, the zone might slowly become either more anarchistic or be pressured by either the military or mercenaries to clean up the place and end the era of STALKER's itself. I wonder if Strelok would either be in prison or executed if he ever revealed on what he did to the C-conciousness and its consequences. Hopefully Stalker 2 might reveal more on what the outside world has done with artifacts and if it has done leaps in humanity.

I was with you until 16:00, because most of what you said was backed up directly in the game. However, how could the lab x-16 psy emitter be created with artifacts? It predates the Zone itself

I did not say that the psy-emitter was created with artifacts. Because we can find artifacts stored in boxes in the labs, we know that the labs continued to work after the appearance of the Zone and that the scientists discovered and studied the artifacts. They even found a way to create batteries for the Gauss rifle, so they could have used similar technology to provide energy for their installations.

I guess it's possible to do so since fragments are used. It is also possible that an anomaly would spawn, because it is implied by Yar in Clear Sky that an "artifact activation" technique can be used to sacrifice some artifacts to create anomalies.

In "Roadside picnic" the book Stalker is loosely based off of, artifacts seem to be indestructible by all known methods or at least "empties" are indestructible. It's not mentioned if any of the others are able to be destroyed.

Also,artifacts in Anomaly are kinda the same,most of them,but most are gone from the game,and new ones are there,one is a very rare "killer" as this category is called ingame, the Death Lamp artifact,which is described as a "cursed and red" artifact,also said the the first stalkers to get it were a group of 2 who found it and didn't want to sell it,and later one of them was found dead with a horrific grin on his face,the other stalker's fate is unknown, it appears that it resembles a big,flat-capped red mushroom,and having a bright red moving leaves under it's red cap and a white,thick stem,also it does not move in any kind,but it emits a gold wave of unknown origin.

many people doesn't know about what STALKER means in the zone. So they left in the zone after the evac happened in apri 27. max 197 people not evac'ed and the Military called them S.T.A.L.K.E.R.S. but idk how S.T.A.L.K.E.R.S Stalking uh nevermind. the people who left in the zone started going to home and started to rot by rad. now in the STALKER games people mostly break in to enjoy their life in the zone. mostly joinin factions example: Duty, freedom,Loner,Bandit,etc. and doin some tasks or missions,or destroy other factions i'm with the Bandits btw

@@anomalousdugout9557 Also you have to do a complex puzzle,running trought pillars,and then going trough "gates" as they are called,and then unlocking the main room,where the artifact is located,in the above-mentioned location,lying on the overgrown mini-swamp as I like to call it,no detector required to get it to show up as all the other artifacts (I think) ,good armour and good guns needed ,for armour either a exo-suit,or a exo-skeloton,preferably max upgraded,and a max upgraded shotgun,from what I saw while playing complete vannila,best shotgun is TOZ 34 "Bull",having max damage and best ammo,I don't know where you get it from,I use the Debug Menu to get complex items that are too complex for me. Also the Armsel Protecta Custom,max upgraded is also good,and a AKM,max upgraded,AK 74M with it's new and better model and sounds,AK 74N Custom,also with better model and better sounds,or PKM or M249 SAW. For artifacts,there are KZbin tutorials,it's tricky,but you will get it,the game is very different itself,but hey,a new standalone STALKER game that is getting pretty common for it's insane modpacks that make the game even more realistic and challenging. Would you try Anomaly and Iike post your experience with it on KZbin,like I play Anomaly since it is like a bit better than the originals but has the main concept. I would really like finding out what you think about it,since I would really like seeing you play and post stuff about it, I do play Call Of Pripyat with GUNSLINGER mod for immersion and don't really enjoy it that much since it is short and pretty boring for me. I don't force you to play,I'm just posting a game request. It is a STALKER mod,but it is that game that lets you play after the changes in the main games. It is kinda tied to the main games,like the Stingrays from Call Of Pripyat are still there and you can visit them in their locations,not so sure about Stingray 4 tho. Also the Monolith crystal is still there and you can visit it and make a wish at it. The Psy-Brain in X-16 has a more worn and abandoned look,along with the whole factory and lab itself from my experience ,X-18 has the same feel too, X-19 for the first time is creepy as hell and very worn down to make you want to get out ,atleast that was me when I firstly played the game and went in by accidentand I was creeped out so much that I lost my way and was really desperate to get out of there, X-8 is the creepiest,my first experience within the lab freaked me out even more than X-19,like the deeper you go in it,you can find a big room with one door open,that leads to bathroom with a Burrer in it, and a poltergeist,as your screen goes to blue-violet like color,and you also hear babies crying from within the lab,and one in that bathroom in a a ceeling vent like above you as you enter it. I hope I don't annoy you,felleow stalker.

It is possible, but some NPCs still have artifacts in their inventories, and the traders known about them since they ask for them, so who knows...

I know it sound horrific,but imagine if in STALKER 2 having insanely radioactive artifacts can make you become a mutant and play like a mutant,like snorks,butters,controllers etc. That would be INSANE
