I'm fairly sure, canonically, emissions do turn STALKERs into zombies. That and the brain scorcher. Not certainly in that way. Emissions, being pure and uncontrolled energy of the noosphere, sweep through the human nervous system like a lightning strike. Then it all depends on how strong the nerves of a particular person are. For some, the whole nervous system is shattered, the brain dies and the person too, it turns others into zombifieds, and for someone, for example, Scar and Degtyarev after the achievement, don’t give a shit at all. The Monolith troops is recruited in a slightly different way. His fighters are not zombifeds, their nervous system is not burned out and 100% fine, but their memories and beliefs changed for complete submission, while they retain all their intelligence, ability to handle weapons, think through tactics, and so on. For comparison: the zombies cannot be cured, they already have porridge instead of brains, while the Monolith fighters can be rid of influence and return to their former personality, as was the case with the Rogue's squad.

@@Bondrewd__21 Curious fact, in Spanish we have the word "mamá" (mom) to also refer to other things, such as. Mama (without the emphasis) means breast. it's also the conjugated 2nd person (singular) of the verb "mamar" (to suck, but used in the context of babies being breastfed) for example "el mama" (he sucks) Kinda cool.

But damn even though their zombies, they didnt want this and what makes it more emotional is that they're so human. They have more humanity then any games dialogue. The humanity and character these guys have make it so emotional especially the fact you have to kill them, but it's more of a mercy killing. Holy fuck this is really sad. I'm gonna have to check this game out. It's like all of them have so much emotion some sad, some angry, some kind like a child or a kind hearted person. "I'm bleeding...bleeding...mom..." I never knew what they were saying. Now it makes sense. They truly have the worst fate and the best thing to do for them is to put them out of their misery. Truly living a fate worse than death. It's like only a tiny sliver of their humanity remains, but they're unable to perceive reality. Like being trapped in a cube of fogged glass only able to make out vague shapes and light, you're trapped within yourself and it's so damn surreal; completely unaware you've been robbed of yourself and now shamble like the dead even using guns. Honestly the some of the best zombies in media, hits a lot classic notes: Waves, feels like there's a never ending of them, slowly making their way towards you, the transformation can happen to anyone because of poor luck, and that less than an animal acting on instinct. While also doing subversions I really like: they're not even dead, they can shoot you (All be it with poor aim), and the thing no story I've seen do right: actually humanize them. They're trying to grip on their humanity and wanting to go home with both being futile. It becomes a mixture of wishing you can help them, not wanting to cause any more suffering to them, but also realizing the best option for their (and your) sake no matter how you frame it is to kill them. They can't be cured, they're suffering because of what's left of their memories, if they make it out of the zone somehow they'll just attack someone else, and while not biologically yet they're already dead. They're humanized yet at the same time framed in a way where you still should kill them. Not even in a "Putting down a sick dog way", no this is something else entirely. The Zone is one screwed up place.

@egonieser2 жыл бұрын
It could be worse, you could've turned into a Monolith. Which are basically zombies just not deteriorated yet, but as you can see, many of them are in a worse state than others which implies they all eventually become zombified. Anomalous Dugout covered this pretty well. Zombies and Monolith are the same result, just one is mild - other severe, but even the Monolith brains are damaged beyond repair and once they outlive their usefulness they most likely just turn into zombies. They might be acting human still, but all their higher brain function has been washed. They're basically just more agile zombified's
@zezek752 жыл бұрын
@@egonieser How about Strider and the guys then? From this perspective, it looks more like Monolith are under active mind control, not permanently damaged/altered.

@@GeneralTantzu It also begs the question to how Strider and his men escaped the mind control. These are questions that might've been answered in the STALKER 2, but......

@@CeizoBro To a degree! The Ukrainian alphabet is different from the Russian alphabet (although afaik the written words in the world of STALKER are mostly in Russian, due to the fact that Ukraine/Belarus was part of the USSR at the time of the CNPP meltdown - and IRL Pripyat is still pretty much the same as it was in '86, except with a load more trees and overgrowth). And I know that some letters are pronounced differently. Then again, I did read something that stated they share 62% of the same vocabulary, which isn't exactly a small number in terms of language similarity. I also thought there were a lot of differences in their words. Main reason I say that is because after learning a bit of Russian, going to then learn some Ukrainian was a pretty big headache for me. But, я идиот. It kinda seems like the similarities between Portuguese and Spanish. I guess you could sorta work out the general gist of what someone is saying, but to get the nuanced context, I'm not so sure.
