@@80sDon I appreciate the insight. I haven't shot the pps, but that was my take away from the video. However, with the price differential at the time, I was able to install an apex trigger and +2 magguts and still be cheaper than the pps. In the end, higher capacity in the shield was the deciding factor.
@seanoneil277
@seanoneil277 3 жыл бұрын
@@beastkiler2 But the capacity difference isn't huge. Not saying you're wrong, just saying it's possible to choose the lesser-capacity PPS M2 and still be well equipped. I'll admit that the marketing hoopla around all micros these days centers around "MORE CAPACITY!" but there's lots of folks who carry single-stack pistols of 7 or 8 rounds quite comfortably where capacity is concerned. I'd rather train to be accurate and rely on training, than ignore training and get more capacity for a "spray and pray" scenario. But not everyone likes training or has time for it, I suppose. And if you don't have a micro and are seeking your first, the capacity issue takes greater prevalence for sure. I suppose I'm saying it's not wise to drop a well-shooting micro just for another with more capacity. Unless a person's flush with $$, in which case, buy often I suppose!

FWIW - I tried the slide release after 300 rounds and mine worked just fine. Good review, and accurate. This is a phenomenal addition to the Shield family. I swapped the Trijicon sights I had on my first generation Shield with the factory sights on the Shield Plus - no issues. And it fits my holster, so no extra expense there if you already have a Shield holster.

In the Shield Plus parts schematic the correct term for the part you are having trouble with is "Slide Stop." Not "Slide Release." EVERY instructor, gunsmith, etc I have ever consulted with calls it a slide stop, and the correct way to release the slide and put the weapon into battery is to pull back on the slide and release it, NOT use the slide stop. But what do I know?

I bought my Shield Plus after shooting one at the range. I’ve had my Shield for some time and love it but, like my wife, it’s getting old. I discovered that I am more accurate with the Plus than I am with the Shield that I’ve put a thousands of rounds through. Even taking time with the Shield, the Plus still is more accurate for me. Since I’m 69, I appreciate that it’s easier to rack too. At 69, it’ll probably be my last gun purchase. And since I mentioned the wife, she’s been my best friend for 43 years now. She’s probably my last wife. I don’t have enough money to attract a younger wife who’d treat me like she does. And I just can’t imagine a younger wife sticking around when I need my diaper changed some day.

Great review Dave. Picked up my Shield plus a couple of days ago and its everything you say it is. The size difference is negligible as you said and the trigger is sweet. Mine has the thumb safety but its so stiff you could never engage it accidently, and for me at least the slide stop does work as a slide release. This is my 4th shield and by far the best.

There’s a trick using the slide release. If the slide locks open on an empty mag after firing, and a fresh mag is inserted, the slide lock will easily drop and you can chamber the round without sling shot-ing. A live round or an empty case must be ejected with the magazine in for this to work. If you drop the mag and then eject the case or live round, this won’t work. Bottom line, if the gun is fired to empty with the mag in, you can press down on the slide lock to easily chamber a round. Without the mag in, locking the slide to the rear and then inserting a fresh mag will not allow you to use the slide lock as a release. You can see it work at the 25 minute mark.

I noticed that you were mentioning advertised muzzle velocity’s. I often frequent Ballistics by the inch website when I’m considering a new pistol as a carry option. They have some common carry loads and show velocities with different barrel lengths. Very interesting and sometimes eye opening information. If you are looking at an advertised muzzle velocity you can bet in most cases that was chronographed out of a 4-5 inch barrel by the manufacturer. Which means obviously it’s going to be less out of a small compact carry pistol with a 3-3.5 inch barrel. That loss in velocity might render your carry loads a lot less effective. Food for thought. Of course shot placement is king no matter what you are carrying. Great video Justin. Thank you for all your hard work. I hope you regain your monetization. Love your content and delivery.

We have mostly Smith's, old and new here. I couldn't pass this up. And cheaper than my 40 to run all the time. The whole package was $450. Includes 4x13 clips, and 1x10 round clip for the smaller grip. Can't wait. I had a full size M&P 40 M2.0 in 4.25 length. Great range gun, but not so much a carry for my 5'6" height and barrel build. I bought a shield because everyone loves it and I’m a M&P guy. I found out 1) it was too thin and uncomfortable to shoot 2) the slide release didn’t work 3) it jams when dirty (no more than 80 rounds is pathetic!) 4) it was not comfortable to carry inside waistband and was heavy and awkward on ankle 5) it was very difficult to rack 6)the resale value was shit and I took a bath on it. If this new one is anything like it I would definitely pass! Was hoping it would be bigger and better.

None of that is true. Especially #3 - I’ve fired thousands of rounds through my shield and it’s been flawless. Slide stop is not a release - it’s meant to be slingshotted. That’s the way it’s designed. Finally, it’s not too difficult to rack once it’s broken in - same with the slide stop. Sounds like you barely shot it at all and gave up on it.

About the 10 round magazine states.... you will get two mags with this gun... but the hi capacity will not be given to you. SW promises to send the additional 2nd 10 round mag... but.... they will not. You will not get the magazine as promised. Forget about it..... it's not being send by SW as assured. Don't allow the salesman to say otherwise.

The original Shield was my favorite EDC , until all the micro high capacity 9mm came out. I picked up the Shield Plus and I’m all in again.

I think the shield is a compact I don't think it's a subcompact or mini pistol.

I don't know if I have a particularly strong thumb, I don't think I do, but of the three Shield +s I have handled, including the one I now own, I can release the slide without overmuch difficulty. It is a stiffer than average control. My Gen 1 Shield was also stiff in all controls too when new but loosened up nice and smooth after a hundred rounds. I figure the same will be the case for the plus.

You really do some of the best shooting reviews on KZbin. I hope you dont let the censorship get you down. They are attacking everyone that does not share their views. Keep up the fight and good work!

Thank you, that is kind. The amount of money and time it takes to produce decent videos is significant. I have invested serious money in equipment and I spend nearly all my available time doing it. If I can't at least have the opportunity to recover the costs and hope to one day profit - it will slowly die. Just loving doing it is just not enough, I'm afraid. That is how they win.

I hope you find a sponsor. This channel is worth saving. If you have access to them, can you measure the width of the CZ 75 magazines vs the CZ P10C magazines. I know the new ones are wider but no one can tell me how much wider.

I am new to the gun community, though my father was an avid gun collector. I have subscribed to your channel and a few others. I find yours very objective and i like your honest opinion on things. Unfortunately right now I am not in a position that can financially contribute to your channel. I wish I could and if my situation changes I certainly will. Hopefully those at KZbin who make these decisions will take their heads out of their butts, and lighten the **** up. Keep doing what you do as long as you can.

We're not selling miracle water here, and I would never want to take a penny from someone that can't afford to give it. Your subscribing, hitting "like", and commenting is a great support for the channel, and is much appreciated!

Hang in there buddy, in the end things always seem to have a way of working out. But yeah, KZbin seems awful arbitrary in their demonetization policy. You and Honest Outlaw are my favorite gun channels, and dare I say...the best gun channels. Most all the gun channels are still running ads, which i guess means they still collect add revenue. I just don't get it.

Actually, I see a dedicated Slide STOP as a bonus. It keeps people from dropping the slide on an empty chamber, which will mess up any gun. Not just a 1911.

Nice review Justin. Smith took an already great gun and made it even better. Mine is so comfortable to carry I hardly know it's there.
