The m&p is a great reliable option. The newer m&p's also have the newer "flat" trigger which is more easy to work

i recently retired as an LEO from the 2nd largest US city. My dept authorized its officers to carry Glock's in the early 2000's. One thing that people should understand is that the rank and file of most police depts (street cops) do not get to decide which firearm they can carry, its a bean counter in an office at City Hall. The reason that my city and Chief approved the Glock and began to issue them to its new recruits was $$. The City was saving $350.00 per pistol package by issuing Glock's, instead of the Beretta 92fs pistols. My dept subsequently approved the S&W M&P's, 1911,s, and FN pistols. A lot of the officers that were issued Glock's in the police academy, got rid f their Glock's and switched to other approved pistols. Just before I retired, my dept stopped issuing Glock's to their new recruits and began to issue the S&W M&P's.

Interesting...I retired from the fourth largest city in the country. That department has never issued firearms. I started in revolvers (1977) and during my career carried 357...41 mag...40 caliber, and 45 ACP. Department went through a period of time when all new officers and veteran officers who wished to carry a new handgun had to purchase from a specified list of brands in 40 caliber. In the years since I retired, the department has returned to all the popular handgun calibers...9MM...40 caliber...and 45 ACP again from a specified list. I didn't own a Glock until 9 years after I retired...Glock 22 and a Glock 30.

@@Lee-rq1ek I went thru the academy in 1985 and was issued a Smith and Wesson model 67 38 spcl in stainless steel. Thats weird that a dept from the 4th largest city does not issue its new officers service pistols when they are hired. So if a person is hired from the dept you retired from the new officer has to buy his own uniform duty weapon? In 1989 my dept approved the Beretta 92fs for duty use. However it only issued the 92's to its newly hired officers that were going thru the academy. If you wanted to transition to the 92 fs as a veteran officer, you had to buy yourn own Beretta 92fs and the dept would put you thru the training, which is what I did. And the dept had a list of firearm vendors from where you could buy the 92fs. My police dept has a gun/inform/police supply store at the police academy, so thats where I bought it. I carried that 92fs for the next 28 years until I retired after 32 years. My dept eventually approved other pistols and calibers, but I stuck to my Beretta for uniform duty.

@@doobiedoo7623 Yes...purchasing their own firearms has always been the policy. The reason the city does this is to save money from the city budget. The best reason is the officers are allowed to choose their handguns (from a specified brand list) in 9MM...40 cal...and .45ACP. I think most officers will take care of their weapons better as well as one size does not fit all. I remember when your department went to the Beretta. I never cuddled up to Beretta 92...I always thought the pistol was over built for a 9MM. As a retired officer under the LEOSA I carry the S&W 2.0 3.6" 9MM...an S&W 2.0 9MM with the 5" barrel...a Glock 30...and infrequently a Glock 22. Have a great, safe retirement.

I retired from the 246th largest city. Our department always issued its NEW recruits their handguns: S&W model 64, then model 5906, followed by model 4006. However, officers were always ALLOWED to purchase their own guns, as long as it was the same make and model as the issue gun. So, not being a recruit, when I wanted to upgrade from the revolver to the semiauto, I had to buy my own 5906. It was when the department went to the 4006 that we were all issued the same gun. (I bought my own 4006 anyway, because I wanted adjustable sights.) The department then started issuing Glock 17's to all recruits, until one rookie accidentally shot a suspect. The department blamed it on the Glock's "light trigger," and as a stopgap installed a heavier trigger on all the issued Glocks. They eventually dumped the Glocks in favor of the M&P 1.0 (.40 S&W). The downside was that they made all the rest of us turn in our issued 4006's, which to this day I consider the better gun. (I was glad I had purchased my own 4006; it was heartbreaking to turn in that issued 4006, which had barely been fired.) It's been a while since I retired, so I imagine they've switched from the M&P.1.0 to something else. But you can see where all those "law enforcement buy-backs" come from.

@@georgegravette1132 I was issued a S&W Model 67 when I went through the academy. About 4 years after I graduated, they approved the Beretta 92fs and I bought one. If you were an veteran officer and wanted to upgrade, you had to buy your own and the dept put you through the training. About a year after approving the Beretta, they approved the S&W 4000, 5000 and 6000. I bought a S&W Model 6906 for off duty carry. I absolutely love the 6909. I wish I had bought the full size version of the pistol. Our dept had a lot of cops that had negligent discharges with their Glocks. I am not a big fan of striker fired pistols for on duty. I prefer the double action of a semi auto pistol better, because it gives you a little more time to analyze before you pull the trigger. I have never bought a used pistol because I do not feel comfortable doing so, unless I were to buy one from a friend who I trust.

I know you're former law enforcement so I'm not going to be "teaching" you anything, but one little trick I started doing when shooting one-handed, is to not try to hold the gun upright. I hold the gun at the natural angle my arm goes out, which ends up holding the gun at like a 45-degree angle with the sights angled in a bit. It feels more natural and I find that I control my shots better that way than trying to force the gun straight upright.

I looked at a g19 when I was looking for an off duty pistol but I feel like the m&p has so much more character than the glock. I'm a Smith and Wesson guy... never acquired the Glock feel... I am far more accurate with S&W personally. Also, side note, I do a fair amount of one handed shooting, because most defense situations won't give you the opportunity for correct weaver stance or whatever two handed competition stance you like, but will likely involve fighting for your life... I do need to do more weak hand shooting, again you never know when your good hand may be out of commission.

Glocks were great for their time, but they just can’t hold up against a modern firearm. Glocks are great and I’d still trust my life to one, but would never choose one against an M&P 2.0 for any reason ever.

Could use some weak hand drills.. almost always when u finger/arm gets shot/hit with shrapnel, it's going to be on your strong side. Weak side training is an absolute must. Another great video, no surprise coming from CF

I thought the M&P’s were kind of dumb until I got one in a fortunate trade back in 2018. I was amazed at how much better they shot than my Glocks. 5 years later, I no longer own any Glocks. Guess which pistols I still have? 😂

The M&P has stainless steel slide and internals from the factory, the glock doesn't. what the M&P doesn't have that the glock has is that darn gaping gap in between the slide and the dust cover.

Carried them both, both are fine in my experience. I have found the gen 5 Glock to work better for me. But really not a big enough difference to make a difference once you get comfortable with either.

A genuine win/win situation. I went w/ S&W because it's a traditional American company. That being said, I would have no reservations with looking into a Glock for the future. My wife has a 43X and is happy with it.

Im so glad S&W fixed their triggers on newer models. Either way, put an Apex flatty in, and it's one of the best pistols under $1k you buy.

Issued both. Love the glock for simplicity in the armory, but the grip angle on the M&P and the 2.0 trigger make it superior. Glock trigger is spongey, and the grip angle isn't natural for most.

I'm a beginner but did fire the M&P with optic-height sights at a pistol range. Had a tough time hitting the target, moreso than I think I was with other pistols. The rangemaster thought it might be the high sights. Regardless, I really want the M&P to be "the one" because I already have the SW FPC, so I want the pistol to use the same ammo and mags. Would also like to have a frame safety, and Glock doesn't offer that. BTW, the newer M&P's have a different kind of trigger safety.

The Smith and Wesson M&P is my preferred gun, for all purposes. I carry the Shield Plus with a RMRC every day inside the waistband, then I have a 4 inch compact M2.0 I keep around in case SHTF, fitted it with a RMR and threaded barrel. Lastly, there's the CORE Performance Center 5" I have on the bedside. Still keep my Glock 19 Gen 5 for anything else regardless as I've never had a malfunction in 800 rounds with it

As a Glock fan, I would tell first time shooters to go M&P. Most people on balance shoot them better. Glocks take more training to get acceptable accuracy at speed.

I have the Sig M18, Sig P226, M&P 2.0 Compact, HK VP9, and HK P30. The one brand I will never buy is a Glock. With the Glock I'm getting much less for the money and it's not any more reliable than any of my current handguns. As a matter of fact the Sig P226 blows the Glocks away in terms of reliability and accuracy.

Both great shooters but M&P has better ergonomics/grip. The palmswells fit the hand better than the square Glock grips. I carried the M&P for 6 years at LA County Sheriff. Shot top of my class. Last year I switched agencies and carry a G19. I also got top shooter in the academy on the G19 with iron sights. Both are reliable but m&p still feels best. I just bought the m&p 2.0 optics ready full size with newer flat trigger for personal use.
