I bought a blued S&W Model 30-1 (J-frame) in .32 S&W Long. Great gun!

At this point, the Model 1903 already has legacy potential so it could be a good one to restore. Best wishes. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. If you haven't already, I hope you'll check out my other "Mick Mac" Tabletop Review videos on KZbin.

Sir, thank you so much for this video on a handgun that was used by law enforcement and civilian alike. I have the twin brother to your displayed S&W Model 1903. It is nickel plated and with the same barrel length (3") as yours. I was window shopping in a favorite local pawnshop when I stumbled upon it. I never had any ambition of getting any kind of .32, but the 100-dollar price tag and OTD price was the clincher. Always loved and collected the shooting irons of pre-war times, both wars. Workmanship, precise fitting of side plate to frame, and a chambered in a caliber (.32Long) that was common for law enforcement in the big cities of the North-East. What the cops carried influenced many civilians into choosing the same make and model for home defense and travel abroad. The .32 long is one flat-shooting round using the standard factory loading. The NYPD carried the Colt New Police Revolver, chambered in .32 Long from 1895 unto post 1907 before the New Police was traded out for the Colt Police Positive in .32 Long and .38 S&W. The Police Positive replaced the aging New Police that Teddy Roosevelt, NYPD Commish, standardized in 1895. Some NYOD cops paced the .32 Police Positive, others had the .38 S&W Police Positive. Both Colt Models had the 4-inch barrel, fixed sights, and hard rubber grips. The initials of "NYPD" was inscribed on the backstrap of each Colt Model. I'm not sure if NYPD used the S&W Model 1903 Hand Ejector Revolver at that time. The .32 Long caught fire in law enforcement circles and going into the early 1900's many police departments across the land was using the S&W or the Colt in .32 Long Colt chambering. Thanks again for this well done and accurate video on the Model 1903 S&W .32 Revolver.

I appreciate your adding to this review of the S&W 1903. Good information. And nice price on your find. Did you know that the 1903 has gone up in value yet again this year? Average used value today is about $375, so you did extremely well at $100! Again, thanks for taking the time to comment. Don't forget to like, share and subscribe. Sir, I collect old Police Department issued revolvers that were traded in on new police revolvers and then released for sale by licensed FFL Dealers. Over the passing years I was able to acquire some great classic revolvers, used in police work. In the mid 1980's I was able to acquire a couple of Colt Police Positive Revolvers chambered in the old .38 S&W caliber. These were standard issue revolvers with big city PD's that used this compact, lightweight, 4-inch revolver. This was not the .38 Special chambering, these compact arms used the older .38S&W rounds. Considered adequately the standards of the early 1900's. Prior to the .38 S&W Colts, the .32 Long Colt New Police Revolver was standard the same big north-eastern PD's. I hope this little bit of data helps you understand why a .32 Long and .38S&W was standard chambering for police revolvers of that time period. A fascinating study that can remind shooters how effective a (supposed) light caliber can be when the shots are placed right.@@mickmacstabletopreviews8466

Nice review on this fine little revolver. This year I began collecting several S&W I Frames, Improved I Frames, and pre- Model 36 revolvers. It's been a satisfying hobby for me. They seem to be turning up quite regularly now and most that I've collected look as though they were kept in a nightstand and not shot very much.

I have just been watching a few different videos of this early style S&W revolvers and they/you just mention 32’s?🤷🏻‍♂️ Then I saw the chart at 11:37 , Can’t read it very well but it mentioned a 38 cal. It seems the only one I have seen like this IS a 38 that was handed down somewhere in the extended family from a great grandfather that had it at the turn of the century (1900) one…. What do you know about those?🤔
@mickmacstabletopreviews8466
@mickmacstabletopreviews8466 7 ай бұрын
The 38 on the chart is the S&W HE 1899 38. That was the first Smith & Wesson K-frame revolver-the .38 Military Model 1899 or .38 Hand Ejector Military & Police. Introduced in 1899 and still being made, the K-frame revolvers are now well into their second century. They remain very popular. More K-frames have been manufactured than all other Smith & Wesson revolvers combined. You can do a google or other search engine search of this model for further information. I believe there may have been over 6 million produced, so they're out there. But if you have one of these, it would be very cool indeed. Thanks for taking the time to comment. Very much appreciated. And thanks for watching. Don't forget to like, share and subscribe. If you haven't already, I hope you'll check out my other "Mick Mac" Tabletop Review videos on KZbin and Rumble.

I have the same one. Great knowledge based information. I Picked it up today for $300. Brought it home and fired a few rounds. Extremely accurate, almost intuitive. Would like more history. Was it exclusive to law enforcement? And can I track down the serial numbers?
@mickmacstabletopreviews8466
@mickmacstabletopreviews8466 3 жыл бұрын
Congratulations! If yours is indeed identical to mine, then you probably have all the information your going to find unless you want to invest in the "Production Tables in the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson" which would get you closer on the actual date. Again, if yours is nickel plated and has the blued ejector rod head like mine, the date would be between 1906 and 1907. (Note 04:30 on my review.) As for your question regarding "exclusive" to law enforcement, I doubt if that was the case especially for the nickel plated revolvers. But there's no doubt that the larger proportion of sales were probably law enforcement. Thanks for watching and thanks for the positive comment. Don't forget to like, share and subscribe. ❤❤was told the ol pearl handle in 3 inch 32 long is 1917 it must spent most of its time in a sock draw it's a good conversation piece to look at and then oil it up and back to the sock draw so it stays clean no shooting it is over 100 years old it keeps my socks feeling good ❤❤
