S&W Model 36 With 3 Inch Barrel

A 3 inch barrel nickel Smith & Wesson model 36 in 38 Special.

Yeah I used to carry a model 36 but it had the beautiful bluing and a 2" barrel. It was a gift from my dad after I graduated from navy boot camp. At the time I was a bit surprised and a bit disappointed because of the 5 shot and it was .38spl only. I remember opening the cylinder for the first time and thinking "hey they forgot a hole! Was it 'friday at the plant' or something?" 🤪 I didn't know anything about j frame revolvers and wasn't expecting that!

I`ve never felt under armed with a 5 shot 38.

I`m not fussy about finish. Blue, nickel, stainless. It`s all good. Not real fond of the matte or bead blast finishes they use today. Those look cheap and a little crummy.

Have one in blue,, my brother in law reloaded some .38 Special brass with target wadcutters...thing is crazy accurate,, or I was having a hell of a day

Very nice! I just picked up a blued 3 inch tapered barrel Chief's Special square butt! It's not a 36 as it was made in 1955 and is a 4 screw! I keep the original diamond magna on it. That's a nice one you got there. I love the fake pearl!

Newer to revolvers, how much do these usually run? Would Nickle vs blueish finish factor into the price?

A good way to check real world prices is to look on gunbroker.com and see what they have been selling for lately. Nickel vs Blued. Depends on the exact model. On S&Ws and Colts of this era the production was probably about 20% nickel and 80% blued. With a nickel gun bringing about 10% higher price than a blued one in the same condition. But there are exceptions. Some guns are extremely rare with factory nickel finish. (Beware of fakes) For example the S&W model 28 was made with a dull blue finish. But a run of 50 was special ordered with a brushed nickel finish by a police department and then the order was cancelled before they were delivered. Those 50 guns were sold commercially. The nickel model 28s being so rare might bring three or four times the price of a blue model 28.

I think they are Ajax grips. They are plastic, but look like Pearl as long as you don`t look too closely. :-)
