I have a Shield 9mm (first version) which is one of my carry guns, but this Shield Plus that you are reviewing here is, in my opinion, by far the best gun in its class on market. It is a real masterpiece. I was always a fan of S&W products, including their flashlights but this gun is a game changer.

I just bought this exact model, 4” ported barrel & slide, crimson trace RMR, fiber optic sites, I have not always been a fan of the M&P Shield but with this new model, I am sold, this is a double stack that is less than 1” wide and can still handle the pressures of 9mm, Smith & Wesson has hit this one out of the park, all the other micro 9’s will have to play catch up from here, this pistol is definitely a game changer. Great video!

Love the gun, very accurate easy to conceal. Replaced my Xmacro as my edc hate the crimson sight, So replaced it with a 407c. There is nothing better in my opinion.

Love the performance center Shield Plus. Just placed an order with my local gun dealer at $800 (Jacksonville, FL area) and I can't wait to get it. I got to shoot 13 rounds with my friend's standard Shield Plus and fell in love. I knew I had to get a longer slide version and the performance center Shield Plus will be my first optics ready gun. I still can't believe how tiny and slim it is while almost having the same capacity as my Glock 19. I'm sure some other manufacturers will push out a 15 round mag soon (maybe Hyve?!?!).

@@elite1047 when you buy more than 1 fire arm at a time the dealer is required to notify the ATF/ FBI. Now you and your wife each got a gun as separate transactions that's different than if you yourself buy two or more in one day. There is no waiting period in PA besides waiting up to 2 hours for a background check to come back.

My 4th shield plus. I love the extra texture up the slide for thumb placement. I did put a rad pro dot on mine though. With the ports it’s shoots great.

It took me about 6 months before I could get 13 rounds in the mag . She is definitely tight . The trigger is outstanding a little heavier than im used to but hopefully that will get better .

Very fine pistol! Reset looks great. For those of us with older eyes the fiber sights look very useful even without the CT red RMR. Really wanting a new Standard Shield Plus, however as a larger person it looks like it might be worth spending the extra dollars to get this one as it is about an inch longer with the rest of the gun about the same as the standard Shield Plus. Appreciate your insights and opinions on this performance center model. Thanks, sir!

It's not an RMR. It's a red dot sight. RMR is a proprietary name for the Trijicon Ruggedized Miniature Red-dot.

I just purchased the same setup (4 inch barrel, with the Crimson Trace Red Dot on it... for now), but my question to you is this.... does your 13 round mag, fully loaded, seat all the way in to the gun with the slide home? Mine doesn't! It will only go in the gun with the slide open, and then having to rack the slide to send home the 13th round. Hence... making it really a 12+1 in the pipe set up.

My wife has the 9mm M&P EZ but wants a Red Dot RMR we looked at this side one side by side and they are almost identical in size. So rather than cut the EZ I am just going to buy her this because it winds up costing the same after paying for them to cut the plate and the RMR. I'd rather have it factory installed. Fits perfectly. I remember when I called, the customer service rep had me put in a model number, but I don't remember it. Sorry.

I've been going back and forth between the top micro 9mm (no Glocks) contenders. Sig P365, Springfield Hellcat, Taurus GX4, Ruger Max-9 and the S&W Shield Plus. The more I watch all the reviews and comparisons and even with the extra cost it looks like the S&W may be the best choice, especially taking the optic ready version into account. @@GodGunsGills Thanks for the info. After a ton of deliberation and comparing, I actually went with the Hellcat OPS a while ago. I really like it and put a Holosun dot on it. I did get it on sale for a pretty good price but it wasn't really about the money, it was which one felt right for me. I've heard a lot of people complaining that (all of them) they are a bit "snappy", but of course they are, they are fairly small pistols firing 9 mm. It has become my primary EDC and was accurate right out of the box. I do like the Plus but it seemed like the Hellcat was a tad smaller and that's what I was interested in. Thanks again. @@notsosilentmajority1 Yes the hellcat is smaller! I carry the hellcat in my pocket when wearing sweats and etc. The shield plus is way more accurate than the hellcat though. I love both though! The hellcat is one of my favorite weapons and so is the shield. Can't go wrong with either, but definitely practice a lot with that hellcat. I don't use a red dot on mine

I have a gen one S&W Performance Center Shield 9mm(8+1) that i have 2500-3000+ rounds through it over the years. It has been very good to me. I have been carrying a stock CZ p-07(17+1) along witht the gen1 shield the past 2-3 years. I am now looking hard at either this shield plus performance center(13+1) to replace the CZ due to it being more compant and having greater capacity.(the Cz replaced a G4G19 for the starting line up) Now the other option i an seriously lookign at is the CANIK TP9SF-Elite Combat thats the collaberation with Salient Arms. its (17+1). I am torn between the shield plus and the ellite combat. As i will be putting a Holosun HE508T-V2-Elite on either option. I am familiar with the shield as mentioned above but have no first hand experince with the canik. The canik is coming in at about 7 bills right about now and the shield is around 9 at my LGS. The price is less of a concern that which one will be the most relaible option given i am lookiing at a primary carry gun i plan to trust my life too once i break it in and get a case of ammo though it to see how it fairs then i usally go from their.

You can't manually adjust the brightness and the lack of light rail isn't a problem olight make lights that attach to the trigger guard.

I was just playing around on the S&W configuration page, and see the Performance Center version is available with either 3.1" or 4" ported barrels, but that the "Optics Ready" version only comes with the 4" barrel. I've no experience with an RMR on a pistol, but I wouldn't have thought it's availability would logically be tied to barrel length.

Not sure why you would want wireless charging. Rechargeables never last as long as alkaline or lithium and your forced to get your weapon to a charger when it dies. Cheap battery swap (CR2032 if memory serves) on the fly is more like it especially when your out of state/ away from home. I've had the Performance Center shield 9mm 2.0 with the red dot for nearly two years and just replaced the battery 4 months ago (I was on the road when it died and changed it out in a parking lot). Super easy change, zero held true, and its always on and ready.

You probably should change the title, this gun is not RMR ready. You can attach a Trigicon RMR to this gun. But it will take modifications and or a dovetail mounting plate. The Crimson trace site that comes with this gun is based on the RMSC platform. It’s an OK sight. I’d like the auto brightness adjustment it works very well. But in the end it’s still just a cheap piece of Chinese plastic.

Got to play with one of these in a shop. The difference between stock to PC reset is night and day; almost as you release it. Gonna wait till they have 3" models with optic cut option (and hopefully manual safety.)

Correct, no mention. I didn’t purchase the firearm for the RMR. There are certainly much better options Smith and Wesson could’ve used. Either way, the firearm shoots great.
