ive had an sw9ve for many years and put several thousand rounds thru it , the trigger i got used to. have no issues at all, the gun is as reliable as my glocks and i mean that sincerely. in fact , when i found the recoil spring getting a little weak , i replaced it with a gen 3 glock 19 recoil spring assembly . fits and works perfectly. i have no problem trusting my life to this firearm

These guns run great, I used to guide atv rides in the hills of Kentucky and carried one of them in 40 caliber. Mine stayed in muddy water and dusty conditions and it never failed to fire and was dead nuts accurate, we have a lot of bears here and the 40 made more sense. I'm a Glock man but for the money these shoot just as well!

I LOVE the SD9VE factory trigger. I have made no modifications to my SD9VE, and yet I can shoot it faster and more accurately than any other pistol. The trigger is perfect for self defense/combat shooting. It feels like a light double action trigger. This gun is awesome.

This was my first handgun. Over 1000rnds through it without any failures. Trigger has long take up on purpose, as it's a Self Defense gun. I do recommend the Apex spring kit & trigger. Resolves all trigger issues, including shooting down & to the left. Great budget gun and absolutely reliable, regardless of ammo.

Will use M&P sites if you want to upgrade to night sites. Sigma mags took one more round in .40 and two in 9mm-the mags are interchangeable. Trigger will lighten up with use-when you clean it be sure to oil the transfer bar/frame contact point-that will smooth things out a lot. Also does nt hurt to polish the face of the striker. Good guns-reliable..I ve had eight of them.

Of all my firearms, Ruger LCP .380, Taurus PT111 Millenium G2 9mm, Walther CCP 9mm, and Hi Point JHP .45 ACP, this pistol is the only one I can easily use my thumb on the slide release lock. That is a welcome feature to me as I'm 70 and have manual dexterity issues due to many years of jobs using computers and factory work using my hands. I think one of it's best features is that trigger. It's a self-defense/combat trigger; not really for target or range shooting. You really have to want to make it go bang when you need it to. It's second best feature is its price; it's inexpensive (as you said) and easy to replace. (My perspective is I was loaded into an ambulance after a motorcycle wreck and the police took my pistol. I had a SD9 VE to carry until I got my carry pistol back.) It's a Glock 19 with a combat trigger and a really cool stainless on black color scheme. Thanks for the well done and informative video. I really enjoyed watching your combination of showing it on the bench and shooting it. That's something I like to watch more so than bench only or range only vids. Well done.

I bought an SD9VE last year and fell in love with it. I recently put an Apex trigger and spring kit in it and WOW. I have put several thousand rounds through it and have had NO issues with failure to feed or eject and I have thrown some nasty cheap ammo through it testing it. My friend who is a Glock only nut shot it at the range the other week and I almost had to pry it out of his hands. $330.00 out the door + $75.00 trigger and spring kit + some messaging of my own and it can't be beat. 16 +1 rounds of stress relief on a budget.

I've done plenty of research on the S&W SD9VE and I went and purchased one. I've fired 500 rounds of Hornady critical duties through it. (not the best for plinking but it's what I've got on hand) and no feed issues and no ejection issues. Upon the first cleaning I've only noticed very minimal wear, it is indeed also very similar to your Glock but for the price you just can't beat it. I would buy 10 more of these before I would buy a HiPoint or a Glock. Great job S&W!

I've owned the S&W SD-9 VE for over a year now and I love it. I can also highly recommend the APEX trigger mod. This pistol does everything I ask of it with no faults or complaints. I regularly take it to the range and there's nearly always someone who wants to try it and are impressed when they shoot it. Then even more impressed when they find out the price tag. If you can afford the M&P great, buy it. But, for my hard earned dollar the SD-9 VE is the best entry level pistol on sale today. FWIW I've owned dozens of pistols of various type and marques over the years. Keep up the great review work. Cheers

I must say that I bought one of these SD9HE's back in early 2012 new just as they came out for 365$. Its the it is the first time I've had a plastic pistol that just feels rite. Most of the times withh them plastic guns they usually have at least one thing does not feel rite and you usually have to spend a lot more money than you originally planned on spending by having to upgrade it so it has everything you could want to do with them. S&W has perfected everything when they designed the SD9's. The only thing that I had to get used to was the double brake trigger. But after a few mags or a sudden suprise you can't even tell it is what it is. Great job S&W I love it just as much as my 1911! Thanks guys

This was the first firearm I ever bought. Got a good deal on it, $250 with a holster and 2 magazines. I can say I have a few thousand rounds(4-5000 area) run through this pistol and so far I've had not one malfunction. I actually like a lot on this pistol. The grip feel, the slide serrations, the magazines, the overall ergonomics, and of course the price. On the bad side, the grip itself is a little slippery and the trigger is pretty mushy. It's also a bit snappy (9mm) despite it being pretty much a full size pistol. That said, I still maintain that I think this is a solid starter pistol for pretty much anyone interested in shooting. It has a lot of positives, only a few minor negatives. I think for the price you pay you get a pretty well made gun. Great review as always, Sootch.

Robert Sewell one question.. why on earth did y’all sacrifice round capacity and a cheaper tag for less rounds and more than likely a higher tag? Me personally with the amount of high capacity pistols out there these days I’d feel under armed carrying any revolver for a edc. Hell even my micros like Glock 43 and lcp2 hold more than most revolvers and can fit in a pocket with multiple mags in the other. I just don’t see a place for a revolver in with edc/self defense world nowadays. I mean I get it I really do but you leave yourself at such a high% chance of disadvantage everytime you leave the house with ol snubby

I bought this pistol a few weeks ago. I have about 60 or 70 rounds through it so far and it shoots very well. The trigger is not too bad, a little bit long, trigger pull weight I would say around 7 pounds. I prefer a slightly heavier trigger on a carry gun. Can't beat it for the price. Thanks alot sootch00 for the review. I trust your opinions more than anyone else and keep up the good work. Ronnie

I got this just because I wanted to inexpensively get into the 9mm field (from .40 and .38) and I heard good reviews about this one. I don't regret it, and I do compare it to a Block, just at less expense. The trigger is a tough pull, but it's getting better little by little. I have enough control of the shooting process to not let it be a negative to my range experience. This is something I would recomend.

My buddy just picked one up and he seems to like it. He is glock fan boy and owns several, says the S&W is very similar and performs well. I am more of a Tokarev kind of guy and own a few. My first purchase was a yugo m57, I still own it and is my absolute favorite every day carry and favorite handgun in general(slim, and not so small its uncomfortable to handle, along with being extremely accurate). Just love the little hotrod 7.62x25s and 9rnd mag is plenty for me. Payed 150$ for it many years back and see them go for 200$ nowadays,Wich is still best bang for buck imo, simple and very reliable. 🍻

I've had my sd9ve for almost 2 years. Love it. at least 750 rounds through it, probably more. no hiccups. accurate. Like these guys have stated, you get used to the trigger. Its my everyday carry weapon, even though it may be slightly big for that. I'm 6'4" tall so its a solid conceal carry gun for me. Love it so much I bought the S&W M&P 15 Sport. Another really solid weapon for not a lot money. Good review guys, thanks!

Went shooting for the first time a couple months ago. Had some great teachers who let me shoot a few of their guns to get a feel for something I might like. This gun was nice to me. It really fits the hand nice and the size to me looks and feels just like a Glock 19. So when I noticed that I was like "damn probably out of my price range." As a poor college student I was able to pick one up from my shop for $269.00. with taxes was still under $300.00. I also shot this gun well. I actually shot it better than some of the guns with nicer triggers. While this trigger is heavier, it is very consistent. Very happy with my first handgun purchase. and thanks Sootch for great videos. Have watched for a couple years now and they have helped a new shooter/gun owner learn a lot.

Great video. Purchased this weapon 2 months ago. First time at the range the slide failed to lock in open position after last round fired. Attempted 5 more times with same results. I change magazines and the same malfunction happened. I checked out different sites and found that many were experiencing the same results as I was. It was a defect in the magazines. Because weapon was brand new I contacted S&W and was told to mail back the magazines and then would send new ones back to me. This would take between 2 to 3 weeks. I asked if they would send the new ones out first and then I would return the defected ones. I explained that I purchased the weapon due to all the civil unrest, riots, property destruction, attacks and assaults in my city (Philadelphia), and wanted the weapon for 24/7 protection. I spoke to 4 different employees S&W over a 6 day period and all refused to assist me and send mags out first. I repeatedly asked how this weapon passed inspection before being shipped but it was to no avail. I then decided to attempt repair myself by disassembling both mags and stretching out the springs. Test fired weapon with both mags and it worked fine. Love the weapon but not the service I received from S&W. Hope this may help anyone experiencing the same problem.

You have to see it for their POV. People lie everyday, they had no guarantee that you’d send your mags back after receiving the new ones.

Thank you for sharing the tip about pulling the trigger on the take down, as this was a problem for me previously. The take down pins are so short, and don't protrude enough that I continually had the slide get stuck afterward. But by pulling the trigger it slides right off. I so appreciate that tip. I actually like the SD9 better than the SD9VE. And I actually prefer the factory trigger to the Apex trigger. The Apex trigger is too light in my opinion. After polishing a few of the pieces in the frame and slide, this trigger really feels great. Also a little lube on those internals gives it a very smooth feeling and not gritty at all. Great gun, with extreme reliability and unmatched value.

My mom decide to buy an SD9VE for her first semi-auto pistol a few weeks back. She's always been a revolver person. I was immediately impressed with the SD9VE. The ergos, the style, the overall size (G19 sized) and the price were all great. If I didn't already have an M&P9 I'd consider one of these. The trigger isn't the best and the takedown tabs are too small to be used quickly but other than that, it's a pistol I'd highly recommend.

I bought MY SW40VE with three ten round magazines during the Clinton gun ban period. Initially, it did not feed and eject properly. S & W replaced the barrel under warranty and no further problems. Reloads, factory, hardball, hollow points all work fine. Several years later, I found five new 14 round factory magazines at the flea market for $5.00 each. What a deal! And a nice upgrade. I love mine. Great fit, finish, and feel. I can hit rather well with mine. Daily carry in a Galco Fletch OWB leather holster. Holds close to body and covers easily with shirt.

The SD9-VE gets a lot of good reviews, but there is also a small percentage of bad reviews based on accuracy. I bought an SD9-VE for my son from Academy Sports and at 10 yards it shot all over the place. Currently it is back with Smith & Wesson. Upon close inspection, the polymer rails were warped to the left, and there was milling imperfections in the muzzle. There may be quality control issues with this firearm. Also, I reported these issues in a review on Academy Sport's website and they declined to post it as to somehow not meeting their editorial standards. Caveat emptor.

Lionquest Fitness I own one the distance is amazing when I practice hollow points I noticed it shoots a little to the right if its normal 9mm target rounds it doesnt have that pull to the right so If im using hollows i just aim a little bit to the left and done. Its not a big pull but for a shooter you will recganize it. Past ten yards it is not all over the place it is spot on. I distance shoot this all of the time.
