Hey bud, glad to see you upsized from the smallish (size large) Hightower to something more fitting your 6'3" frame, like this XXL (S6) Stumpy. This S-Works is a very nice bike and with a deep discount (probably 40-45% off MSRP), you got an amazing deal. However, I think you went too far with this high end model. Carbon frame with carbon handlebar and carbon wheels is a bad combo for the type of riding you're doing. With all those jumps, chunk, rock gardens, and fast bumpy descents, your hands and arms will fatigue quickly, making longer rides uncomfortable, which in no time will make you hate your new all-carbon bike. Unless you're an XC rider, the most carbon on one's MTB bike should be the frame. Everything else should be alloy to absorb as much of the trail chatter and vibrations as possible. But since you had this S-Works for about 3 months now, you've probably already figured this out. Oh, and another reason to stay away from those overpriced carbon and light weight components, ... the price of costly replacement parts after you crash. If I were you, I would have gotten an outgoing Santa Cruz Megatower C S and save about $2.5K (with tax). With more travel, 38mm fork, and the old school GX derailleur that doesn't need recharging, the Megatower would fit your riding style better. That $2.5K saved could have been applied towards a second, lesser bike, as a backup for more casual riding. Anyways, keep up the good videos and keep it safe. Take care!

@MarioV73 hah appreciate the input dude. As you mentioned these kinds of bikes are great for long miles and about 3 days a week that's what I'm doing, long singletrack rides. The weekends is when I get out to the gnarly stuff to make videos lol. So far I have 0 regrets with this bike, sizing and components have been nearly perfect to me. I charge my batteries... maybe once a month? Lol. I find that carbon bars flex beautifully for shock absorption. Big bike park days give me a lot less arm pump now. Maybe it's because I have more travel and a slacker bike but I think the carbon bar definitely helps with that. All in all, a great 1 mtb solution for me. My ideal setup, eventually, will be a big Enduro for the weekends and a fun hardtail as a daily driver!

I am about to buy the exact same built. How do think about the bike after a couple month. I ride XC trail in MOCO mostly but go to the shed and bike park for around 20% of my riding. Do you think this is the prefect one bike for all ?
@splooshmtb
@splooshmtb Ай бұрын
@raaaayli look I'm gonna be honest if you ride XC for 80% of the time, this bike is not going to feel great, it's such a long stable bike - its so good for that other 20% but definitely not for XC. I ride like 70% park and shed and 30% XC so it works for me but I know it's a hog on mellow singletrack. It'll work but you'll probably want a faster bike tbh.

Nailed the dentist energy in the intro! As a fellow tall rider, how are you getting along with the 170mm dropper? I love AXS but have a *lot* of post showing and feel like I have to optimize between pedaling or descending efficiency.
@splooshmtb
@splooshmtb 3 ай бұрын
Hah thanks dude! Funny you ask that, i just came off a 240mm on my Hightower! I'm 6'3 and all legs haha. But since this is such a big bike the 170 feels great and I really don't have much post out at all.

That opening dentist bit was brilliant and hilarious! As for the bike, you're going to absolutely shred! Curious how much you change the geo. I set it once and haven't changed it yet. Haven't hit a big park yet though either! Awesome bike and video. Looking forward to more. Enjoy!!

@nhc002 I've been riding the bike a lot now so I can confidently say I really enjoy the mullet. On fast flow or chunk I don't notice that back wheel at all, when going slow over rocks and roots I can notice the back wheel doesn't roll over as much, easily. That being said, jumping a mullet feels so freaking good!

Thanks for this video. Im sitting here thinking I want to sell mine. Its a 22 stumpy expert but I went to xo transmission, carbon handlebars and roval control wheels for pedaling days. Its still a lot of bike for me outside of Philly so I keep looking at the epics or maybe the regular stumpy. Keep in mind I have less than 30 miles on this bike.....lol. Seeing this model on sale is making me think about putting mine back to stock and selling while now having 2 sets of wheels, on transmission. Problem is my stumpy has been for sale the last few most and nothing! If anything, this video is telling me I do not need to upgrade my bike even though I want something with less travel. We shall see!

Best of luck with selling, the market is not in your favor for selling right now, unfortunately. Took me about a month to sell my Hightower, and had to drop the price more than expected but, such is the times when new bikes are heavily discounted.

@@splooshmtb how are you liking this one as your only bike? There’s one in my area and if I get what I want for mine, I could see myself getting the Sworks one. I’d see if my Delaware store can get one because of taxes lol. Did you say s6?! How tall are you? I’m on s5.
@splooshmtb

@kentao4 so far I'm loving it, I'm 6'3 and my previous bike was downsized (large Hightower) while this bike is slightly upsized. The s5's were fully sold out on their site, unfortunately, but this one really feels like it fits me well! It crushed the first park day and a lot of local trail rips so no complaints so far, except that it's too nice and I'm scared to push it hard still 😂
