Kecia has delivered a competent lecture about African Housing. Well done! Interest is associated with all forms of mortgages, and subsidies for the bottom tier of African societies in your lecture. I qualified as a chemical engineer and worked in Africa. Later in life, I inherited a small property portfolio, so switched my attention to housing and in particular housing finance. African societies have an informal economy and the participants have an irregular income. Interest is a major impediment to affordability and so subsidies are required. From First Principles, I have developed a novel form of housing finance free from interest. It is designed for a population with an irregular income. I have dubbed my work the "Table Mountain Housing Finance Model". In essence, it is interest free borrowings in early and late adult life - offset by interest free savings in middle life. The key requirement is integral borrowings + integral savings is approximately equal to zero over an adult lifespan. The present coronus virus pandemic will not cause a collapse because of unpayable interest arrears with the Table Mountain Housing Finance Model.
