Much as I love your videos, it is frustrating to see you participating in walking around the outside if the mud and widening the morass, rather than advocating staying on the single line and minimising the damage. You are going to get muddy anyway so just embrace it. The mud on Rakiura isn't really that bad. I did a short side trip onto the Northwest Circuit and it is much worse, and that had nothing on South Coast Track in Tasmania. Still, looking forward to more videos, thanks for sharing, it's been 10 years since I last tramped (dad responsibilities) but hope to be back in a few years with my daughter in tow, and content like this keeps me happy till then.

Did this in Feb 22 and your videos brought back so many memories, thank you. Have done 6 of 10 on my Great Walk bucket list. Northern Circuit is next.

I love that the trails are set out so well with the huts having room for many hikers. What a beautiful area.

These Great Walks in particular are very well thought out, and are catered to hikers from all over the world. There is usually a hut every 4-5 hours or so, which gives options for the hundreds (or thousands) of hikers that come to experience them every year. Some of the larger huts take a little getting used to (sharing common cooking areas with 40 or more other people can be anxiety-inducing) but many of the huts I've visited so far on the Great Walks are around the 25-30 bunk capacity which is much more manageable. Thanks for your comment as always Emma!

Thanks so much Sarah. What a fantastically restorative adventure this was, and so grateful to have all this on our (comparative) doorstep here in NZ. The mud was so much fun!

I think it could have been FAR worse, so I was grateful that it seemed to be a 'low-mud' week! 😂

That's not mud! Try the Northern Circuit. Nothing less than knee high gators and waterproof pants.

Haha I am sure! It certainly didn't compare even to some of the mud I saw on Te Araroa, but I think for the usual clientele of 'Great Walkers' this is serious stuff! The Northern Circuit is something I would LOVE to do having had this awesome experience!
