I had decided no more multiday hikes in New Zealand as I am going back to the States in about a month and a half and have already cleaned all my gear for the trip back. Watching this has me second guessing that desicion.

Oh no Tim! Yes, sorry about that! But remember this was back over Easter, so the weather is not likely to be as forgiving at the moment.. perhaps that will help you make a final decision :D

@@LongWhiteGypsy yeah, but I figure I should do the things I want to do while I have the chance. I am sure I will kick myself later if I do not attempt more hikes in New Zealand. Pretty sure I will not be back for a long time.

Thanks Perry! Yes, weather can get pretty wild in this kind of terrain. Nice to be able to show people this.

Lovely, thanks LWG. Having had to turn back on my first attempt at this track, I spent the next day walking the Soda Stream track. Beginning from the visitors centre, it is a super easy loop. I enjoyed it so much that, rather than walk down the road back to the visitors centre, I retraced my steps and enjoyed seeing the volcanoes under the late afternoon light.

Sorry that you had to turn back on this one, but sometimes it's better to stay safe! Yes, I have also done that track, although I think you mean the Silica Rapids? You're right though, a very easy grade and awesome bad-weather alternative!

Brings back memories of doing the crossing back in March. Definitely keen to do it again!

That would have been around the same time as I was doing this track, as this was over Easter!

Brings back memories of walking up the Devils staircase in late winter. Can’t remember which month on the way to walking up Mt Nqauruhoe . Only made it half way up. Due not having and climbing gear on me at the time.

Glad to have sparked the reminiscence for you Damien! Sounds like you had quite the adventure!

Use to go there lots when I was younger and living in Auckland. Pretty special place with lots of amazing views. While walking though old lava fields etc.

Yes, it's such a special place to hike! Such a different and unique environment. Where are you based Paul?

Thanks Gypsy, really lovely dream-like sequences. HESR. ... oh p.s. i'm guessing, but there is a good chance "anon anon" is a bot, that's a lot of zpack talk.

Thanks Paris, glad you enjoyed and hope you're keeping well (it's been a little while!). P.S. Re: Anon Anon, yes I already had my suspicions, have since reported the comments this user has left. Thanks for looking out for me!
