If you can not swallow all of the water in a body of water, you should have worn a PFD (Personal Flotation Device/Life Preserver). Spending a few years with the USCG as an inspector, and the Sail and Power Squadrons, trapping beavers, and sailing for decades on the Great Lakes, made me a believer. Otherwise great video, and thank you much. You guys are bad to the bone!

You are 100% correct. I failed to mention our pond is only 4.5 feet deep. In case of emergency I would just stand up but I know a person could drown in less water. Thanks for your comment and for watching

this is amazing. i have been trying to figure out how to clean my pond out and everyone i seen doing it has used a backhoe. i cant afford one, but i can sure as heck rig one of these up and pull it with my jeep. thank you so much for posting this!

It works great but it is a lot of work. Once the water clears up you can see instant results. Thanks for your comment

Really like this idea. Like one of the other comments, I can't afford to bring in an excavator to reach out and pull out the crud that has accumulated. I can probably put one of these together and walk it out into the pond and then hopefully pull it out with the same success you had. My pond is also only about 3-4 feet deep right now with all of the weeds and muck that has accumulated in it. If I can get all of the vegetation out, then I can use some natural bacteria tablets to help with the muck that remains.

Yeah there’s really no easy and cheap way to clean it out but the drag does work. Thanks for watching

Good morning sir ,just watched the video and I enjoyed it thanks,keep up the good work and great diy video's. I have a bunch of cattails to remove this week and moss from a couple of ponds think I will make me a tool like yours.

Perfect. This is exactly the idea I've been thinking of using but with dirt rakes attached to a bar. If I could weld I think your idea would be better. Thanks for the video.

Glad you liked the video. You could also try using a section of chain link fence; this works great at pulling the weeds out. We opted to go for the heavy duty bar to pull weeds and limbs out. Hopefully that works for you!

Working on a farm, probably 2 acre pond been doing with that razor stick thing. Have a kayak, gator and can give a shot at building that. This really helped even 3 years later.

Wish I had trees around my pond for the rope to go around. Thanks for the idea

HI wow :) this is exactly what I need :) great video thanks for all the information :) I do have one question I do not have a tractor but I do have an ATV (with a winch). Do you think that it would be strong enough to pull the weeds as in your video? ( I was thinking of making mine not as wide as yours maybe 5 feet ). and out of curiosity what spacing did you use between the rebar?
@PleasantValleyOutdoors4 жыл бұрын
That should get the job done! I definitely think going with a shorter bar will make sure the winch can handle the load. Of course that all depends on how thick the weeds are in your pond; if they are thin and spread out you should have no problems pulling it in with the winch. If you've got solid mats of weeds then a much shorter bar will probably be needed. If you find that the bar and winch combo isn't working you can opt to go with a piece of chain link fence (again the size will depend); the chain link works pretty similarly to our bar method. I'll double check what our spacing is and will get back to you.

@@PleasantValleyOutdoors thanks for the reply :) I'm not sure I understand how to use the chain-link fence idea ... Sorry I'm a beginner and all this :-)
@PleasantValleyOutdoors4 жыл бұрын
@@nickn3048 No problem! Basically you would tie a rope onto a small section of chain link fence (you could tie it similarly to how we tied to our bar, connected at 2 points) and then drop the chain link fence in the water around the weeds you're wanting to clear out. The chain link won't dig into the bottom of the pond/lake like the bar and may be easier for your winch to pull in. We opted to use the heavy duty bar because of all the limbs and debris we wanted to clean off on the bottom but if you're just looking to clear out weeds the chain link option would give you a much lighter way of doing it.

You should just put a heavy duty winch on the back of the tractor with a few hundred feet of cable😊

You are correct. I make the same mistake when I’m treating my lawn. I fail to call them by their scientific name and I just call them weeds. Thanks for the correction
