I live in Pretoria. About 20 years ago mother, sister, myself and daugter were on the Shosoloza train trip to and from Scottburgh. Just behind the caravan park is/was a stopover for the train. You will sleep on the train and spend the day on the beach for a couple of days. Mom not with us anymore, but we have the nice memories. Very nostalgic.😊

You guys!!! I spent my high school holidays going to Scottburgh every July holiday. Last year in 2022 in August (MANY years later), we went down with my family and children and we stayed in the blue holiday flats on the right just before you drive into the security boom you went through. That whole area you drive past on the right, including the apartments you stayed in, used to belong to the War Services Union and was built as holiday flats for the families of soldiers who fought in World War 2. Those 2 big blocks of flats were actually named after 2 battles fought up in North Africa. Sadly the War Services Union had some mismanagement over the years and each of the units and flats were sold off and now only the first big block of flats still belongs to the Union. I have some very special childhood memories of that place and I’ll never forget those holidays in Scottburgh. ps - not sure if the noisy/meowing black cat is still there, but that cat was apparently abandoned by someone who was living there and then had to leave. They just left the cat behind 😢 Those superchubes used to work and were a big attraction years ago!! Wow. Fond memories!! 😊😊 God bless and safe travels.

Hi you two! I'm back with a brand new laptop. I watched the earlier couple of video's of the magnificent east coast areas, but the touch pad key board of the tablet became too much for my old fingers to comment. Your thumbs up made me feel very welcome. Nice blue colour too! As usual your drone view was something special, showing those rows upon rows of waves braking. Scottburgh is unique with its vegetation, especially those beautiful trees, both in and around town. The Crockworld is overwhelming, not only with crocodiles but also with those wonderful birds one seldom see so up close. I enjoyed the hornbills eating their fresh lunch. I would really love to have my morning cuppa in one of those crocodile mugs I saw in the shop. Sonia's background info on history etc. is again much appreciated. Thank you for not forgetting to take me along on this wonderful trip! I'll be on the side of the road for next one. Keep safe !

I'm so glad to see you back in the comment section, it's been a while! 🚙😁 While I thought you may still be travelling along, I also struggle to type on a tablet, so thought that might be the reason you're so quiet! Glad to hear you've got your full keyboard back again! I agree with you about the vegetation in this coastal town. We were quite astonished when we saw just how much of it there was along the coast and little did we know that we slept adjacent to what can almost be called a coastal forest. It was awesome! 🏡🌳 I've been in many shops, but the one at Crocworld had some pretty spectacular stuff. I also loved the mugs, but those wildlife T-shirts were incredible too! I just had to go and check out the crocs and other animals, it's always cool to see them, as long as they're well taken care of while in captivity and it seems to be the case there. Some of those crocs are humongous! 😳🐊 I know that you'll enjoy the rest of the KZN trip with us! Oh, and my thumb is much better, but still very blue!

I was so happy that your channel popped up on my feed. My parents, my twin & I holidayed at the caravan park in July from about 1976 for 7-years, first in a tent & then a caravan. Our site was on the 2nd tier in the front, & I awoke to the smell of eggs & bacon being cooked by Mom, with the gorgeous sunny view greeting us most mornings & we often saw pods of dolphins swimming past; it was completely idyllic. The local dairy came past every morning with bottled milk, orange and guava juice for sale. We also had camping friends who holidayed next to us every year. It was such a privilege. My then husband & I stayed in self-catering apartments a few times with our 2-sons from 1987, & the little train was still running then & the route was from the main beach to the end of the caravan park & back, which all the children & parents equally loved. It was wonderful to see how well the caravan park has been maintained. The stretch of beach in front of the park is perfect for small children with little rock pools & it is also a lovely beach to walk on, which extends all the way to the main beach. Thank you for the wonderful walk down memory lane 🤗.

It was my father who made the mermaid on the boulder at Scottburgh caravan park beach. She was born 1989. He touched her up every December until 1998 when we last came there. We went to the Cape during the last few years from 1993 some years. He is a bronze sculptor but he did that just for the love of nature. It’s my favourite most cherished artwork of his although it didn’t cost anything. No one can buy it . Or take it. It belongs to mother earth. The most beautiful time to see it is during and after sunrise and sunset and when the tide comes in. It starts by washing over the top, then the chest, the tummy and eventually you have to leave because she will be submerged and the water will be to deep . That is why she erodes . From the tides. But she’s still there after he last chiselled in 1998. Only the one nipple is dragging down a bit. My father is 77 now. We are going this December again. He’s going to see her again. He has walking problems due to a condition he has since I was little. And now he’s old but I’ll get him there somehow…

Hi Guys, thanks for shaking the memory bank. Sorry to hear about your injured thumb Curtis. Good advise, if it keeps on being very painful, that throbbing pain, then there is only one cure. Heat up a needle over a flame, wipe the sharp end clean and slowly push it through the nail. This will get rid of the blood under the nail , but gives instant relief. A friend of mine had the same thing a few weeks ago and it worked straight away. All the best and safe travels. Frans

Thank you! I was lucky, I think. 😁👍🏻 The pain subsided very quickly and I didn't have to resort to extreme measures. I'm all too familiar with that procedure you described, I've done it to a good few toe and finger nails over the years.😨 It relieves the pressure immediately. Good advice!

A few points I'd like to add as I live in Scottburgh. It was once known as the jewel of the south coast but has been sadly neglected. The water slide you showed has not been operational for years as it's declared unsafe. The miniature railway was washed away by high tidal waves and although the municipality was awarded enough money to cover all the damage done that year they refused to allow the little railway to be rebuilt. The pool was not empty because it's winter! It has been empty for over two years with promises from the beach manager that it will be filled by July, however she did not say of which year. A project called Spay a Stray organised the sterilization of over 1000 feral and stray cats in and about Scottburgh. Partially funded by public donations. There are many other places of interest that you unfortunately missed. Thank you for an interesting and entertaining series

Hi guys the drive in the dark love it sea side holiday vibe with fish and chips can't beat it accommodation 100m from beach wow amazing views everything seems quite but as you said it is winter views of the old railway bridge and river mouth amazing the best caravan park I've seen seen on the beach millionaire views nature what more could you ask for the park benches and the seagulls had a English vibe the views are mind blowing the history was very interesting first time I've heard of Byrne settlers lots of sugar cane equals cane spirit witch i was rather partial to lol the main street looks busy and the suburbs wow what luck people to live there ! Who couldn't be impressed w with the Croc world that womble bird was a bit aggressive. I was lucky to see a Fish Eagle swoop and pick up a fish on a visit to Kruger Park brings back memories of my time in South Africa shame you couldn't get closer to the light house. Butt great to see people keeping the beach clean and to think i thought the waves were impressive only to hear they are 10m high in a few weeks all in all i was very impressed by Scottburgh 5 stars from me thanks for taking me along cheerio till the next one

I'm telling you, the fish-and-chips were just what the doctor ordered that evening. It was absolutely delicious! 🐠🍟 I was never partial to cane spirit myself, but I had a few friends who could knock back a few. 🤣 That caravan park was seriously next-level and went on forever! How lucky were you to see a Fish Eagle actually catch a fish! 😱🦅 I'd give anything to see that, it's my ultimate favourite bird and my heart skips a beat when it cries. I could literally listen to that all day long! The lighthouse was just too far away to walk to, at least we got a glimpse of the top of it. 🎑 Those folks cleaning up the beach are really inspirational, it was great to see! 👌

Lekker by die see! I bet you were glad to reach your destination after such a long day. Love that old rail bridge. I think the water slides only operate in the season. Beautiful caravan park. I would camp here given half a chance. Wonder what those lovely spreading trees are. These pink sand beaches are unique. I must say, crocodile is NOT my favourite animal. But each to his own, I just find them bit creepy. I am okay with snakes and I love lukkewaan. They are beautiful, and so ancient looking. Dont like seeing these animals in captivity, in such a tiny little space! Not a zoo fan. Love the pink tree tunnel, so pretty. Pity you couldnt get closer to the light house, that would have been amazing. Thank you for a really beautiful tour.

The lighthouse was just too far, I'm never keen on leaving Sonia alone for too long. 🤷🏻♂️🎑 I'm also not overjoyed about animal parks, but they do have a place, as long as they care for the animals properly and they seem to be doing so at Crocworld. I enjoy all kinds of wildlife, certain ones must just stay a little further away from me than others! 😳🐊 If it weren't for places like these, the injured Fish Eagle would've most likely perished in the wild a long time ago. What a magnificent bird that is! 😍🦅 The caravan park still lingers in our minds, it's really a beautiful facility in this pretty coastal town. Thank you for joining us in Scottburgh! 🚙😁

@@MP-uw1qc yes they took away the giant staircase at the camp beach. I used to climb them on all fours as a child so big they were. Each step was about half a meter high and two meters in length. And it went so high…It was quite beautiful . They said a child fell badly there later years so they took it away. And they stopped the mini toy train too. What was the Whimpy is a mug and bean now. And there is a coffee shop on the beach now called Scotties and a play area for kids where the hall used to be. My heart will always be there. My father made the mermaid carved on the boulder. 1989. December. He touched her up for four years afterwards then left her. She is 34 years old now.

Just something interesting about a video I watched about alligators /crocodiles, in America when it's winter and the lake or river freezes over the crocodiles/alligators will stay under the frozen lake or river and just make holes so that they can stick their snouts out to breath, sometimes they will move around under the ice to another area and do the same just make a hole for them to breathe. Very fascinating
