S1 - Ep 433 - Satara Rest Camp!

Our visit to Satara Rest Camp in Kruger National Park was a delightful adventure. The journey from Balule Satellite Camp to Satara was filled with excitement as we encountered an abundance of wildlife along the scenic S39 route, taking a pause at Ratel Pan and the Ratel Pan Bird Hide. Upon reaching Satara, we were surprised to find the entrance gate had been moved from its original position. A bustling atmosphere could be felt in camp and we excitedly and successfully pitched our tent and embarked on another thrilling game drive. Returning to camp, we savoured a delightful evening meal. Our good fortune continued when an African wildcat paid us a surprise visit before bedtime. Peet Hi again ,just an lnterestlng elephant observation from early Voetspore experditions, that elepha nts are also left or righ tusk users.Grass are held by the trunk and broken or cut off with the tusk ,hence the deep groves in the left or right tusk.Since then ,this is the first thing I alwaise look for on photos or vidios.Love youre travel vidios.Doen so voort!!

Piet Grobler by right with Kruger and Stevenson-Hamilton the three founders of the "Wildtuin". Grobler was born in Boekenhoutfontein, the farm of Pres Kruger near Rustenburg. He was a Rebel in 1914 and was elected as minister in 1924 when Genl Hertzog became prime-minister

Hi Curtis & Sonja, enjoying the trips tremendously, have to say I close my 👁️👁️ when the animals are feeding, feel a need to jump out & chase the predators😅. I know it's nature but can't help myself😊. Have an extreme fear of big cats . Thank you for sharing 🚙🚙🚙🚙

Sonia the game spotter was weer eens ‘spot on’ in deze episode 🤩 Geweldig is haar oog voor & duidelijk hoorbare connectie met de dieren en haar voorspellende gave wanneer we wat gaan zien (de Buffalo, at your service madame 😂). En zij verbinden zich ook duidelijk met haar, zoals ze aandachtig terug kijken. Checking out the situation, zo lijkt het, en dan zien dat alles oké is met jou aan haar zijde 😁 Werkelijk schattig de vele olifanten baby’s! Die grote olifant die met zijn slurf meerdere keren lekker in zijn eigen oren peuterde is erg grappig 🐘🐘🐘. De rustende giraffe 🦒 heeft een opvallend mooie ‘tekening’ qua vorming van zijn ‘vel vlekken’. Geen wonder dat hij bleef poseren. Goedgegun, dat valt jullie op deze toer gelukkig ook toe en daarmee eveneens de vele volgers. Mijn filmpjes uit 2016 moet ik nog eens een keertje aan elkaar gaan plakken 😅. Dus ik blijf heerlijk met jullie mee genieten, met mijn Kruger (dieren) boekjes onder handbereik 🦛🦓🦏🐆🐅

Hi you two! What a wonderful trip again. Such abundance of everything. The 'zebra crossing' was quite a sight. I also do not remember seeing such an enormous herd of buffalo there. I also know that lizard as the Bloukop Koggelmander. Thank you for showing us so much, also picnic spots, hides and restaurant /shops and other interesting places. I'm ready for the next trip! Mananga Adventure Trail is a 48 km long 4x4 trail that you can book and drive in your own 4x4. You should read A South African Eden by James Stevenson-Hamilton. He was the first warden of Kruger in 1902 until he retired in 1946. It is an excellent read and very interesting as it is based on his diary that he kept most of his life until his death.

Wonderful to see Satara. The wooden deck at the restaurant must be a new feature. Looks good. Timbavati picnic spot has been there a long time. S100 is best drive to see lions. Had many sightings along that road. Best time to drive it is early winter morning. So fantastic to see that huge buffalo herd and also the zebra herd. Never seen the camping ground so empty. Thanks for the video. One small crit. Hope you don't mind. When filming side to side go much slower. Otherwise we see mostly a blur. We made that mistake with our first video in 2001 and learnt a lesson to do it slower in the years that followed. Oherwise fantastic to see all around Satara.

Shibotwana/ Xibotwana means small potjie Satara rest camp and surrounds have more of this Southern tree agama/ Blue headed agama or gecko or lizard the bright blue heads are males, which they use to impress females during the mating season

The park used to have beautiful big trees, and thanks to the elephants ofcourse not only the elephants, they are few and far between. 🙃🙈

They should emulate Pilanesberg's approach and regularly shift camps for tree planting. In this context, it is advisable to cultivate 'elephant-proof' trees such as the Crimetart.

It's not often you see those big "Serengeti sized" herds in Kruger. You guys really had a pretty exceptional Kruger trip (which I'm sure you're well aware of, having been there so often before.) I wonder if the dry conditions up North have led to migrations to where there's more grazing and water?

We're so grateful for everything we got to see and experience, it was magical. I would agree with you. I feel the fact that there was so little water in the North definitely contributed to smaller groups of animals, but then again we could've missed them too. 🤷🏻‍♂️ It's actually quite awe-inspring to be surrounded by large herds of buffalo and zebra like that, this was the first time that we've seen so many buffalo together and it was super cool that they were in and next to the road and not far away. 😍🐃🦓
