We decided it was time to visit The Company's Garden in Cape Town and we were excited to see it again after many years. As we approached the entrance, we were surrounded by magnificent, historic buildings. Walking along the tree-lined lane to reach the gardens is such a beautiful experience, and the garden itself with the stunning backdrop of Table Mountain is even more enchanting. Monuments, memorials, and statues are scattered throughout this amazing place, with birds and squirrels everywhere, creating a tranquil atmosphere. We ended this fantastic outing with a light lunch at the tea garden, which was the perfect finishing touch.

Just absolutely spectacular. I can say no more. Cape Town is truly one of the most beautiful cities in the world with an abundance of history thrown in. This is what one would refer to as a world-class African city 🤗. So proud to be a South African! 😏

Hi guys another awesome video right up my alley from the slave house to the children in native dress dancing loved all the history and my Jan Smuts connection the statue near the Parliament reminds me of the statue in particular square in London right next to the one of Churchill. The garden could be in London. but you see table Mountain in the background mind blowing lovely to listen to your memories of the garden and as always the banter and laughter. Great it's well used by both locals and tourists. Very enjoyable stroll the history of Cape Town. Thanks for taking me along cheerio till the next one

So beautiful! One forgets New York City began in the same fashion as Cape Town - as a Dutch town called "New Amsterdam" with a fort called "Fort Amsterdam". When the English took over, they changed the name to "New York". Luckily more of Cape Town's history survives to tell the story!

Absolutely beautiful. Thank you for sharing your experiences with us, of a garden that was established almost 400 years ago.

I used to take my kids to the gardens/museum at least once a month back in the 1980/90's. My youngest daughter was fascinated by the "rabbits in a tree" (squirrels) 😅.

Hi Curtis , Sonia, Dusty, and Sandy. Loved !! Loved, this video of the Gardens. I was there 35 odd years ago. Must have seen only a small part of it as I don't remember much. Glad to see this extensive view, which was so enjoyable. Thanks for a comprehensive view of the gardens . .

It was the South African Heavy Artillery and there are similar memorials in other cities. Cape Town, Pretoria, Johannesburg, Port Elizabeth, Durban and Kimberley. Six Guns were brought back from Europe.

The Dutch called Indonesia, " India" in the old days, so I think the "Indian" slaves came from the Dutch "India" - i.e. the place called "Indonesia" after 1947 or so (" The Indian Islands" - just like Polynesia is The Many Islands). Another word that has changed meanings over the year is "garden" (especially when you talk about Ancient Mesopotamia). The early meaning is closer to what we'd call a "market garden" today (so we still keep the old word in some sayings). There's a fair chance that the Company Garden started out as a veggie patch, rather than a flower bed, in other words. And right after I say that, you hit the VOC vegetable garden... Anyway, its life as a modern garden matters much more. Yes, so nice to see all the people walking there, or sitting down to think, and unwind, maybe. So full of life. Yes, I agree, it warms the heart to see it.

It's the easiest thing in the world to criticise and that's just not our vibe. We thought it was incredibly beautiful and we saw many workers hard at work keeping the garden as beautiful as it is. 🇿🇦🌳
