After taking a close look at the corks that were given to me. It was super easy to make my own. And for less than $5 a cork you can't beat it! Now you can launch your bait a mile away from the rocks.

Thanks.. I went to Surfside jetty's yesterday. 4 guys to the right of me had jetty corks. They caught pompano, Spanish , jack.. and I didn't catch anything but pin fish. They were getting there lines way out there with that rig. I went to ask the closest one to me what was the name of his rig but he didn't know the name of there was even a name. Next time I will for sure have this in my arsenal. Thanks again

The Vietnamese have developed that cork over the years. It is unique to only those jetties. At Port Aransas, people use the same type of rig but use an empty lemon juice container filled with a little water ( for weight) instead. They call it the lemon rig. Anyway, Congrats on the catches! You have been tearing them up. Thanks for sharing!

Great video on how to build the jetty cork rig. Many questions on how to tie to main line/bait line will be great. You say watch other videos but we would like to see the whole set up start to finish if possible. Thanks for all the great videos, very informational to all jetty anglers.

Good video. Very doable. Highly suggest getting a pad to work on when at the kitchen table. Gun cleaning mat works great. Keeps from potentially denting or chipping the table and keeps our better halves happier! Keep up the good work.

There are commercial versions of a similar thing but I like this better because it has 2 floats to help keep the weight from sinking it too deep. You may want a 3 way swivel directly off the top so you don't need an extra one on your line but very cool. This brings me back to my early days of going to jetties and docks and learning what the locals do and replicating it with great success. Very cool bud... I love it

The downside to this setup is you can't control the depth of fishing very easily. It would be easier to use a weighted cork like he is showing with a bead on top and a cork stopper up the mainline that can be moved according to the depth you want to fish at. Then below the cork use a heavier egg sinker with a bead BELOW it, and tie the main line to your leader. That way you're not having to fool with a three-way swivel or extra line to cast. The mainline runs through the weighted cork and the bait gets taken down to the desired depth (set by the stopper on the mainline) by the egg sinker. It will also cast a mile too because when reeled up there is no extra line hanging around.

Nazzz, the electric tape very important, because cork may break when hit to the rock, prevent line stuck in the joint. The quay you say it "work ok" meaning you didn't use it long enough.

The tape is to reduce the drag on the jetty cork where the ball and the cork meet. I know a guy that uses heat shirk instead of tape.

For those of you who were unable to make them you can also buy weighted corks at Fishing Tackle Unlimited or Academy put his design seems to be a lot more identifiable as far as the cork length it would be a lot easier to see great stuff also it's kind of funny when you're older Jetties you try to throw out as far as you can but when you're in a boat you want to throw as close to the Rocks as possible but it's all good them fish running series all day long up and down the Jetties whatever the tide brings I seen the video that got me here that's a nice box of trout on any day

Make it a popping cork by having the swivel on both top and bottom run everything through and leave some space for the corks to move up and down to hit the beads id also use multiple larger beads can pick up like 200lb steel wire lead so its not kinked so easily

So in effect is this just a float with casting weight, with the trace (bait) coming off the top of the float. (In Oz we at times use floats but have never encountered a Jetty Float for casting distance?!)🎣🇦🇺🐟

Kayaklure85 that's what I would like to know , how do you you put a 7ft leader on that with the main line ? #MDLR
@sloshyjoe6 жыл бұрын
I think im going to use a three way swivel kinda like a lemon rig. Google "lemon rig fishing" so youll use 3.5 feet on the floater and 3.5 on the hook so youll be casting 2x 3.5 line when it hits the water itll sink 7foot. Also notice he used a split shot to weigh down the shrimp.
@MDLRFishing6 жыл бұрын
I briefly explain how to rig this setup in my previous video. Tie a 3 way swivel to the main line. Tie a 12 to 20” line to the cork. Then tie your leader line and add a split shot to it. Your leader line can be any length as long as you can cast it. My leader line was approximately 7 foot. So in total I had my shrimp down at a depth of 8 feet. That’s where the trout were feeding hard.

How long does the electrical tape hold up to the salt water and being banged against the jetty rocks? I'm thinking maybe a section of shrink tubing might work well instead of the tape. Don't know if shrink tubing comes in colors other than black though, but may take the abuse better. Just thinking outloud here. :) The "jetty cork" (big friggin' bobber :) ) reminds me of the rigs (on just a smaller scale) I've seen the catfishing folks around here using.

@MDLRFishing6 жыл бұрын
I saw the outcast corks, they didn’t have enough weight on them. The less weight means you have to whip your line out there for the distance. That translates to my shrimp being ripped off during the cast. This cork let’s me fling my line out there without all the force. Different strokes for different folks. Whatever works as long as we all catch fish that’s all that matters.
