Back in the 60's, I used fish the lighthouse jetty. Monster reds and spec around the point, but hard to land because of the rocks. Used a 4" Rapala with an oz on the nose. Turquoise Mirror lures were bad ass too. The Mirror lures tended to attract the big jacks which got expensive.

I bet if you put a popping cork above that gulp it would have been non stop trout. I watch RedfishRoss also, he is down in Corpus, he slays Specks and Reds with popping cork.

Congrats on the catch. Being ret'd, I also steer clear of the weekend kayak fishing, and do it during the week....while others are at work :) . Usually only 2-3 people on the entire 400+ acre reservoir I fish.

Fish pierce marsh if you’re in a kayak. If not, go to Seawolf Park; Galveston Island State Park; Galveston jetties or the Freeport jetties.

Reds will hit anything that moves. I personally like bumping Buggs Fishing Lures (curl tail buggs) off the bottom and swimming Hoggies swimming jacks along the bank.

For attaching my leaders I use a Uni to Uni or Blood knott. For tieing my lures on I use a Trilene knott.

Yes I was on the channel side but there were no wakes. The ships in the background were all anchored. The only wakes came from small boats.

Not deep at all. About 6’ average depth. The boat cut is >30’. Launch right by the jetty.

Just look up the north jetty on google maps. It’s right off of 16th street. The jetty can be hit or miss but when they’re biting it’s so worth it!

Most of your 5lb plus trout are caught within 50 feet from the rocks, try a fly next time & you will be amazed !

You should learn how to properly release a fish, especially a trout which typically need a little resuscitation

Could just be me but I always consider the fish I catch and try to get them back in the water fast. Depending on the fight I will do all I can to revive them so they have a good chance at surviving.
