Well let's try to analize this in depth, using the translated lyrics aswell the imagery of the video, in this video expect alot of symbolism. First scene She is stopped in her tracks as her eyes catches something (guitar intro),she takes a step back and you see her start pondering. Second scene She retreats from the light into the darkness (as she sings"Do you know that feeling that your dream doesn't come true .Do you sometimes fear that it will be like that forever") indicating that her mood changes into melancholy,sadness Third scene Her head resting in her boyfriend's lap , looking a bit sad and apathic,with tears around the corner. Notice that the boyfriend isn't really touching her in an effort of wiping the tears from her face (maybe a hint on the fact he isn't really there, maybe merely the spectre of him) , while she sings"Because it's been raining all days and I can't see a hand infront of me" which embellish the notion he isn't really there and that she is in a depressed stage for days, hence the Rain,greyness Scene 4 Again notice that she is the only person portraited clear and in focus,as she sits at the dining table and the people infront of her are smudged and out of focus,if you watch it with intent, you'll notice that the woman on the left resembles her and the person on the right could be her boyfriend(so this could be interactive memory) the song says"You and I together, as it should be" there is her look of anguish before she leaves the scene Scene5 She is in the kitchen clearing out the fridge in an angrily fashion,before taking refuge in the fridge (i.m.o.), maybe this is the symbolism for wanting to be cold (indifferent) to her own emotions rather than being consumed by them constantly (Side Note food has the quality to be comforting in emotional times) throwing them out could be the symbolism for wanting to undergo the hurt raw and unfiltered, which contradicts that first symbolism of wanting to be indifferent,but hey that is the chaos these moments of loss accompanies. During this scene you are listening to the prechorus, building up to the chorus Scene 6 Sitting on the back of her boyfriend's motorbike holding on to him, there is a detail that makes you wonder if she is really there,her boyfriend is wearing a helmet and she doesn't,so this could be her wish after the fact,expressing her regret she wasn't there at this particular moment in time We hear her sing"Oohoooh aahaaah Here in the deep(aka abyss) I keep hearing your name (all the time)" notice that the volume went up,so this is a key moment in her ordeal Scene 7 Her boyfriend notice a moth above the tl-light and this is a big symbolism which will become clear in scene 9, this scene 7 is a prelude to that one, it is a little scene but an an important one only accompanied by"Oohoooh aahaaah" Scene 8 Shows us the reason why scene 6 could be seen as a regretful wishing,she and her boyfriend have a row,a tiff about something,hence why she isn't really on her boyfriend's motorbike , this notion gets strengthened by the lyrics"Oh my love what am I supposed to do now I sit deep and I don't want to let you go" which was symbolized in scene 6 by holding on to him Scene 9 Her memory takes her a little bit further back in time, the time she got a tattoo of.....no not a butterfly,but of a death moth, which symbolizes our mortality or perhaps the mortality of our relationships,the fact that he sees the moth in scene 7 and only him, could be interpretated as a premonition,that something will happen to him and only him. Being it a death moth and his mortality at stake gives us a hint it involves a fatality ,furthermore the song suggest at this point she is waiting in vain on his return"I take refuge underneath the table and I hope you'll find me ,I'm waiting alle evening,oh I resemble a child" The song provides a crossover to scene 10 with the lyrics"I clench my teeth and I know you do too"it hints a clinching your teeth while getting a tattoo,but you can Imagine that in row you're both stubborn and not willing to give in(which would be a reference to scene 8) but it enters scene 10 as a regret that both you did clench your teeth Scene 10 Her laying in outdoor pool surrounded by dead leaves hinting on the stage of the natural cyclus(the fall/autum)but predomantly about death, which could symbolize the aftermath of the relationship or most likely his death, which brings her into the emotional uncertainty of murky waters(yup symbol again) the effect a loss has on your life. But at certain point you'll get enough of this turmoil as the lyrics hint on that"But God what else could I do,but now it is enough" Scene 11 That last sentence of the song in scene 10 symbolizes a turning point in this process of grieving,we get a glimps of what really went down instead of scene 6 being her regretful wishing,we see him leaving alone not with her on the back of his motorbike her standing in the window watching him as he drives off into the night,what further happens is open to interpretation,did he have a deadly crash or not? But you get a sense she tries to get a grip on things, there is a feeling of acceptance of reality in this moment the chorus sets in,but now it has a totally different meaning to it,still feeling the loss but the loss has been given a place,a hurdle has been taken Scene 12 underlines this notion,we see her and her arm starts to glow and it gets brighter and brighter, which could be a symbol of internalizing her struggle with her emotions, getting a handle on them and making a part of her being,so no cold indifferent attitude anymore but accepting them for what they are,a part of her ,giving her the opportunity to grow past her loss ,she isn't that lost anymore, the last phrase of the chorus "Oh my love what am I supposed to do now,I sit deep and I don't want to let you go"gives a total different vibe than before,do I dare to say that the volume of this chorus is slightly lesser? Split scene 13 We see him now really driving alone into the night, there is total acceptance of the reality Scene 14 We see him sitting on the back of a scooter slowly putting his head to rest on the shoulder of the driver of that scooter,we don't get a glimpse of who that would be, somehow it is a bit reminiscing of the tale of Anubis as guide over the river Styx ,guiding souls to the afterworld or according to the Pirates of the Caribbean the function of the Flying Dutchman in their tale But there is still a bit of resistance ,an echo of denial where the bridge of the song has it's function"No no,no nooo Don't want to let you gooooo" but it isn't that prevalent anymore Scene 15 We see an aberration of light walking slowly through (what we presume to be) her house, this could be a symbol with a double meaning,on the one side it could be her as she is in the process of fully owning her experiences, which makes her radiate again to the ful extent of her being or on the other side it could be interpretated as the spectre of him as the memories about him still comes back in ful force, like suddenly smelling his/her scent making memories rushing in coming to haunt you for a certain time Scene 16 We are taken back to the start of our journey,back at the first scene,we get to see what triggered this journey and we notice that it is a motorbike (his or resembling his) so this could actually mean that the storyline is about the death of her boyfriend, which could be open to discussion as we not have witnessed the actual crash, furthermore we see her walk away as if she is going on with life Scene 17 We see her as the light within her fades away,as symbolism for the end of the mourning period of her loss, sometimes by some defined as "le petite mort" the little death, that moment that our consciousness gets on with life and the memories fade because of other new memories.the soft reprisal of the chorus supports this notion So we have gone through the loss ,the hurt,the mental struggle,the ground dropping beneath your feet,the denial, the anger, the acceptance ,the embrace of reality,the growth/lessons of the mourning process in this song which was a poetic way for us to relate to

The story behind the song and video is that when she was younger, a boyfriend of hers was killed in a car accident, prompting a suicide attempt. She was institutionalized after this due to her latent depression and schizophrenia. She is now (like her 7 years later) a huge advocate for mental health care. Many of Stien's songs deal with mental illness and sadness, but usually in a way that gives some hope. The moth tattoo is hers true hers tattoo and it is supposed to be a symbol of hers because moths always chase the light or try to find her even in the dark. So this video shows that story of her fighting with her boyfriend, he goes off and dies in an accident and the light is supposed to represent him, and she's the moth. I think the song is kind of a tribute to him.

Nobody in The Netherlands ever heard about this lady. She was never on the radio or wherever. But, we have people like Emma Heesters, Tino Martin, and Davina Michelle. Among others. This lady had not earned the right to represent the Dutch at all. It's false politics... she is a nobody and has had no hits at all ever before. I would like to have seen Davina Michelle in her place.

This is just wrong! I don't care that she doesn't have any hits. Everybody who sent in songs deserves the right to represent our country. The most important thing is, is the song and if she can perform live. And I love it. Now tge staging and her live vocals.
