I write and read family drama and romance, and find it hard to relate to mythical archetypes like Mage, Maiden, Snow Queen, etc. They fit well in fantasy, but that's not what I'm into. I've followed your work for years and regularly reference your tutorials. However, the series on archetypes last year didn't resonate with me. It would be great to have content that uses straightforward language and focuses on real-life characters and situations. It seems everyone is into fantasy nowadays, kind of leaves me feeling like the oddball.

Even though the symbolic language of archetypes often evokes the fantasy genre, these archetypes show up in all stories of all types, just as they also show up in all of our personal lives. Almost all of the examples I use in all of my archetypal material are from genres other fantasy. However, it's always important to find models and systems that work for you. As George E. P. Box reportedly said, "All models are wrong, but some are useful." It's all about finding those that are useful for you.

So, would recommend taking this course, or just buying your book? And why the one over the other?

If you're interested in both, I recommend starting with the book Writing Archetypal Character Arcs: kmweilandstore.com/b/UTlM3. It lays the foundation and goes into much more depth about many more aspects of archetypal character arcs. The course focuses specifically on shadow archetypes and how they create inner conflict for the characters.
