You just demonstrated your self reliance! And I might add that I think you have gone beyond “code” and your work looks top notch. I wouldn’t bother to revisit it. If I understand correctly you are responsible for the lines after that last post? And that in turn helps explain why it isn’t buried by you?

Thanks for the comment. You are probably right, as I look at it now it does seem pretty bullet proof. I'm not in a rush to change anything out.

I always wondered why it is that electrical lines are not underground, I am guessing it might be an economical factor? In the South it would be protected from hurricanes, in the North from winter vortex (collapsing)! But then again we would not enjoy the great video of preparing for a storm! Just love it, thinking outside the box! As always- well done, thank you!

We are a compilation of our unique experiences, this was the bringing together of the sailor and builder. Thanks as always for a great comment my friend.

Hey Alan - great idea using the stays, fortunate you had them. You could also check (as a temporary fix) a dog run cable at the pet store. They come with the thimbles and clamps. Hate to "Jury Rig" things, but, it might be considered for an emergency!! I've witnessed what happens when a power Stand-off fails - roofs, wall studs, siding, etc... Tons of work.. Another young sailor, Sam Holmes (you tube), is setting up to cross the Atlantic in May. He is fixing his shop up right now, as you are, trying to get his sailboat ready for the event. Would be a great "You Tube" if you guys did a joint "How To" video!!

Thanks for another great comment. If you can convince Sam to do a collaboration I'll be happy to do a joint video. Certainly an idea worth pursuing. I feel that I don't know him well enough to suggest it though.

@@RoversRest I sent Sam a note - hope he responds. He's down in the Carolina's. Might be a nice break for you and Mrs Rover to go South. I don't think the Border is open yet but that should change soon:-)

Great video Alan. Nice to see your resourcefulness in securing the electrical mast. On another topic, you should have some birdfeeders up around the workshop. It would be nice to see them around the homestead.

Thanks for the comment my friend. Great idea concerning the bird feeders. I also plan to build some bird houses for swallows before Spring

Great video again. As others i was wondering, why you dont bury your cables in Canada. :) You have commented on that elsewhere. Another isue i was wondering about is, that you secure your wire on the roff in one direction. If the winds come perpendicular to your wire, don't you think there is a risk that the pole on the roof will get dragged to the side? Actually the tension in the system, will increase the risk of that to happen - i guess? Hope you understand my question. :)

Most of the concern deals with an inline pull, however, under an extreme condition we could have a failure 90* from the run of the wires. But this kind of event would devastate the grid throughout the area I suspect and there would be little that we could do under those circumstances regardless. Here's hoping that we don't have to deal with such an event.

Why isn't your supply buried especially when you get weather like you do during winter? ( from the UK)

I will bury the cable from the shop to the house when we build it this summer. The reason that you see mostly (about 99%) overhead wires in this part of the country is due to the significant cost of the armored cable used in underground service. Personally I prefer the look of structures without overhead wires but we are working within our means. Thanks for the comment
