I think the purring is an indication of content Karin. African rangers imitate it when they approach a group of wild gorillas to let them know they are friendly.

Another amazing similarity between my beloved gorillas and rabbits.Karin, rabbits when completely content and feeling safe...their teeth vibrate and it sounds like a cat purring!!!!The other night I dreamt 2 gorillas,1 male& 1 female lived with me& I was taking their photos.Maybe I have had Monta& Rola on my heart.🎃🦍🦍🎃🍁🍃🍂😉

斉藤ぽん太さん、リンクありがとうございます。以前この京都市動物園の動画は視聴していましたが、改めて興味深く見ました。ゴリラの声はこんなに幅広く意味も違うんだな、と感慨深かったです。動画中の4分29秒あたりのモモタロウの出した音が、モンタのよく出す音と似てるかな、と思いましたが、何か違います。モモタロのはポジティブな反応のようにきこえ、モンタのは何か訴えているように聞こえます。猫の喉鳴らしについてのWikiを読んでいたら(ちがう種ですが)もしかしたら飼育員さんに訴えてる可能性が高い気がしてきました。猫が飼い主に催促する際に出す喉鳴らし、soliciting purr (催促型喉鳴らし？)が、モンタのと近いような気がします。この時も、まだ扉が開かないことへの主張だったのかな🤔 C型肝炎の実験に使われていたチンパンジー達の治療のクラウドファンディングが今行われているんですね。微力ながら参加したいのですが、リンク教えてもらってもいいですか？

I’ve noticed by watching these different videos of different gorillas in zoos that if we want to preserve these animals that we as people should demand that they have the best of everything… I’ve noticed that some of these beautiful animals (gorillas) have bad teeth they need veterinarian dentist to at least once a year should check and clean their teeth monta needs he’s done… I also feel monta should have a companion he shows signs of loneliness … gorillas are very social animals… I’m in the United States there isn’t much I can do for the gorillas in other countries but I did email Japan waza Association about monta but haven’t heard anything back from them which they probably want because I’m in the United States … I can only pray that the citizens from Japan will be as concerned for these animals as I am… ❤❤❤ oh and Karin I watched a documentary about lowland gorillas in the wild and they said that when a gorilla purrs that is sign of contentment or being satisfied but really who knows… 😊

I agree with you 100%. People in Japan should solve this issue of animal welfare in Japanese zoos. But I appreciate those of you who live outside the country to take actions to improve the ways they treat animals. I’m not sure if JAZA will ever reply you, it’s so obvious that this association isn’t doing its job. I am approaching directly to the zoo but its response is slow and often vague. More visitors in Japan need to be aware of the issue. Thank you achebert50 for your very educational and informative comment.😊🙏🦍✨

@@ZoosForConservation your so welcome I’ve been studying and researching this type of gorillas for a couple of years but I’m no scientist I’m just a lay person…trying to understand what’s going on and also there habits but I truly believe that as people if we are going to keep this animals in zoos and national parks that we should demand the best care for them… like I said I live in the United States and it’s our tax dollars that go into most support the national parks and zoos here…
