I wanted to add to the talk about docs prescribing off label When i was 16 i was on Prozac. my psychiatrist prescribed me an additional antidepressant that not only conflicted with prozac, but wasnt approved for antidepressant use in minors. Why did he prescribe it? For sleep. Then when i told him i didnt take it because i was concerned, he said “i knew i shouldnt have told you it conflicted”. You know, something hes REQUIRED to tell me. And this was 3 years ago. Nothing has changed.

As a 47 yr old with mental health issues, I encourage younger people to advocate for yourself. I hope you're well! And yeah, like they prescribe atypical antipsychotics for sleep, and that's not how they're supposed to be used. I take anxiolytics and my psychiatrist freaks about that, yet, tried to give me quetiapine(aka seroquel, which can give one type 2 diabetes, Long qt syndrome aka a heart rhythm issue, dry mouth, thyroid problems, tardive dyskenisia, and extrapyramidal symptoms, etc). The anxiolytics *might* be habit forming and give me....checks notes, memory issues when I'm a senior citizen. I had ECT(shock therapy) and was on opiate maintenance treatment(MAT) for 12 years, but sure... the anxiety meds are what's going to mess up my brain. I don't know why we can't sign a document saying 'I won't hold the prescriber or the pharmaceutical company, etc, etc' paper and therefore, get what I feel I need, within reason. Pfff, sorry,, it's been a rough week! Happy Monday and good luck!

@yelloworange3125 omg, like one has to wonder if these psychiatrists even have the first clue about living with a psychiatric illness. It certainly FEELS like they haven't got a clue. My current psych provider(he's in his early 60's, I think) turns crazy shades of red any time I mention hormonal changes and my mental health.... like, that's his job, has he never had a perimenopausal patient(he surely has, you'd think he'd be open to considering that hormonal changes just might aggravate my mental health...sorry, this might be tmi... but it's frustrating...). I've got some nights where I just can't sleep, I try meditation, breathing, melatonin, but he just refuses to even address the issue. I see my primary care doctor this week, maybe SHE'LL be more understanding. Not sleeping at all 3 to 5 times a month can't be great, right? I hope you are now seeing someone better suited for you and wish you ALL the luck! I also hope you have a happy, healthy summer!🙋🏻‍♀️☮️💜

Thinking about it, radio shack dying and full on death is right about when our society was starting to fully move to a disposable electronics society. Apple was making it severely difficult to repair their laptops, phones lost replaceable batteries, fix it shops were closing down, TVs were getting cheaper and larger so when an old tv broke, you just bought a new one.

Worked for about 7 months at a medical research office this past year. They include doctors offices by law and the best rep I ever met told me NOT to change my meds since they were working for me and to not try his med. The rest were at least somewhat knowledgeable, some more than most, about their meds, but mostly were just welcome for the lunch they brought 👍

Seroquel increases risk of developing diabetes & causes HORRIBLE withdrawals if you try to stop taking them without a doctor's assistance to wean over time, and it's often difficult to convince a doctor to help you wean off. I tried to wean myself over 2 months & still was so sick for months. They don't ever warn ppl of this before prescribing

Absolutely right on. Damned drugs turned my brother in law into a zombie. Once a rare doctor pulled him off almost all his drugs he turned back into his old self. If you think maybe they were necessary, he's now 86 years old and works in his garden every day.
