[S2 - Eps. 44] Riding at almost 5,000 metres altitude in the Andes, at Paso Agua Negra

In this ride I am crossing the border again between Argentina and Chile. The border is right at the high mountain pass called "Paso Agua Negra", which is at 4753 meters altitude. Coming from the hot desert in Argentina, I am riding towards the snow, and then descend again into the hot valley on the other side.
It was a spectacular ride through different temperatures and through the stunning, colourful mountains of the Andes. It took me 10 hours to ride my motorcycle from Calingasta in Argentina, to La Serena in Chile but I did it!

Exactly my idea, Grabbies. From day one in India Noraly did things by herself. No back up, no truck following her etc. And the RE Himalayan is bringing her everywhere! No need for a oversized, heavy bike.

I have been a loner my entire life, but she puts herself into situations that I would consider unwise for myself. Breaking down on isolated roads may lead to being standed for days before help arrives. But, that's her. If she doesn't see the danger, then travel on.

Noraly, you must be shattered after that ride. That was an incredibly tough journey. Just to put it in some sort of perspective, the highest road in the UK is 670m. Even the famous Stelvio pass in the alps is only 2757m. You have gone another 2000m higher than that. Close to twice as high. Not only the altitude, but the roads were just unmade tracks much of which were in very poor condition. When you said what you had planned at the begining of the video I thought thats way too much for one day. But you did it, and kept smiling and videoing at the same time. There is a word that is used way too much, that I usually try to avoid, but what you achieved is truly AWESOME!

What a ride what scenery and nice people on the journey. If I had met a lady like yourself when I was younger I would probably still be doing as yourself, it gives me itchy feet just watching you on roads and terrain you are traveling as I did not like the blacktop roads although I did hundreds of miles on it sometimes flatout due to catching ferries or meeting other riders, I can remember riding from Calaise to Faro without stopping other than for fuel, but on the way back I took three days, hel I would sell my place tomorrow to start again, but health and commitment's are preventing me at the moment and fear I am running out of time. the border crossings in the north of Argentina are inhospitable (Agua negra, Pircas negras, San francisco, Sico, Socompa Volcano and jama) but the landscape are indescribable. The heaven in the middle of nowhere

Those ice formations are called "penitentes", we even have a place named after them, here in Mendoza, in the route that crosses to Chile. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Los_Penitentes_(Argentina)
