Hi Shayne, You probably have the Snapdragon version. This year Samsung rolled out Snapdragon in Australia. I also live in Sydney and have the S22U Snapdragon. Other thing is I suggest you try the pro mode in the camera app instead of the Expert Raw. I haven't had much luck with Expert raw especially in low light situation

Youre 100% on the money mate. I have been so used to telling people I have the Exynos version with the S21U. I must admit, I also thought I was getting better images out of the camera app. Might have to do a head to head test.

As far as I can see the Pixel photo has just a tad sharper focus. Maybe 0.8 is not the perfect value? could 0.9 be better? I mean on the phone screen it does look stunning but on the monitor the stars on the Galaxy S22 are a bit out of focus. Anyways, Thanks to your vids I've made some awesome pics of the night sky with the S22 Ultra this weekend, I didn't go that much into catching the galactic core, but the stars above the light-painted subject look awesome.

Well one thing that you miss here is that you dont stack any pic from the Samsung. But the pixel do so. If you would stack 5-10 photos from the galaxy it should give some better result 🤔.

Turns out I have the Snapdragon. It was the other way with the previous model. From what I see on the FB group, there really isnt much of a difference.

I like both but with pixel you only need tap the Astrophotography button four minutes that's it. Samsung needs Astro Button.

The S22U infinity focus is useless. It doesn't focus, need to be put at 0.8

With the new camera app, even on the S21 it changed the focus point. Prior to that I used infinity. Now infinity is just blurry.

I did the core on my S10 and new S22U and focus needs to be tested around the 0.8, that is to say, don’t settle with 0.8 immediately. Would be really handy to have a micro adjustment plug-in or a multiple shot mechanism that adjusts focus plus/minus a few increments.

With the Samsung on pro mode am I right in saying you have more freedom? I.e you can use it for general night photos maybe even some light painting and I’m guessing the pixel is designed for just stars?

Would stacking shots with a lower iso, and perhaps a variance of 2 stops improve the initial quality? Is there an app for android that allows "automagically" stacking photos, such as "CameraPixels" does for the iPhone?

Motion stacks does that, got a sweet picture of a waterfall with it and intervalometer.

Yes absolutely, but there is no stacking app for that. The motion one captures... motion. We want to stack the stars and align them. Ill be shooting a video very soon on stacking, but not on phone.

I cant really say which is best for the pixel, I didnt have the adaptor for the pixel. I know they will be doing it in the future, but they didnt have one right now. But the Shiftcam ones are the sharpest I have seen so far mate.

Hey Shayne, Been watching a lot of videos at the iphone 14 48mp pixel binning . Initially bigger pixels but utilising the smaller pixels as well. So sounds like capturing much more light but i don’t know if more noisy or not. What’s your take mate about how god the phone 14 cameras will be ? 8k shooting as well with better zoom . How good do you think it will be with astro photography ? Thanks as highly value tor opinion.

can be done on the snapdragon version probably with the BSG or Arnova's mods but the sky seems a lot brighter than looking natural like in the original pixel

The s22 ultra 108mp lens is 1.0x. If you use 0.8x then your digital zooming from the worse wide angle lens.

Its doesnt use 108MP in manual mode. The 0.8 is focusing, not zooming in.
