Great video. One thing you could do is to use the S-Pen as a remote camera trigger, so you don't need to touch the phone before taking the photo. Guess that it would prevent some shaking from touching the screen to begin with :)

The manual focus is very simple. when ever you do astrophotograph you have to focus on a distant object, a faraway light post or a star, Denab was my favorite. On the S21 which is the same camera as the s22 the infinite focus seems to be three ticks down from the end.

You need an ND filter so that you can use longer exposures. I'm guessing ND32 for a 4 second exposure will do (for a typical overcast daylight). Hello Brent, I am a tattoo artist. I will soon invest in a real set up to take pictures of my tattoos. I noticed in a lot of your videos you have your favorite lenses are the Moment lenses, but they don't appear to fit on the the S22 Ultra (I use that phone also). The issue I have is that tattoos either have huge over exposed areas or glare from bodily fluids on fresh tattoos. I have been studying on how to fix this recently, and found most people recommend polarized light and a CPL filter. Most of the solutions I have seen to attach these filters to a phone seem... extremely janky. Of course the real solution is a proper camera, but in the meantime, would you have a suggestion? I thought about that Beastgrip thing, but it seems that might be money better spent on a proper camera? Last thing I am a complete noob, what camera proper camera would you recommend for a noob like me to get better tattoo pics and maybe some pictures out while hiking? Thanks in advance!
@BrentHall2 жыл бұрын
Yeah...the moment lenses were definitely my favorite until the S22 Ultra and they quit making lens-compatible cases for Samsung. I doubt they'll make any more moving forward, so I've completely given up on moment lenses since I only have an S22 Ultra. The onboard lenses have been great though. Moment does make a universal adapter but I just don't think it works that well with the S22 either, so personally I wouldn't bother with that. It's not as easy but you can certainly just hold the CP filter over the the phone with your hand. Just get a big enough filter (like 72mm or bigger) and hold it manually. That's the cheapest/easiest fix, though not as practical or convenient as a proper mount, lol. Like you mentioned, something like a beast grip might be cool, but I definitely agree that you'd overall be better off just putting that money into a better camera. On that note, I don't personally have experience with that many cameras. I'm definitely not a fanboy or anything, but I do shoot Canon, so it's what I know best, but you really can't go wrong with any new camera these days, they're all pretty amazing. The key things really are ergonomics, menu system comfort, lenses, and just overall feel. Best way to find out is to go to a store and see if they have different brands and models that you can try. See which feels the best to you. Personally I think Canon has one of the best overall menus in terms of easy to use and functionality, which is part of the reason I've stuck with them. Within Canon I would say if you want to start out and have something a little more future proof, then their RF system is the way to go, but it is a big price jump up from a phone. The new R10 is their entry level crop body camera, and it's pretty solid for the price (though still relatively expensive). You can certainly always go the dslr rout and get into something like a T7i and some EF-S lenses for much much less money, and that will still be way more versatile and better quality than a phone can do. I would say the same for any other brand as well. Nikon, Sony, etc., all have new mirrorless systems that are great, if a bit pricey still, and all offer older models at much better prices. CPs are definitely helpful for glare though, as is just learning about lighting techniques in general. Learning how to control your light is the first step to getting much better results with any camera setup. Sorry, I know that's a long, convoluted answer, but I get these kind of questions a lot and they are very hard to answer.

That was a timelapse I did with another camera. I had it running the whole time we were filming the video. Does anyone know whether you could create an 8 hour time lapse on the S22? Looking to make a timelapse/hyperlapse of a piece of art, however playing around with hyperlapse mode, it seems like once you shut the screen off (to save battery) it stops the lapse. Also, being such a long time lapse - would it cut off when I hit a certain file size? Thanks in advance.
@BrentHall2 жыл бұрын
hmm, yeah that's a long time for a phone. I think the the only that you might be able to do that with a phone would be to do a traditional timelapse, the hard way (I have a video about how to do it) and have it take still images at an interval and then edit them all in post to make the timelpase. If you shoot them in jpeg and not raw, then the files will be smaller and and easier to render out in premiere or whatever video editor you're using. also, you'd most likely want to get an external power bank to keep your phone charged for a shoot that long. Still don't know how it would go though, never tried one that long on a phone before.

@@BrentHall awesome reply. Thank you. I'll do a test run out my window and see how it does on a hyperlapse all day I guess. Just trial and error isn't it. I'll check out your video and use that method too see how they both end up 😁

Really nice video , however will suggest to switch off the camera lights before the shutter click

I did that on purpose, so it would light up the foreground in the image.
