Exactly! That's why it baffles me when people defends Samsung for doing this. Is natural mode more accurate? Yes, great! Is vivid less true to life? Absolutely, that's why it isn't natural. So why would you make more natural-looking an option that's supposed to NOT look natural? Why would you remove an option and call it a feature? That's what companies like Apple are known for, and the fact that now even Samsung costumers are willing to put up with that mindset really worries me.

Why isnt anybody talking about the grainy screens? I noticed my s24 ultras screen being really grainy at night when i have my brightness lowered and with the eye comfort setting enabled, its really jarring. what youre talking here about the screen not being vivid isnt the real issue!

details look crushed in dark areas. It is a combination of vivid mode issues and the matte screen. Don't think they can fix it. Best I can describe is it looks like an LCD display...returning mine...

I personally compared my set with the demo sets at retailers and Samsung Experience stores and their display appear much better. Possibly the reviewers got such demo sets with superior displays!

I compared my S24 Ultra with my S20 fe and I confirm that the colors are less vivid, but I have two TVs, two computers and an iPad and each of them has colors calibrated differently because they are from different brands (HP, Apple, Panasonics , Samsung, Asus), so I would never have noticed this if I hadn't read some comments on the internet, for me the screen has beautiful colors!

I love my S24 Ultra. It is what it is with the vivid option. I work outside and the extra brightness helps tremendously. At the same time, the anti-reflective screen is amazing. I did use the vivid option on my S23 Ultra and it was definitely more "vibrant." However, it is what it is. No complaints here. IN MY OPINION, the difference isn't THAT noticeable.

HDR content does not show any grain. It's more of the UI color palette and style. It was just made to look more grey with grain. If you enable secure file and open that while in dark mode, the black background has no grain. There's a lot of other situation in which the grain goes away. Dark mode makes it stand out more though.

Yess I noticed my screen is grainy and is very noticeable on dark grey color. Even on 50% brightness, I can see it. Such a shame is not the ui because I took a screenshot and transferred to my s23 ultra, and the screenshot doesn't show up any grain at all

As a photographer and videographer, I never liked the fake saturation look. It looks guady especially with 8bit images as the gradients are too thick. I want to see how other creators wanted you to see their photo/video colors, not a fake representation that is overly saturated, same goes for how I want you to view my photo and video colors that I edited a specific way. Always like how iphone colors looked better especially with its 10bit panels with 10bit content, more natural & accurate but not too bland

Do you have any info or fix to why my mobile games are auto closing & crashing on the s24 ultra?. 2 games in particular are "Nikke Goddess of Victory" & "Pokémon Go". There are other mobile games people are having issues with also. I'm almost to the point of factory resetting my phone 😔 considering on tinkering w the dev menu options but don't want to mess anything up. Thanks

Great summary about this screen shenanigans mate. I gave my S24+ back today because of this also a poor experience with the exynos version. I spoke to Samsung last week and they said they are aware of this issue and will be sending an update. Spoke to them yesterday and they said definitely no update as this is what was intended. Trouble is it's a bit too washed out for me. Looks worse than natural. My S105g from 2019 looks sharper aswell with it's quad hd screen. Do you think an update can definitely fix something intentional like this? I was considering the S24 ultra mainly because of the 8gen3 peace of mind. Or maybe wait a little while longer to see what this update actually does.

It's not even the colors. It's the off Axis color shift. In the grain I. Purchased this phone as a second device. Because they had a good trade and deal. But my primary device is a 13 pro max. And the screen is much more pleasant to look at. It's not as big or bright, but it definitely has a nicer look at times

Noticed there is a slight difference between natural and vivid. They are not the same. After switching my phone to the QHD+ resolution, it looked a lot better. Forgot the default was FHD+. So it's not bothering me as much, and now I don't squint as much using the phone. Hopefully if enough people complain they could add the colors back as another option.

Sounds like a cover-up for a bad batch of displays (or) a limitation of their current technology. If the Vivid Mode is iPhone lookalike what is the natural mode? Why bother giving 2 display modes if the difference between the two is negligible. There definitely seems to be a problem with the display as it is not just color saturation, but also overall contrast.

Maybe Samsung is unable to do anything about washed screen and hence the statement. One display scientist on reddit pointed out that sub pixels are unable to lit evenly due to absence of something called PWM in display. Display may look washed out and grainy due to this. Tried 2 ultras in separate stores. There was a very slight difference between natural and vivid mode. But still, the screen looks good! iPhone user here (for now)

I pre-ordered, but it won't arrive until February 27, so it will be interesting to see what I get. As a photographer, I'm glad to have the screen more natural, because when I took pics with the S23 Ultra and uploaded to social media, it looked less saturated than it did on the phone. That's been my experience with my other Samsung phones. I never knew exactly what I would be getting. I always had to up the saturation of the pics but I had to guess at it, because the phone screen was not giving me an accurate representation.

I personally like the “easier on the eyes” adjustment that they’ve made… however, it seems sneaky for them to not bring this up or at least include this information in their launch materials. Also, from their own software experience, it seems odd that they wouldn’t make sure that there would be at least some difference between vivid and natural… a little disappointing, but overall still love the device!

The issue is. It’s loosing lots of details. In the image. Apple doesn’t loose photo details. Go to setting where you can change from vivid to natural and compare the blown out clouds on that phone with your old phone. You will see it’s a cheaper display.

I’ve been using the Galaxy s24 for a week, this is what I’ve observed so far in comparison to iPhone. Pros: The customization features are nice and the widgets are a little nicer than on iOS. The punch hole cutout is better than the notch and I like the way you can add an app to a folder without needing to drag it. The split screen feature is cool but not all that useful for me personally. Screen quality is excellent. Cons: app and emoji detail is okay but not as nice as on iOS, admittedly better than it used to look. On board speakers are decent but tinnier than the iPhone, even when adjusting the equalizer. Samsung email is more dull looking than on iOS to me. Notification badges are hit or miss, sometimes it’s obvious what needs to be checked and other times it isn’t…plus sometimes they don’t disappear when they ought to once I’ve checked the app. Faster battery drain than on my iPhone 13 Pro Max, can’t watch movies/tv series purchased on iOS (that i know of anyway), and the finger print scanner is a train wreck, it hardly works. Face ID is decent but not better than on iPhone.

While you're talking about Samsung scandals.... they ran a pre-release promo where you could give them your email and you'd get a "$50 Reservation Gift" in ADDITION to all the other reservation promos. Well, on the day orders opened the reservation gift didn't work. A week later it still didn't work. A lot of people ordered the phone anyway. I'm left wondering how many people Samsung screwed out of the "Reservation Gift" $50 promo. I suspect it's everyone who signed up for it. I upgraded from the S22 Ultra to the S24 Ultra. Yes, I noticed the difference, but only because I had the S22 next to the S24 and you can see the difference. Now since I don't have the S22 anymore and I only use the S24 or only look at the S24 screen, I don't see the difference. It looks fine to me. Now switching from Vivid to Natural doesn't really make a difference. It should or what's the point of having the option there if it doesn't do anything. It should do something or remove the setting. But personally, I don't care. Having 512gb of storage vs the 128gb I had on the S22 and running out of storage is a huge difference in comparison to the screen difference.

Honestly the vivid mode was too saturated, it was never good for photos or video. Over saturation also diminishes detail in HDR content. After a couple of days your brain readjust and the colors look absolutely fine.

I'm upset it's not vivid. Love vivid mode. Still not use to it. Very dull colors.

Yo that's crazy, I was comparing my s21 ultra vs my s24+ and was wondering why my s21 was more vibrant . I'm upset I sent my s21 in. Hope they send it back.

I always ran mine on natural anyway so ill be keepin mine great phone . I think its just as samsung knights we are used to the customization and them saying nope is kind of bugging us but deal with it or not im tored of hearing about this .

Yeah, i put this S24+ screen to screen with my 15PM and found that the 24+is about 2mm shorter and 1mm less wide. On the screen, i actually prefer the natural mode to vivid as does my office buddy with his s24. Same as my 15PM screen. But yeah, i think Samsung is going about it wrong with making the phone identical to the iPhone. I'm not sure how the base 24 model stacks up screen to screen with the base iPhone 15. I'd still pick the Samsung over the iPhone anyways. Good job pointing out that Samsung toned the screen down on purpose Adam.

I would appreciate the vivid option. I switched in 2015 from iphone to android for the options, the unique ability to customize. Why change now Samsung. You are right, I don't want an Apple!

I´ve used many Samsung devices and I always had to calibrate their screen to get rid of the awfull super saturated colors and make them more natural. That´s a great move from them. Keep the natural colors and the option to saturate, for those who want´s.

I keep my A42 display set to natural just because I don’t like the over saturation but that should be left up to the user to decide what they want. Samsung users have a set expectation of what the display should look like so i could definitely see how some people wouldn’t like it.
