Join the Barefoot Doctors on the trans-Atlantic voyage as they leave St Helena and get back into the groove of a 4000nm crossing to St Lucia. The Oxley wing spinnaker is the main source of power and gets us going at 50% of wind speed at all angles downwind including directly downwind!
We also catch a massive fish whose pedigree at first eludes us but with internet help we realise that we have caught a 2 metre .... ..... (see video to find ou exactly!) The not course we need to fillet it, create sashimi and fish fillets for freezing...
We also offer our mental health services and the TUFMINDS processes to help the victims of the Lahaina fires on Maui. So if you know anyone that needs counselling or help with loss, bereavement, stress, anxiety, PTSD and much more, get them to contact us in the comments below, contact u=our Facebook page on Barefoot Doctors or email us directly on drjohnmcintosh@tpg.com.au
We have reached out to the organisers of the relief efforts and several individuals but would like to help many more people because the TUFMINDS strategies help individuals to reframe bad experiences and we can teach these to many folk together so group sessions could be arranged if the numbers warrant it... Please put the word out to anyone you know.
The first Patreon sailing event is in the week of 17th Sept in Gocek, Turkey so those lucky to be patrons on our channel can join us for this great week of sailing the Turquoise Coast of Turkey with us on our Leopard 45!!! Join up if you want to have those opportunities...
Our Patreon option starts from only $3 per week, and will allow our supporters to enjoy live updates, join us for sailing events in Gocek, Turkey (Sept 2023), Aegean Greece, May 2024. Then in Dubai Jan 2025 (aboard the new Portofino 52) join us for the launching party and test sails!!! We are also offering boat build tours with sailing off Dubai to share the progress of the P52 build and provide whatever sailing or life discussions that YOU want us to provide during all of these events..... It is a very exciting prospect and we have been requested repeatedly to give advice, take folk sailing, teach sailing techniques etc etc.... So here it is!!!
Any Patreons will have the choice to join us for these events which are usually about 5 days to be up close and personal with Eli and John and learn from their expertise... There will be sailing trips, excursions and chats during the events and the subjects will be designed to suit the participants that will be there. Patreons will receive all the sailing and talks with the Barefoot Doctors without any cost but will only have to cover their own travel, food and accomodation costs.
All Patreon proceeds go to Exqisit Life Foundation to support TUFMINDS Mental Resilience and Suicide Prevention Program worldwide.
Some come Barefoot with us on this exciting journey - now physically and in person with Patreon if you wish!!!
Binge watch and come barefoot with us as we travel and explore the planet, mostly from the water but sometimes through the minds of others as we provide aid and support where needed through the amazing TUFMINDS solutions!
WHAT IS TUFMINDS
The free TUFMINDS program is released as a smartphone program under the Exqisit Life Foundation Charity, a registered not for profit and requires financial support to fund the free program. TUFMINDS saves lives by intervening at the point of suicide and pulling everyone to higher levels of mental resilience, wellbeing and functioning. it also creates better attitudes, resilience and coping - all very important for sailors facing difficult situations at sea.

The Leopard 50 is an awesome Blue Water Weapon, she is truly an honest boat. BUT she's not a Portofino 52, that's the complete package and we are just sooooo dam excited, the Barefoot Drs Family are the ones with the huge grins😁 on their faces. Best way to freeze fish, is by using a vacuum storage machine. BUT gotta say Thankyou Mark and Crew for an absolutely fantastic experience that u have given and shared with us. John, Eli ur both very kind, special and completely caring people, Thankyou for what ur doing to help everyone who has suffered in that horrific, Catastrophic event. Much love💖🇦🇺

Nice to hear from you again Karlene and the straw is a vacuum storage machine isn’t it? Yes we can’t wait to have the P52 but are still enjoying our journey to get there…

Great video guys as usual. The world needs more people like you guys John and Ellie, your generosity helping others in need shows who you are. There are 3 young sailors on Travelsketch that could probably use your help. They are living a nightmare with their purchase of a new Leopard 45 that is nothing short of a lemon and are getting shafted by Robertson & Cain. Their mental health is really suffering. If you could reach out to these 3 young aussies and lend them your ear and a little of your time I’m sure that it would help them and they would surely appreciate it. Cheers from WA

Hi ALan, I had relied to this comment earlier but it does not seem to be posted. Yes we are aware of their situation and would love to help them reframe their focus to improve their resilience... We have communicated with them before but not been asked for professional help - we will reach out.....

@@barefootdoctorssailing8567 that’s great John and Ellie, they sure could benefit from your guidance. On another note, can’t wait to see more on your new 52. Did the investigators ever find the cause of the fire on your beautiful leopard 50? Cheers

@@alanpiper9614 We will be sharing the details of the cause of the fire "shortly" as the legal processes are coming to an end (we think....) It should be soon but will share those details when we can.

All of you are going to some beautiful places and that was a big fish you got a few more that size would definitely feel your freezer. And yes that wasabi I'm sure was strong I can only handle a little tip on my fork when I go to the Chinese restaurant. I was supposed to go with a friend for lunch at a Chinese buffet today but I decided just to stay home and rest. But I see you have a nice crew helping you out that's really good all of you stay safe and healthy out there catch more fish. Watching from Roseville California USA.❤

We had a family member lose their place on Lahaina and with two other couples the fire came close to their homes but everything is fine. Lastly two family friends, sisters, were vacationing there, they are safe too but were happy to get home. For us living around the world, it was anxious times and took days before we heard anything from them.

Something about nylon monofilament leaders. I've got a few very lightweight mobiles in my house hanging on monofilament. If I don't use a swivel, then at least once a year just the slight twisting will weaken and snap the monofilament. If I use a swivel? 15 years and still going. I put swivels on my lures, and usually the first thing tied to the end of my line is a swivel. Two swivels close to each other? I don't see a problem. I do like the steel leaders. And that bent hook? Maybe put that one in your column. A bent hook usually means a fish that's too big. I asked my dock neighbor Gary, 'How can you catch fish no bigger than say 25 lbs?" He said you can't, but then he told me about bent hooks. & Good food handling tips.

Hi Will thanks for the info. Yes we reckoned the straightened hook was a big marlin cause they have very tough mouths apparently while the other fish (wahoo, tuna, mahi mahi) will tear their flesh instead of straightening those big hooks. I thought that the monofilament leaders were just being cut thru by the teeth or bills of the fish and the companies are happy for you to lose them cause then you have to buy more - bit tricky in the middle of the Atlantic though! Yes I agree with you about swivels because the lures spin in the water and the lines get unbelievably twisted without them... Ta!

Maybe the Balance wasn’t flying a spinnaker?
@barefootdoctorssailing8567
@barefootdoctorssailing8567 11 ай бұрын
We met them in St Helena and they certainly had an asymmetric spinnaker and a Code 0 type furling sail but we think that because we could go so deep downwind and they were working the angles, we caught up with them. Over the next few days we either kept level with them or made more progress on them but only 10 or 20 miles. They then stopped in Brazil so we could not keep the tracking going.

If you want to keep fish fresh in freezer then freeze fish in water. You can pull fish out 3 years later and zero freezer burn.

Hi Richard, Thanks for watching and for the comments. I do not know why you should be. subscriber on your computer but not on your phone and I think the most likely reason is that you are logged on in your phone under another name or email. However we would be more than happy for you to click the subscriber button on your phone too and then you are a double subscriber!!! Even better for us! In relation to the differences between our experience and the other channel and the fact that they are very very different. We have no vested interest in the Leopards and have no reason to promote them at all - we get no kick backs or benefits. We are just reporting what our experience is and it is very good. We also meet many many other Leopard owners that are also very happy and the main complaint about Leopard is that their process is slow and they have improved that in the last year with a direct online claim so you can bypass the agents that are sometimes the delay. While the problems that those poor folk have suffered are heart breaking, that is a single boat and we have never come across any other Leopard with anything like that. There is always stuff that does not get out from both sides of the story that would make the cause more clear but that experience is unique... So while one Leopard boat undoubtedly has problems, the cause is unclear (and unusual) and we are only telling our story as it is and I would only trust my life to a Leopard and not any other common brand boat.... The build quality is visibly better and the evidence is in the history of all the brands and we have had excellent warranty responses and easy claims so their experience indicates inexperience esp in regards to the OEM equipment that has to be claimed through the other manufacturer and any after market work that was done. That may well be some the conflict that they have experienced cause they did have a lot of work done to the boat after handover.... However our experience and their experience are what they are and we try to solve problems and avoid conflict so everything can be fixed fairly and reasonably and for us, this approach has worked. This approach also seems to be be working with our insurance claim that is now 2 years old but because we did not drag the parties through the ringer over these two years, a settlement is starting to be formulated and that full story would have made great KZbin footage but we want a solution, not blood!!! It's better to work cooperatively with companies to find out what the real problem is, get the right people in the assess the problem (eg Robertson and Caine engineers - the builder of Leopards who I heard in Cape Town they did not allow on the boat) because if there was a serious problem with their build, WE ALL WANT TO KNOW about it so it can be corrected for the future, including the builder.. Hope that helps but basically we have different stories to tell.
