Excellent lesson! I once lived in a heavily evangelical community and was a teacher at a high school. We had some pretty impressive LDS students at that time (we only about 6 LDS student total and I was one of 2 LDS teachers). One day, as I was minding my own business, eating my lunch, a anti-religious teacher asked me, in front of the roomful of evangelicals "How can I raise my children to be as good as these LDS kids without using the Bible or The Book of Mormon!" All heads turned towards me, eyes locked on me awaiting my response. I swallowed and took a moment (praying I'd say the right thing) and I said "You can't. It's our doctrine that teaches them to be good people. " It amazes me that people can't see the connection between our church and our goodness.

You are so right! It's like they want to be fit without working out. The doctrine is what does it. Great story!

From the time that I set aside to listen to the teachings of the Book of Mormon, it is difficult for me to have a quiet time and not learn from it.Listening to the teachings is like breathing in fresh air for me.I feel blessed.

Thank you both so much for this episode. Lots to glean, and today as someone who is in the process of seperation from a spouse who is not a believer in God or Jesus Christ, therefore doesnt understand my decisions not being financially or us based first. I am grateful for Hank's reminder that the Lord can do His work of taking care of my husband as he is His son...and my job is to love, hold on to my covenant connections, be patient and forgive - even in the hard parts, not an easy walk, the angst and ugly bits are real, but this is doable and with room for gratitude🎉 today with my hand in the Savior's❤

2 Quotes I love: " Wickedness never was Happiness " And Joseph Smith "...I teach them correct principles and they govern themselves " With the Joseph Smith's Quote, It seems that in an age appropriate way, out job is to teach the truth to others and it is their job to be open to the Spirit, and pray for help to learn and love the truth, trasure up the truth and learn to govern themselves all with The Lord's help. So we need to let the light of Christ shine in us so that others can see our good works and glorify our Father who is in Heaven. And learn to hear Him and follow Him. Thank you so much , I also enjoy studying like this.😊

Wow. I was unsettled tonight being ill, voting, and concerned for my family. So I was scrolling through the offering in my subscriptions. I hadn't listened to this one, so I played it. As usual, there were many insights that enlightened me. And then, you two got to the last few minutes. Lightening, not lightning, struck I know the Lord is able to do His Own Work, but I've been fretting anyway. Thank you both for being instrumental to delivering the message to my heart.

It's interesting to see how far the Nephites fell. They went from the high of the highs to the low of the lows. I guess there's an equal and opposite reaction in all things.

I'm a convert, and read the Book of Mormon for the first time when I was 16. I was completely lost, but especially when the Words of Mormon came up. I can't believe I kept reading, or prayed about this book that made no sense to me. I don't think I understood any of it until I went to BYU and took religion classes. I was lucky enough to have Spencer Condie for my first semester of BOm, but my 2nd semester, I had a teacher who told us he had no idea why the ward chapters were in the Bom. You can imagine my disappoint in that semester. Fortunately, after all these years, I think I'm finally understanding this amazing book that I almost threw away.
@TheScripturesAreReal3 ай бұрын
I have to believe that the Spirit kept you going, and I am glad you can keep gaining more and more out of it. We will all do that for a lifetime. (BTW, I hope you can see why the war chapters are in there now, or at least some of the reasons why).

Thank u Kerry 4 ur channel ! A good point your guest brought up about delayed obedience = repentance (his daughter)! Say, Kerry, I wanted to ask u about Mormon’s time period ! Is that more commensurate w/ after the millennium when Satan will be loosed for a little season; whereAS, our time , NOW, is more reminiscent w/ the Bk o Helaman that retrogressed into wickedness in speedy fashion as Elder Bednar accentuated in the most recent general cf!?!
@TheScripturesAreReal3 ай бұрын
I can't say for sure. But if I had to guess, I would say we are in the Book of Helaman/beginning of 3 Nephi period. Perhaps the post millennial period is like Mormon's day, but I don't know.

@carllundberg70732 ай бұрын
He’ll as I understand it seems to be of two types- a temporary state of punishment for this who sinned in weakness and ignorance who then do not fully repent or accept Christ’s vicarious payment for sin. Worse than hell is a place the scriptures distinguish from hell, called Outer Darkness. This is a state of condemnation that is worse than what is ‘hell’. This punishment is reserved for those referred to as ‘the sons of Perdition’. Those who have not only ignorantly sinned or sinned in weakness, but those like Satan who have openly rebelled against God after having known perfectly of His existence and offering of forgiveness, mercy and grace. These would include Cain and it seems Judas who betrayed Christ. Individuals who have or would crucify Jesus Christ unto themselves- or shed His innocent blood knowing He was/ is the ‘Lamb of God, who taketh away the sins of the world.’ Hell seems it would be an awful experience, but Outer Darkness apparently would be infinitely worse. Unimaginable. A place where there is no Light at all. Outside of God’s influence and Kingdom entirely. I hypothesize that what we understand to be black holes are entrances, gates or portals, if you will, to this ‘place’ called in Scripture ‘Outer Darkness’. Here is God’s own explanation of Outer Darkness in 19 th century English: 😱 “they shall go away into everlasting punishment, which is endless punishment, which is eternal punishment, to reign with the devil and his angels in eternity, where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched, which is their torment- And the end thereof, neither the place thereof, nor their torment, no man knows; Neither was it revealed, neither is, neither will be revealed unto man, except to them who are made partakers thereof; Nevertheless, I, the Lord, show it by vision unto many, but straightway shut it up again; Wherefore, the end, the width, the height, the depth, and the misery thereof, they understand not, neither any man except those who are ordained unto this condemnation.”
