Hey Sarge, second time I've heard you comment on pin fish, so I though I'd bloviate on what a guide in Rock Port told me. He didn't mention spec's but he did say the Pin's and Red's are natural enemies. When the Red's make out a clear spot to spawn in, the Pin's come in to eat their eggs. He would slightly cut the end of the tail and hook them right behind the dorsal fin. That's all I know and sticking to it.

This is why shore fishing has all but taken me out of fishing until I can afford a kayak. Getting skunked or getting one bite every few hours hurts after a while.

Don't buy anything expensive until you know you're going to like it. Get something that can carry your weight and that of your gear. Hit a protected marsh during windy days and enjoy the beauty of hunting down the fish instead of waiting for them to come to you.

Great video bro.. Made me grin to see I'm not the only one who doesn't have the best of luck on that side of Galveston. I always seem to have better luck from the state park on down to surfside Jetty. That's why I usually find a little pocket beach in Jamaica.

Minimum size for speckled trout is 15". I think you were a bit shy. Where you started used to be great for trout, reds and flounder but wade fishing and not bank fishing. Back fifty years ago I could catch fifty or more trout in a morning and seine up all the small shrimp I needed for a days fishing. Unfortunately with the shrimp boats, oyster boats and intense fishing pressure the fishing is only perhaps one tenth of what it used to be. I had a friend who would go to the causeway and put his boat in there in the evening after work. Go a few hundred yards from there and catch half a dozen big trout in no time at all and then head back home. The very best fishing was the original pier near the north jetty that kept washing away during hurricanes. You could catch eight and nine pound trout off that pier and a couple of hundred pounds of gafftop at night (on cut eel). The best I did was on speckled trout at night under a full moon using cut ribbon fish for bait.

Try using a mesh laundry bag with some jack mackerel inside. Boat ramps with grass around them or the marsh. You can get plenty of bait. You can find these items at dollar stores. I live by dollar tree and they have it there.

Thats bait fishing for me. Dont know what you where trying to catch with the net.. Seems like your not equip for big fish such as bullreds. Big mullet, croaker, and sand trout is the cut bait of choice for bank fishing.
@MDLRFishing5 жыл бұрын
I'm using my 1/4 inch net for smaller bait, like finger mullet.
@brentbillig58645 жыл бұрын
@@MDLRFishing ok. Here is a great spot for finger mullet. Put your waders on. Drive like your going to park at Freeport Jetty. Then turn right on the road before you go straight to the parking area. There will be a rock wall along the coast line. At the end of it towards the jetty side there is small beach area. Where the rocks end and become beach there is always alot of finger mullet swimming in and out of the rocky area.
