WEST COAST SAILING, South Africa part 3
Hello, and welcome to part 3 of our trip up the west coast of South Africa.
This is South Africas west coast and most cruisers skip a large part of it and head straight over and do the Atlantic Ocean crossing.
We think they are missing a lot.
So far, we have been and seen Robben Island, Dassen Island and into Saldanha Bay.
Some days of the trip were swelly, some were choppy with wind from all over.
Other section of the trip was pure bliss.
Join us on part 3 as we drop and lift anchor all around the Langebaan Lagoon. There is a lot still to see an do.
Saldanha Bay Yacht Club is located in a sheltered area of Smitswinkelbaai Saldanha Bay.
The breakwater and hills create a very sheltered harbour.
The whole area is paradise for watersports. The majority of local community strongly depend on fishing, mussels, seafood processing and steel.
The harbour also plays an important part in the export of Iron ore and all these industries and their activities are prominent and hard to miss.
You will see fishing boats and mussel and oyster farms all around.
Regardless of these activities the area is still pretty, quaint and relaxed with lots of room to explore and sail around. We will share more about this town in a future video.
First, with our plans to go to Cape Town moved out with a week, we lifted anchor once again and sailed from Saldanha to Langebaan
Langebaan is well known for it’s the white sand beaches surrounding the clear waters of the lagoon. The waters is mostly sheltered and is another favourite for sailing, kayaking, kitesurfing and fishing. To protect its culture as a fishing, holiday and retirement village, Langebaan allows no industries.

Thank you soooo much for this beautiful vid - just so sensitively filmed! I felt a bit queasy seeing the rough stuff in Table Bay, but felt better once you were at Langebaan. Just marvelous - I feel as if I am there! God bless, Dave

Thank you Dave. The trip to get here was def not easy on my tummy either. The lagoon, however, allows for much easier sailing in the protected waters. Thanks for watching and more to come of this beautiful area.
