Hi people, thanks for another great video. Greece is so beautiful, would love to go back there one day. I have been studying the YTC bareboat skipper course last year but need more practical knowledge. What would be the best way to do this do you think? I don’t yet have a boat. Fair winds.

Glad yo are enjoying the videos and absolutely the best way to miles under your belt is to join a boat as crew for passages and that way you get your miles up quickly and get the actual sailing experience that is what you need incl night watches etc. There are many online sites for crew wanted - often free or pay for share of food / costs.

I love your channel. I live vicariously through your adventures. I am following your Portifinio 52 build. I watched another channel, with a new build that had several issues. They found stray currents throughout a fiberglass boat. A lot of rust and metal compromises were discovered. How are you dealing with stray currents and metal compromises on your aluminum catamaran? Thanks for your channel.
@barefootdoctorssailing8567
@barefootdoctorssailing8567 17 күн бұрын
Hi Brian, yes we love the Wynns channel and had very pleasant dealings with them on several issues in the past so we are very sad to see them be.suffering from those frustrations. Like they say, carbon (like aluminium) conducts current very well and even the carbon can suffer from electrolysis effects but not as severely as aluminium. The difference I believe is that carbon is not the first thing to dissolve but the other metals are so their stray current is destroying their SS fittings and their engines. Now they have recognised the source and put in a monitor, they should be able to seee if it starts happening again. For your question as to how we are protecting our boat from "stray current" / electrolysis, We are having 6 monitors around the boat measuring the voltage and current in micro measurement (V/A) and it runs continuously and will alarm if any current is seen (measured). This has been designed by specialists in that field so we feel confident it should protect us - but as we always say - "We will see"!

👏👏👏 Welcome Jill!!! Hello again this week John and Eli (and Jill)! You and I have discussed your Tuff Mind's project some time ago now (in Brisbane), does the program help with procrastination? Or deal with underlying causes of such? The 52 is looking good. I'm so envious of course, but I must ask. Will you only be using the 52 in the Med, or shall you truely tour the world? If that is the case, where will the 1st, 2nd and 3rd likely destinations be outside of the Med!??

hanks for your comments again Garth! Tufminds teaches folk to control and remove negative thoughts which are usually the cause of procrastination (unless it is just laziness of course)! Try downloading the free app and go through the four No NITs (negative impulsive thoughts) videos and start practicing those steps and let us know how you do!!!

Been watching the Bering video talking about their new power cats and skegs protecting the props and rudders. Got me wondering something about your beaching. Would it be worth keeping something on board that you can sling under the keels before the tide goes out to protect the paint and antifoul from scratches during the inevitable bouncing as the tides recedes or comes in? Sheets of rubber mat maybe? Could be rolled up and stowed easily without taking much space?
@barefootdoctorssailing8567
@barefootdoctorssailing8567 18 күн бұрын
They way we got around it was to choose your spot well where there would not be any swell as the time comes in or goes out and use a stern anchor to prevent swaying sideways as the boat starts to lift off as this can wear off the antifoul. I think mats would be quite awkward to keep in the right place and it is when you are moving in the water that the problem is and that is when the mats would move around or away...

Hi I will try again, this time without links, regarding you double regular size fridge freezer, I would have the same thing, but I would not have the ice cube maker integrated in the unit, many reports says that to much electronics in fridge is no good, many repairs, and you will not have access to repair teams, I would have an external counter top ice cube maker, not expensive and easy to replace. Also I would not have fridge AND freezer in same unit, if one "dies" both are probably dead. I was checking Miele Dubai, they have split regular sizes fridges and freezer, that way if one dies you still have the other one. Also you could place the smaller freezer unit in the hull where you have space, you probably only have to access the freezer once a day (if you are smart 🤣) so keeping that away from galley area is the smart option for may reasons, and then you also could have more table space in galley, where you could have the ice cube maker, smart that way, just refill it with water daily and you have all the cubes you need. Just my opinion, and how I would do it. Good luck with the Portofino Aluminum Cat. Like you vdo clips here on KZbin. Stay safe.

A followup to my suggestion last week of a marker for where the haul out nylon straps (bands) should be. Instead of leaping dolphins, it would be appropriate for doctors to mark the location with crossed Band-Aids (pun intended) with your Barefoot Doctors logo on them.

only thing I can say about the paint. Do not get anything reflective or too shiny. Get in the wrong sun angle and be blinded or blind neighbors at anchor. Learned that from a Harley my brothers friend had. even chrome can be a pain in the arse. Just thought I would share that so you have all the info.

I live in Switzerland as a Dutch guy. I have my Master 300 license and in Switzerland, I cannot use anything larger than a rowboat with a 9hp engine. It is just stupid! I can take 40 meter super yachts all over the world but not a little boat of the lakes. Utterly stupid rules, not even to mention the cost they charge you. After 11 years I am happy to leave Switzerland and moving to the Italian Riviera.

Yes Patrick, bureaucracy is often ludicrous. In Australia I sailed my 42 foot catamaran with 2x30hp engines down the east coast, across to New Caledonia and Vanuatu for about 4000 miles and when I came back to Australia, I changed from a 6hp to 9hp engine for the dinghy - AND THEN I HAD TO SIT A MARINE LICENCE! Fortunately I passed!!!
