@@robotcantina8957 I am sure its a combo of springs from previously engineered equiptment. Communist countries took advantage of progress from before their creation to pretend that their system was sucessful. Those were probably just washing machine springs or something from a pogo stick factory.

I"ve seen that arrangement of springs before when clearance is an issue, but more spring force is required. You can't get a 'stiffer' spring without altering the material (likely more costly), or thicker spring wire (reducing possible travel), or increasing turns (also reducing travel). SO You can just put a second spring inside and get the same effect. I'd be curious if you can even FEEL that pin with that small of a spring. I'm guessing they wanted reverse to be a significant effort to prevent a money-shift, and the linkage provides some good mechanical advantage. SO that little spring probably means you can't really feel it at all. What you did is perfectly fine for your use, though I'm not sure I would have been as proactive as you were, and likely would have just taken out the inner spring if I was concerned. THOUGH, I also probably would have done 2-3 assemble/disassemble cycles before deciding to do even that! Which is why I don't release a video every weekend :)

It was always breaking down and doing typically weird French things - but it had its charm too. We went on double dates, and learned all about battery charging. I think the next challenge for this project is to take it on a road trip with a friend or spouse. See if you can make it to Arkansas and stay with us! Negotiating the Ozark mountains might be more than the CVT can handle... but maybe not. You seem to have it sorted out.
