S4E1 Washington State Gold Mining -Blewett Pass wth Pete

Finally got a chance to share another prospecting adventure. It's been a busy year already and doesn't look like it will slow down at all. This trip is a search for new ground in the Blewett Pass area. Nice to be out and about again!

Swauk creek and Liberty are old friends of mine. I served two terms as president of the North Central Cascades Miners Assn. You are right,while president I was too busy protecting miners rights to do any mining. I did grow the Assn. though. We went from 12 members to over 60. I had a trick where i'd go phishing for new members. My mining partner owned a small foundry in Auburn and I'd use to help him dolost wax casting in a centrifuge. What gathered on the drum was brass and copper that looked alot like wire gold. So I'd break it up into pieces and throw it in the creek and along the shore. I saw a lady pan one of those one day. You could have heard her scream in town. I thought she might wet her pants. My friend Ed that ran the store in Liberty had to tell people the sad news but from that point on those people were hooked on gold mining.

You always want to place your gold pan at the bottom of your sluice when you pick your sluice out of the water.

A good spot is on the Similkameen river. Between Orville and Nighthawk in Okanogan county.

We been in similkameen now July to much water and we meet with grizzly nice place but no nuggets only microscopic flakes and we meet over there two gold prospecting peoples without success

I just want to say thank you for all of your wonderful videos.My wife and I sure would love to get put and also find gold too. I just don't know if my arthritis will let me get to some places but I know there are some easy spots to go. Pete have you even found any gold in the Puallup River? Just under 167 over pass seems to have black sand there

I have heard that there is little color there (very little), but mostly lots of black sand and light sand. Never looked myself, but anytime outside is worth the effort!

That's an Angus McKirk. I like it very much for prospecting and just bought another one a little bigger for when I absolutely don't want to break out the Highbanker. Angus Mckirk is online and you can purchase products from them or locate a local vendor. I like it because it is a little more stout that other models, but the drop riffles are real easy to clean.

How do you pick which rock to dig under?

I usually start by trying to figure where the gold path is for normal, flood, and really big flood conditions. If they are all about the same, I'll try digging a ditch across the path to find the pay streak. We were just looking to see if this area was worth spending more time on. It was and we'll be looking at it more carefully soon! Hope that helps and thanks for your question!

Club claim and we don't share locations to non-club members. Come join Bedrock Prospectors and I'll tell you all about it. We have serious issues with claim jumping so I have policies to control that.

@@dennispetersen1162 Peshastin side or Swauk ? I'm a member of WPMA and there's a claim right in the old Blewitt townsite that has good gold and yes, lots of claim jumpers cuz it's right off the hiway.

I live on the west side, but prefer the mining on the east side of the cascade crest. The high mountains are just too cool! Like the beach too and the west side when there's too much snow on the high passes tho!
