14:00 Yes, I've had this problem also. I believe it is from not having the underlying paint dried well before the top coat, like a CC. I call it 'crazing'

Nothing wrong with Chicago Electric welders. I've worked SO MANY places that used them as their machines. I'll give you some grace bc you said you're not that good at welding, but when set properly, they can more than get the job done. Pro tip, the next time you are trying to do some sheet metal welding, try to procure a few pieces of scrap the same thickness as what you are welding on, and just run some beads on that scrap making adjustments to both the wire feed and the voltage until you get something like the sound of sizzling bacon without blowing through. Keeping your nozzle at a consistent distance from the workpiece (refered to as "electrode stick-out") + your travel speed will play a factor. Go to Harbor Freight and get a pair of welding pliers also called welpers, and use them to cut your wire. If you look, they will have an offset cutting surface which works to produce the stick out your looking for. Just hold them against the nozzle and cut the wire and what you see is what you should try to maintain while running a bead. You are looking for the longest stick out that the cutting surface will allow while holding it against the nozzle..... Also, awesome progress in this video man!

Small tip, turn you welder up way more than you think and do quick spots, you can see how the welds stick up on the surface, so no penetration, more than ok for hole filling, but more cleanup lol, it's all looking great 👍👍

Problem is the welder only has 4 settings lol. Anything higher was burning through.

For painting the clearcoat you need to spray a heavy coat at the end painting ist realy that hard you need to look at what the paint does if all the droplets about to flow togheter wait 2 mins and then its one smooth service it ill look like a profesional paint job The weard bubles in the base coat could also be a bad prep mabey it didt look bad but use a paint degreaser or it coukd be what you said paint at 20 around celcius

I used my motorcycle as guinea pig to learn to paint last summer and the same thing happened to me 3 times 😂 I figured out what I was doing wrong - it was a combination of low temp, coats were too thick, and not enough time between coats.
@matt13rossСағат бұрын
Same thing here I think!
@furkanylmaz34323 сағат бұрын
The thinner ratio of the first coat of paint you put on the hood is too high, which is already evident from the fluidity of the paint you first mixed But still, you are patient, it deserves great respect, the project you are doing is my dream, I hope it will finish beautifully.

its really good what you're doing with the car. There was just one question for me that weirded me out a little: Why would you leave your Porsche or E36 in the garage when you are welding or sanding? All of the little fragments, dust, sparks, rust reformer or whatever might go onto the other car next to the E30. If you don't care that much I guess that's fine but I wouldn't do that in my world. But all in all, it's really nice seeing one of these masterpieces being restored. This also gives me some confidence to do more stuff rust related to my E46 that has some minor issues that I sort of fixed but also didnt properly fix because I don't have to equipment and we in germany don't have the option to rent out some equipment as we don't have any specific hardware stores in general :/
@matt13rossСағат бұрын
I’m not too worried about dust. Paint though, yes. I also move them out when painting.

i bet it´s a chemical response from your paint, the new paint might attack the paint below or loosen it or do something like that ... u should have put a barrier like epoxy primer over the complete engine bay ( you should have done it anyway or sand the whole thing to bare metall because the guy before did such a poor job, i am sure he did not sand or/and clean proberly so this might cause some issues in the future ...) however, much better than before!
