Matt, when you were cleaning the engine with the sump off your washing, all kinds of fine, debris into the engine casings, and blowing out the holes of air hoses into the engine cases, you really need to flush the engine avenging flasher, and then change your filter before you run it up with fresh oil and a new filter

you might want to put in some proper lubricant inside the other engine if you are planning on storing it for longer as straight wd-40 won't prevent rust from forming as it evaporates quickly and its purpose is to displace water and not to lubricate. it is usually used for cleaning of the parts but not to grease them.

The reason I mainly use youtube is the fact that I can see many of the “shows” i regularly see within an hour. With a 15 min video I get 4 shows on an hour. With KZbins new algorithm the videos has gone up to 40+ The result is that I skip through the videos instead of just enjoying them. Keep em short and sweet👌 15-20 is the sweet spot on this kind of video.

Less is more with sealers… you don’t want it squishing out and getting in the oil system. Consider using an anaerobic sealer, any squished sealer is just washed/wiped away and cannot affect the oil system etc.

Really enjoying this series of videos! Just did the rod bearings on my s54 as well. Noticed you didn't use the ARP Stretch Gauge when torquing the rod bolts. Did you just go by the ARP instructions at 70 ft-lbs instead? Lots of sources say that 70 isn't actually enough to get the correct stretch and to add a bit more. But without the gauge it would be impossible to tell for sure.
@matt13ross26 күн бұрын
I did 70 lbs per instructions and the plasti gage read perfect at that torque
@pieterverboven485323 күн бұрын
@@matt13ross From what I've seen on ther channels when doing rod bearings (M539 for example) you should use the old rod bolts when doing the plastic gauge reading, the way you did it you stretched your new ARP bolts to spec and untighten them to check plasti gauge then retighten?

@beardedrynorallyteam26 күн бұрын
@@matt13rossif you haven’t changed it, based off of how it looks at time stamp 42:00, it’s definitely upside down. The ground strap goes forward to the ground on the frame rail a few inches behind the radiator. Also the bottom where the motor mount stud goes through (your current top) is flat while the real top is a small cavity.

Awesome vids man. Only one piece of advice... Don't use your torque wrench to loosen bolts, you'll throw it out of spec.
@jamest5149Ай бұрын
My opinion is ‘smoother’ and ‘less friction’ is a marketing strategy, plain bearings run on a film of oil and should never contact bearing surface to crank bearing face, you have much bigger problems with clearance or oil supply if the bearings are being contacted… the main thing that damages plain bearings is high revs and loads when the oil hasn’t reach operating temperature… cars&coffee / youtube rev’s when cold are a terrible idea and will cost you. I am not saying the bearings are bad, basically any bearing if sized correctly and treated properly (oil temp, rev’s, load etc) will be a good choice, including the OEM bearings.
