S550 Mustang GT DRIFT TIPS! How to stay out of those crowds :)

This mustang gt is 100% stock and I decided to try drifting this gt. Overall, it is a bit tricky drifting a brand new car that is set up for grip but it is possible. I wanted to throw out a few tips to help keep you out of the crowds and ditches. I absolutely love this PP2 mustang and thrilled to get it a little sideways. Oh cool! Just a heads up. I have had a couple of mustangs in my time. And they tend to sometime speed up faster than usual. So sometimes irregular acceleration speed. So be careful if your coming out of a parking lot. Currently I have have GT Shelby 500. And trust me it’s a good car. Just try to be comfortable around enclosed spaces. But good luck in trying to buy a beast called the Mustang. ✌🏻✌🏻

I just want to say I've had a 2018 mustang gt since January and I'm having such a skill issue with swinging it. It really loves to just spin out and lose control.. compared to the 3v s197 platform I had before its quite difficult to master. Probably a combination of the electronic steering, increased power, Wright distribution differences, and suspension changes... totally different animal

Very interesting and well-made video. Seems like the car has a ton of power but also a ton of grip. Quick question: if you're not clutch kicking, just turn in and full throttle, the car won't lose grip in the back? (TCS off of course)

John Smith hey man, thanks! So if you don’t want to clutch kick, it can still step out. Just depends on tire setup and surface, etc. obviously with an auto you can’t clutch kick. You just don’t want to turn and full throttle and start under steering lol. Then immediately let off if you start understeering hard haha

I like what you said about the electronic steering I have a 2017 gt ppk my issue is when I turn off the traction control adv trck off the car fights me and try’s to correct it self does yours do that

Disconnect the the harness near the driver side fender wall nannies will be completely off holding it down does completely turn it off that why u feel the car fighting you

Need a driver like this for this car. Cause the small children slide JDM cars and they say they are good driver. A true professional driver can drift such a difficult car cause the wheelbase is too long and it's even difficult to drift that.

the last point you made at the end is something i noticed when watching people drift mustangs, they really have to muscle the wheel around while nissans the wheel seems to float whichever direction you need it to and you just catch it, i wonder can you just replace the steering rack?

Electric rack is the cause. I know adding caster can help with self-steer.

Manual is highly preferred. Get a cheap E36 or E46 to learn to drift. I have more vids on those

I can do drifts in automatic its basically no clutch kicking but instead powering into it and also handbrake turns. you dont need a manual trans to drift, I have a automatic mustang

It doesn't have an independent rear suspension. It's on leaf springs.

How much self-steer actually IS there? I mean when you go to initiate the drift to you have to completely put the wheel where you want it or does it self-steer at all?

Definitely not a lot of self-steer. I own a 2018. Keep steering in comfort mode and unplug the "dyno plug" under the hood. I'm making a video on it, now.

@@minusdarkslide Hah, I actually ended up taking my 2017 to a parking lot in the rain to give it a go, there's not a lot of self steer but there's enough to feel where you should be pointing the wheels. I was in the rain too, so I imagine there's a bit more self-steer when it's dry out in sport steering mode.

@@scope81 Not sport steering. It's too stiff for drifting. Use comfort and unplug the dyno plug and you'll get much better feel.

Guys i need help with my traction mode ,i have a 2018 mustange 5.0 , but still idk how to deactivate traction mode fully so i can , i tried holding it for 10 sec it only turn off for a period of time then it turns back on by itself, any idea?

@@hondaep3813 miatas are well balanced, thats itself is enough to drift. make that stock mustang 600whp and it still wont drift, unless u do drivetrain/suspension mods

@@jspeedracing to really turn off traction and stability control on S550s you must unplug the dyno plug. Its by your CAI box. Should have a yellow and green wire sticking out of it I think. They unplug it to get better dyno readings from what I hear. Only seen one video on this and would love to see someone test it out more.

Good news you can still drift you mustang. Put in S mode and use the paddle in first or second gear.
