Good video, love the banter, post ride debrief is priceless, and universal I think when looking power and speed of others you ride with. I think first timers underestimate getting the top of the drop down to the port. Even the bit from the Repsol garage.....You wouldn't want to do it any later in the day than you did it, heat and buses coming back up. Great content.

Been looking at some of your Zwift races and comments this winter here on YT, as a low-ish A rider myself. I have been climbing Sa Calobra as well, mid March this year. Started together with my son and our cycling guide, taking turns at the front. When our guide dropped, my son thought it was time to go full out so he dropped me instantly. I thought it was a very nice climb to dose your efforts, pretty regular, no real nasty bits. 36m45 is a good time and kind of what I would have expected based on your Zwift races. Taking around 2mins off is possible, some protection from the wind in a smallish group will bring you close already. You'd be faring a bit better on the Strava leaderboards on Puig Major though as it's less steep. Thanks for the video, fun to watch and makes me want to go back there already.

great time up Sa Calobra, I remember doing Sa Calobra for the 1st time in the early 90 ,Pinarello Treviso steel bike 1st edition Dura Ace STI , pre strava , with a 6 day track pro , on the climb he was chilling HR 130 bpm , me at + 160 bpm ( got a natural low HR ) , yeah Pros are on a coffee ride when riding with us mortals

@@thewattlife I usually keep my watts a little more even, but you're definitely right about pushing harder on the steeper bits. It's a real life application of the Einstein car riddle. Only reason I try to keep my watts a little more even is to also make sure my HR stays in check.

I was a bit clueless on riding this but a 30 min power PB was probably the best result I could have hoped for!

I enjoyed this climb too much to actually do it full gaz. I'm not much of a descender but descending it early morning with no traffic was an incredible roller coaster.

I thought the Garmin Edge was a phone lying on the table the size of it. BSC300 is a great bang for your buck head unit, easy to use and has a very good battery life especially considering the colour display. Nice effort on the climb too!
@thewattlife5 ай бұрын
Yeah, I have an Edge 1040 & it’s great- climb pro, Strava segments push through to the unit in real time, all sorts of other features. But realistically I only really need 1/4 of what it offers. So for £120-140 the IGPSport is awesome

Great effort! I'm heading out in June to try and go sub-hour.. I suspect it's going to be hot! What camera strap are you using and do you have any tips for making sure your camera doesn't get sweaty?

Great video mate, enjoyed watching that. Great time too. My PB is a 36:43! A whole 2 seconds faster. I’m over there in 3 days time and I’m aiming for a sub-35. Hopefully the training pays off!

Awesome- well, if my plan comes together I’ll be back out there too so make sure you keep that in the back of your mind when you’re going for sub 35, I’ll be coming for those extra 2 seconds and then some… 😜

Excellent job. Very jealous. I did Sa Calobra at the end of June in the middle of the day, like a total idiot. Suffice to say I went pop and only just got under 40 min. So got unfinished business with the 🐍

Ha I can only imagine how hot that was. We got a bit lucky as being March it was quite cool but definitely warmed up closer to the top. We literally did it at 1pm so would have been cooked later in the year

Great Vid. Cantt wait to get out there and smash a PB this time next year. Looking for sub 40 mins. If you do t mi d me asking, roughly what w/kg would your effort work out at please? Just looking at what I would need for a similar time!
@thewattlife5 ай бұрын
So I’m about 78kg- I had two biddons and my bike is roughly 7.9kg. Plus I had my tool kit and camera etc. So I could have been lighter. I held 308 watts which is about 3.9 w/kg for body weight. Not far off 4. I still feel like I’m carrying some winter weight as not doing long 5-7 hr days out on the bike as uk weather has been horrible
@mikeyblue2a5 ай бұрын
@thewattlife thanks for getting back! Very similar weights to me, so I know what sort of power I need to be pushing. Reckon I am about 30w shy at the minute. Something to work towards. Looking forward to the full segment vid. Will keep me motivated when I'm doing sessions on the turbo trainer!!

Nice effort, I would like to do under 40mins next time I go if I get the chance for a flat out attempt. Your power is higher than I can do though, curious as to your weight if that's not overly personal 😱.
@thewattlife5 ай бұрын
Sure man- so im about 78kg when i did this. Thought i would be lighter but a dark winter hit hard. My bike is 7.9kg. So i definitely wasnt running as light as i could be and at the end of the summer i imagine i would be a lot lighter.
@andyedwards78005 ай бұрын
So you are about 8kg heavier but bike a kg or so lighter....under 40 should be doable
