The aunt is smirking like that because she's convinced that the niece is lying and she's about to reveal the "truth" to everyone on live TV. She resents the niece for the drama and trauma the nieces revelation caused, and believes the offender is innocent and had no choice but to take the charges to avoid the stress and trauma of a trial. That is why "I'm not going to say a damned thing" is honestly the smartest, most self-aware thing she could have said. Drugs might be involved but honestly this looks and sounds more like a classic case of mental illness, self-delusion, and probably not the highest level of mental or emotional intelligence on the aunts part in the first place.

I wish they gave her a lie detector test to see if she knew the abuse was going on. She couldn’t give any legitimate answer to why she didn’t believe her and her excuses just seem like she was still trying to have her claim make sense in her own head. She knew he was guilty and I want to know how far that guilt goes. I strongly believe that the *”family member”* is her uncle. Apparently he pled so he could see his grandchildren grow up, he had easy access to both children underneath her care, she is so utterly unrealistically defensive of him, but the biggest indicator? Steve asks what she’s going to do and you can tell he’s expecting it to make something that’s going to change her life. She doesn’t seemed phased so he says “how would you life your coffee / eggs” which would seem like he’s living with her.

This one makes me cry. I can very much relate to Sommer. I was sexually abused as a child, but I didn't come forward until I was in my early 20s. By then my abuser(my own mother) had passed unexpectedly several years prior. I was not believed by many when I first disclosed. I was surprised to fine my sister as an ally. She never witnessed the abuse, but she said that given what she DID witness that it was like puzzle pieces lined up and she could see it. While a few other family DID also believe and have stood by me, my father has recently questioned if it was real, and that has reopened old wounds for me that I spent 8 years working on in therapy. The way Sommer was treated by her family who wanted to stand by her abuser is not right. I'm so happy for her that she had the bravery to be on the show and prove her story. One thing I wish others knew about disclosing sexual assault/abuse... people who have been victims/survivors of such abuse often have much much more to lose by telling our stories. Losing family becomes a new extension of the abuse we have already been put through. And look at Sommer when confronted by her aunt, who is accusing her of changing her story. You get attacked from all sides just by trying to tell what happened to you. It's like there is no relief. My own abuser on the surface appeared like a great person, and was very well liked by family and the community in general. It's like she could hide in plain sight.

People ALWAYS say “they never touched anyone else”. These people typically single out one individual.
@jadegreen15546 ай бұрын
Never ask a child: “why did you never tell anyone?” Grooming is the reason. Grooming is where the predator hijacks a victim’s (adult or child) brain for them to believe they “chose” the abuse to their own self, their own brain does not work to protect them, and they use multiple tactics to scare and swear the victim to SILENCE. It wasn’t a successful grooming if the victim is not SILENT. Silence is the cornerstone of grooming and assault. Learn about grooming. If someone is too “friendly” with your child or adult friend, showering with praises, gifts, compliments, big personality, ask the difficult questions. You’re probably dealing with a sexual predator. They’re the most charming. They groom the entire community around the victim.

Anyone who has endured SA should be understanding and encouraging, not disgusting like this! The fact he pled guilty is an admittance of guilt, I can't believe how stupid the family were. It is a life sentence, something you can't forget and 45+ years later no one else knows because of how I was brought up. Both my parents went to their graves without knowing but it's something I live with, the guilt, the shame, the feeling of being dirty and not worthy. I always believe a child who said she/he was molested. These monsters are capable at hiding their evil side. So happy he went to jail.

This definitely made me cry 😢 my situation wasn’t a family member but one of my best friends father and I told my dad and he did not believe me he was more upset that the police department was calling his phone lol once my own father didn’t believe me I told the police I wanted to drop the charges (I was 15) I felt like if my father didn’t believe me how will anyone else 🥹 that really stuck with me my whole life so I totally understand Sommers pain

That evil thing in purple needs to go to jail, get off drugs and leave Summer alone. Trying to hug her and Summer telling her to get away from her was the best thing she could’ve done to her! When that evil thing said yeah she going to ask the pedo how he wants his eggs cooked? Wtf? She won’t say anything to him cause he’s guilty af! Keep all kids away from him. I hope his grandkids are away from him. He shouldn’t be around any kids at all. I hope Summer can get the help she needs now more than ever. Thank you Steve for brining Summer some closure if that’s part of what she needs.

For the better and for the most part Sommer wasn't lying about the fact that she was really molested she took the Lie-Detector Test and told the dame TRUTH hopefully she will be able to protect her own child now that she's a young mother now as well 14:40
@Naturefan3546 ай бұрын
Yes but lie detector tests are only 1 piece of circumstantial evidence, they are NOT a smoking gun. They are only also 60%-70% accurate they aren't 99.9% accurate either

Episodes like these hit hard for me. I cannot tell you how much I want to go on this show to show my cousin that her brother SA'd me as a child. That woman has slut-shamed me, called me names, threatened my life, etc. Other family members have told me to let it be, but I'm just in a rage. This woman is an entitled princess who needs to be shown that I didn't make it up. This happened when I was 9 years old and stopped at 12 years old. I'm 31 years old and my story has NEVER changed. Over the years, I've started to remember more instances, which makes some family members doubt me. The kicker is he has a mental disability and we're the same age. However, he was more exposed to sexxual things that I was. I was raised in a household where sex talk was forbidden.

I'm sorry for what happened to you, you didn't deserve to suffer. It would be a good idea to go on the show, to expose your cousin's brother and let your family, including your cousin, know that you are right.

The fact that Trisha tried to act like she was shocked and disgusted by the results while looking like she may have been on drugs was enough to know she wasn't really a good aunt to begin with then to add salt to the wound you say you remember what happened to you everyone processes abuse differently and some people blak it out completely until they have therapy but to not believe her after you claim to have been a victim yourself is Ludacris asf
@firetiger5826 ай бұрын
My own mother says she is sexual abuse victim. But when I told her her husband that has been around most of my life did things to me she refused to believe me because I was 18 or older at the time and i refused to go to the police. . I was getting away from him (thank God I didn't live with him. He did some things online that got us kids taken away at a very young age. ) but the moment I refused to go to the police she told everyone I was lying about everything.... to this day she refuses to believe even though she would accuse him/me of things every day multiple times a day.

@tanishamuntslag63696 ай бұрын
I'm glad the girl had her mom by her side the whole time. That's a true mother right there.screw the rest of the family for not being able to handle the truth.just cuz it's your family member and the person is nice does not mean it's impossible for them to be capable of such a thing. She was a child when it happened and children are not able to make up tgings like that

When I told my parents that a so called family friend sexually abused me they didn’t believe me. They said I must have misunderstood something and he wouldn’t do that. I was crushed to not be believed. Then about 10 years later something happened between my parents and him and my Mom and Dad told me that they believe me now because they know what type of person he is after all. I felt validated ❤❤❤
