Many times if they have lack of evidence. No DNA or visual trauma to the child and no other witnesses to the crime they normally drop the case. It's not that the police don't believe the child it's just that without a confession and with no other evidence the courts would let him off. Too many times if they took it to court with no evidence he'd be found not guilty because it can't be proven and no one wants to traumatize the child further by putting them on the stand. If found not guilty they can't prosecute him again so often times the perp walks until another victim comes forward or they slip up. Either way I wish them luck and I too hope he's in prison.

I'm always immediately suspicious when it's someone not even related to the family. Because if it's like a custody issue I could see someone lying to try to get custody or ruin the other person. But this is literally just some family friend they have nothing to gain from falsely accusing him

There’s a huge difference between being cleared and not having enough evidence for an arrest. Cops need to close cases.
