*Edit* I started with a 1/16th drill bit and moved up to a 1/8th bit. Sorry for the confusion, I kept repeating a 1/8th. Feel free to ask any further questions.

Beau Lamper okay so I'm wanting to change my shift knob to a weighted one, my biggest issue is the reverse lock that goes up into the shifter.

Did you get an aftermarket knob that is specific to a 2003-2007 Saab 9-3 with a manual transmission? I don't know anything about aftermarket knobs on the 9-3's as the knob itself has to have a female-like rib/spline on the bottom side to recess into the shift lever. I think as long as you can keep the spring installed between the reverse lockout and new knob you'll be fine though.

The only one that says its for a Saab that I can find is an Oem one and its 100$. The mustang gt has the same kind of reverse lockout mechanism I may try getting one for that and trying it out

thatokieguy I have one for sale that's OEM used in great condition for $75 on eBay. You'll have to double check and make sure the mustang one will fit, I've never heard of someone in the 9-3 community using a mustang shift knob. I though you were going to use a weighted one?
@thatokieguy61916 жыл бұрын
Beau Lamper the weighted one doesn't have a special cut out for the lockout so it won't fit on the shifter itself

Nice and straight forward. Got it off in a few minutes. Thanks!

Excellent video. It works, but I had epoxy glued the knob so it was not moveable by this screw. The top portion of the knob is only 1/8 inch thick before it touches the shaft. The knob is made of soft white metal, providing the screw little bite to pull the knob off the shaft. So I used methylene solvent , dribbled down the shaft, as an epoxy softener. Let it sit overnight, and used a bearing puller to pull the know out. Slick. Thank you.

Hello!, I have a 2006 Saab 9-3 b207R 5MT SC, and from my understanding of all the diagrams and manuals Ive read, plus hands on with the shifter, the actual main shaft shifting lever that the reverse lockout sits on is a solid bar correct? The lockout ring and spring assembly simply slides up and down the main shaft that runs to the ball in the cradle mount. So, do you think its possible to just drill out and thread/tap a 1/4 or 3/8 hole into the actual action lever top? Then buy any generic 1/20 pitch shit knob on the planet? If female to female go to a hardware store and cut down a tiny length of rod? Ive done wheels and tires, exhaust, intake, and intercooler at this point, but now i want to do some comfort things. Im willing to try, im just not sure about whether or not the shaft is hollow or solid. Thanks!

From what I remember the shaft itself is solid..aluminum I do believe. You're correct about the reverse lockout ring and spring, you would have to have the same height bottom-of-the-knob for it to work though if that makes sense, otherwise the return spring won't work properly. The shaft itself that the knob recesses in to is splined/ribbed so if your attempt to modify it to threads is unsuccessful you'll sort of be crap out of luck. Hope this helps.

Działa w 100% ten sposób! Polecam jakby ktoś miał wątpliwości. Wystarczy nawiercić i wkręcić śrubkę. Nie trzeba gwintować. Ameleninium jest miekkie i śrubka sama sobie zrobi gwint.

Hi I was wondering how you get the new shift knob back on. Do you tap it down with a rubber mallet?
@beaulamper35585 жыл бұрын
That's exactly what I did, I went slow and smooth with it and didn't hurt the new knob or shift pattern upper silver piece.

@@beaulamper3558 thanks for your reply. I'm getting ready ready to replace my 2007 9-3 shifter and I have seen other videos where people really struggle getting it off. I like that you did it following the most logical way. Thanks again
