Viewing your channel for the first time. Nice video, I'll be doing the fuel filter feplacement on my 03 Aero Wagon this coming weekend as well.
@TrionicSeven8 жыл бұрын
Good luck! I would recommend having a few largish spanners so you can get counterhold on the fuel filter (measure on the new fuel filter) when releasing the bolts.

Any chance you will make a video on cutting floor out of bio fuel to get it without drop tank? or vid explain what a bio fuel is ? Why does it sound like my bio fuel should be able to run vegetable oil??

I work as a mechanic. I have a 01 9-3 convertible. saab is one of the only makes that calls to change the fuel filter at a interval. is there any reasoning behind it? we don't normally see failed fuel filters on cars. If you use products like BG 44k which cleans the fuel system including the filter. Does one really need to change the fuel filter?
@TrionicSeven8 жыл бұрын
The fuel filter fills up with crud after some time and often also rusts out, leaking fuel. So yes, you need to change the filter. I find it strange that there are vehicles without a fuel filter change interval!
@cbp13578 жыл бұрын
+Trionic Seven yea. most cars we work on mercedes, Toyota, honda, and BMW (although bmw breaks down all the time :P) don't call for fuel filter change for any major service. I'm going to go ahead and change mine at my next service 130K miles and just count it as part of the 120k service I have done over the time I got the car at 121K. previous owners had the fuel filter changed at 60K. lol. then you have people like my friend who has a 99 9-3 convertible and she never had the fuel filter changed and she's at 150K miles.
@TrionicSeven8 жыл бұрын
At least in the Saab 9-5, the fuel pump tends to die too early, and a clogged fuel filter makes the pump work harder and die prematurely.
@cbp13578 жыл бұрын
+Trionic Seven yea. I should probably change the fuel filter on my friends 9-3. she is going to pay me to fix it up. So I'll add that to her list.

capang9555 is the diesel filter in the same place?
@simonvs54018 жыл бұрын
okay i see how you did it ! But didn't you remove the fuel pump fuse first ?? Because if you don't all the pressurized fuel will come out when you try to remove the old filter right ?
@TrionicSeven8 жыл бұрын
Yeah, removing the fuse is a good idea, however I didn't do it and as you can see, there was no problem with fuel shooting out.

@VioleNFaN8 жыл бұрын
You should run the engine and then remove fuse number 15 or 19 (depends on MY) to reduce the fuel pressure before you do this operation. And it seems like you need new back brakes...

I have a 2004 9-5 sedan unfortunately it chugs and i think it may be caused by this or the fuel pump.
@ned9004 жыл бұрын
Just finished this job. I had to attach jump leads to my 4x4 and run the 4x4 at high revs to help the saab battery because it took the engine 5 minutes to pull the fuel from the tank to the engine block So the car was just turning and turning for ages before it started.

How often this filter should be changed?
@shakalpb11648 жыл бұрын
So to change the fuel filter on an Biopower Saab is impossible? because all I was able to find on EPC is that it uses a Charcoal canister as "Filter".
@TrionicSeven8 жыл бұрын
It's not supposed to be replaced. That filter is inside the tank, so you need to drop the tank. The charcoal canister is for the evap system, it's not a fuel filter.

Would you be able to do a front/rear wheel bearing change? Would be interesting to see.
@TrionicSeven8 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure if I'm capable of replacing bearings myself. If I had to replace the wheel bearings I would probably give it to a professional with a press.

Trionic Seven: For Saab Enthusiasts Ok no worries. Thought it was pretty easy to do (from my knowledge of other cars)

Wheel bearings can be easy, but in case of rust and corrosion it can be very difficult.

@TrionicSeven8 жыл бұрын
Maptun lowering springs, 25mm lower than stock Aero height!
@rookm138 жыл бұрын
thanks for the quick response, my aero wagon is about 17 mm between the tire and fender. i guess i need new springs since the inner tire started to wear out.
@TrionicSeven8 жыл бұрын
The wagons eat rear shocks, I'd start with them.
@olofanderberg93928 жыл бұрын
The shocks doesn't determine the ride hight, change springs and get an alignment done!

you could actually use 2 open end spanners. Seen it done at the mechanics place lots of times on my previous classic 900. One holding the filter, another to break open the bolt. Both on the same end though, not like how you did it with the box socket at one end and the spanner at the other end. found it on twinsaabs here. www.twinsaabs.com/9-5_repair/fuel_filter/fuel_filter.asp
@TrionicSeven8 жыл бұрын
Yep, I should have done it that way, however I didn't have a large enough spanner to fit over the filter.
@desmondkhoo16118 жыл бұрын
time to invest in an adjustable one! :)
@Heinz1zwei4 жыл бұрын
Never ever put the jack stand there. There are marks pointed out where to put them. If you put them whereever you feel like there's a high risk of bent metal and premature rust.
@Tunttis8 жыл бұрын
You should use USIT-washers (two per side, 4 in total). Atleast that's what the factory used.
@TrionicSeven8 жыл бұрын
I got the washers directly from my Saab dealer
@Tunttis8 жыл бұрын
That's quite strange. I checked the EPC and partnumbers for washers are: 4161162 and 4443883 and they are not copper washers. If I remember correctly last time I changed the fuel filter with OEM (Bosch) it did come with copper washers but they are not correct.
@TrionicSeven8 жыл бұрын
I had no idea about this, but the experienced Saab techs assured me they were the right washers.
