My convertible has the updated wiring but the certain pins on the connector still heated up from high resistance. I think this becomes more common with even a slight amount of corrosion, which is often the case with convertibles due to seepage around or through the tops or retracting the top when it is still damp. Solution: LED bulbs. My recollection is that I replaced all of the 1156 and 1157 (dual filament) bulbs and it's been fine for years. I think there's also a smaller bulb, maybe a #67 in there that I didn't replace.

Can you recommend LED bulbs I can find for the rear brake lights and indicators - can't find anything in the motor stores in Sweden

Get a 12 volt test light or use a digital multimeter and make sure you are getting voltage to the cluster. Break pedal should energize the brake circuit, reverse the reverse circuit, etc. Test each bulb in its socket by using a 9volt battery or using a jumper to the associated metal trace on the cluster. Someone else mentioned using LED bulbs, I have also swapped them all out, front, rear, and all the dashboard lights as well. Good advice.

Also, test the earth for continuity. With LEDs if there is CANBUS, it sometimes throws issues

Will get to it asap! I recall doing this last year when the issue first came up - and all checked out ok - I guess I could have missed something ! Will tests again ! Thanks

I'm getting 5-6volts off the rear lights socket

Check the harness around the rear seat area for breaks or shorts in the wiring. I've known wires to weaken around the bends in the harness.

I too have a 92 convertible I'm trying to fix thanks for the videos I'll probably ask you questions later on.

I had a lot of trouble with the brake light switch at the pedal, and also with the light switch which broke inside. It cannot be ruled out that two errors exist at the same time. Also look at the diagram for a place joining both brake and driving lights to the rear and then find the corresponding connector or line.

I've had a lot of responses saying if the centre spoiler brake light is working that it can't be a fault at the pedal switch ?

@@theclassicsaabguy236 Correct - didn't see that. But Measure signal all the way from battery over switch to lamp. Also check EVERY ground connection. I have had the strangest things happen because a seemingly unrelated ground connection was corroded. They must be blank - there is a list over them in the Bentley's Manual.

@@ursusskandia thanks for the tips - I'll get on it as soon as I can !

Hi ,nice content, i recommend pine hollow diagnostics on youtube, very helpfull and best source imo...my old volvo was cured by spraying wd 40 on the brake pedal contact...maybe its 2 different problems occuring at same time, as mentioned in the comments, good luck, from bob Belgium, saab 85

Just had the same issue crop up on my 9k, no running lights or dashboard lighting, but brake, indicator, fog and reverse all work. It's wierd and annoying !

Yeah it's not as straight forward as a mechanical failure - very frustrating when it comes to electrics !
