Hey there I am 19 years old at the moment and I fell in love with the 900, and looking to buy one to drive as my daily.
@12dougreed16 күн бұрын
My old 900 turbo two door coupé was 100% perfect. Not a spot of rust , the engine was spotless in and out due to synthetic oil. That's until I traded it in for a 9000 turbo The mechanic from the dealership who bought it had obviously no idea or pride in owning such an immaculate car. Within six months it looked like a heap in and out . I have found fitters ( that's all they are these days) never look after anything.

Anyone know where I can get new rear brake calipers for a 1991 Saab 900i?
@KamalSinnoАй бұрын
My father had 1994 Saab 900s didn’t have the light in the mid rear section as this. He bet on it and it stayed in my face all the way from my teenage years to adult years. I learned how to drive on my own with it. Best car ever, and knowing what Saab stands for I loved it more than my neighbors loved their bmws and Benz. I am rented to buy one as I love older cars more than the current ones. All new cars are becoming less safe at least to me, smaller windshields and windows due to front and rear cameras, at some point they will become coffins on wheels. I am thinking of buying one if I can find a good clean used one like this, or the 9-3 2001 2.0 version as that’s when they introduced the 2.0 petroleum v4 compared to 2.4 v4 in earlier makes. Would you recommend buying this in upcoming 2025? I like the 9000cse but the 900s has a huge boot and for my work as a videographer I feel it’s better to have more cargo space.
@theclassicsaabguy236Ай бұрын
I would actually look for the later OG 9-3 - which is the same shape as the NG 900 mostly but has a lot of upgrades and prices aren't much more than the older 900. I have a 2001 OG 9-3 myself and it's the best of that era in my opinion. Of course if you can find a late model 9000cse that would trump any NG 900 or OG 9-3 and has a much bigger hatchback load space ! Bigger the the 9-5 wagon in fact !

@ I’m from Lebanon no the uk, most of Saabs are automatic very few are manual transmission. Any advice on what to watch out for in an auto gearbox?
@theclassicsaabguy236Ай бұрын
@@KamalSinno The new-generation Saab 900 (NG900) with an automatic gearbox, especially those made from the mid-nineties, can have a few known issues, though overall, it’s considered reliable if properly maintained. Here are the main points to watch out for: 1. Transmission Fluid: These gearboxes are sensitive to old or low-quality transmission fluid. Regular changes with the correct spec ATF are crucial to avoid slipping or rough shifting. 2. Shift Solenoids: Problems with shift solenoids can cause erratic or delayed shifting. It’s not uncommon, but it’s usually fixable without a full rebuild. 3. Torque Converter: Some users reported issues with the torque converter causing vibrations or failing over time. This might present as a shudder or slipping sensation. 4. Cooling System: The transmission relies on the radiator for cooling, so any cooling system issues (like clogs or leaks) can lead to overheating, which is a quick way to damage the gearbox. 5. Electrical Connections: With age, wiring or connectors for the transmission can corrode, leading to problems that mimic mechanical failure. If you’re considering one, check the service history to see if the transmission fluid has been regularly changed. You could also take it for a test drive and feel for smooth shifts under light and heavy acceleration.

This is very interesting, thank you for sharing. I’m looking to retrofit a catalytic converter to my 1994 Toyota Landcruiser (1FZ petrol engine). These were sold in Australia without any catalytic converters, apparently due to a loophole in the law as they were classed as a light truck. My goal is to reduce the lawnmower smell of the current exhaust.

IMO the 99 was the best looking and best proportioned of all the Saab's. I had one for a few years back in the early 1990's, metallic bronze with turbo wheels and it was bullet proof. Took it on a 2000 mile round trip from South Wales to do a tour of Scotland and it didn't miss a beat. I've always fancied getting the turbo model but prices have been out of my reach.

Not bad cars and my 900NG was my daily for many years before sold and later scrapped. For me the 900OG was the last "true" saab, then it went downhill pretty fast and look where they are today...

I drove a classic 900 for years and have access to a 1999 9-3 convertible. The 9-3 has a 2l softturbo and the 4speed Auto box what makes it a super comfy cruiser. But ride and handling make the 9-3 (which was already improved to the 900 NG) a much much less involving and enjoyable ride. The classic 900 was simply the best handling front wheel drive car of its time. And the successor just couldn’t match. How can you present a new car that handles worse than its predecessor without damaging the brand!?

Hi, I have been driving a Saab 9000. Some years ago already (ouch, getting older..). When I had that marvelous car, I stumbled upon an article from somebody, who had been 'refurbishing' his 9000. He took out the back seat and made it into a little van. That is to say: he had to darken the back side windows. I am living in The Netherlands and in those days, you could drive a 'grey' license. Meaning: when you have a van, or a car with no back seats, made into a little van, you could go for a special license. A normal registration had a yellow colour, this one was grey. Hence the name. In this way, the taxes you had to pay for the car, were substantial less. Alas, I cannot remember where I read it, maybe it was in the magazine of the Saab Club. I was thinking to do the same, but then my wife got pregnant😀

The classic 900 was looking it's age but it's distinctiveness was unforgettable, the NG was still a fine car and I personally would be happy with one. The 9000 was far too Conservative for my liking, it looked like any other executive car, best ignored tbh. My all time favourite though was the 99, biggest mistake of my life was selling it, the only thing that really irritated my was the roof liner ( what were Saab thinking?). The 9-3's were beautiful both generations so GM weren't all bad really. It was a travesty letting Saab go to the wall, fuck sake, the Swedish government should have nationalised the manufacturer and sold it off when the time was right
