i have a problem with my car and if you can help me i would appreciate it.i have the saab 9-3 2008 2.0T aero convertible and i have the maptun stage 2 program.the car starts normally,its idle is perfect and i don’t have any error codes.the only problem is that sometimes the boost isn’t enough.when everything is ok,the turbo meter at full speed goes to the middle of the red lines and the car is very fast.but sometimes car is slow at all rpm phase and at full speed the turbo meter is at the start of the red lines.another thing that i noticed is that i don’t hear the turbines blow off sound anymore.do you have any ideas what the problem is?thanks!

Also just done this on my saab aero I've got recently, valve was completely knackered on this one and didn't restrict blowing or sucking. Car ran good before so didn't expect a faulty one as it was just another pre-emptive repair but now idle feels better and more responsive at low revs.

Hey, thanks! the Saab is getting some love this year. I've just got an Ice Blue rear bumper (08 on) from Ron and have the car booked in to a classics restorer to sort the rear arches. It's just had a new clutch at malcolm Miles in Leicester and will be going back there to have the head swapped out (for an Abbott racing head I picked up) later in the summer. These are jobs i either can't do because I smashed a shoulder in a few years back, or I haven't got the equipment. I've still got plenty of videos in the planning, fret not.

Engineering some type of oil catch can into this circuit would be great, I wonder if some type of simple filter element placed before the inlet/inlets? under the cam cover would reduce oil working its way into the inlet manifold?

Love yor tips cyd, and followed a lot of them, particularly the solid mounts two pack compound. On the pcv issue, it's not good for an engine to burn Oily crankcase gases As it lowers the octane rating of the fuel in the cylinder when burning,, Besides slowly building a residue. I know mfgrs do it to lower emissions as one of the reasons. For two months now on my petrol aero, I have been running the engine With bypassed pcv, and a catch can. The engine runs fine, with no starting issues, idling is probably better, The only noticeable drawback is Occasionally I get a slight whiff of Engine burn in the cabin. Other than that, no problems.
@CycloneCyd
@CycloneCyd Жыл бұрын
Ultimately a catch can is the best solution, provided the residue is properly disposed of (unlikely to happen in most cases). In any case, if the engine is in good condition, you shouldn't be getting much oiliness through the pcv.

hello, was wondering if it is possible to test the PCV in the SAAB b207 engine without removing the inlet manifold? if so what is the tool or process. ask as though I don't have the symptoms I had a nes PCV put in abot 45k ago as previous one failed and I had leaks in many places. since the replacement of the PCV I have had to replace the turbo as it was passing oil and there is no evidence of the PCV being replaced when turbo was replaced though oil was evident in the pipes to the inlet manifold
@sampie2611
@sampie2611 Жыл бұрын
I probably should look into this. Aero is burning oil (about 1ltr/3000km) and seems to be going down on power slowly without misfires and such... Boost leakage through PCV could explain it

These engines are prone to leaks too. Again, often caused by boost leaks through the PCV

Could a faulty PCV valve be the cause of the throttle body getting gummed up? I got a P2135 fault code (& limp mode). Cleaning throttle body cured it for a while but as it kept returning I eventually replaced the throttle body. This cured it for about 9k miles but the code's returned.

Hi Cyd, on some forums people say that it is safe to block inlet pcv hole( saab, cobalt forums), it stops oil getting in manifold and loosing oil and boost... Adding oil catch can on turbo side baffle helps too. Do you think it is safe to do that?

@CycloneCyd Жыл бұрын
NO, don't do that.
@caractacusbrittania7442
@caractacusbrittania7442 Жыл бұрын
@@CycloneCyd hi cyd, can you expand a little on your reply. I understand that pcv systems on cars were designed to reduce emissions and help the environment, But it is surely factual that combustion without octane lowering Oily and carbon heavy crankcase gases, would make a cleaner burning engine. A catch can fitted would safely remove what would have been burnt in the cylinders. Just interested on your take on that.

I’m trying to bypass the ignition switch on my 06 Saab 9 3 Aero…I’m getting a “steering malfunction” message and I’m not paying out the ass for any new “modules”. I’m going to have to take the ignition switch apart and disable the pin that locks the switch. I’ll still get power when I turn the key to the on position but it won’t start the car. I’m going to install a push button switch with an inline fuse and wire one end to the battery and the other to the starter relay in the fuse box. I hope this works because it is a pain in the ass to take the center console apart…Any knowledgable suggestions would be appreciated! Leave a Reply

YES, definately. However, most catch can installs I see (especially on turbo cars) are done wrong, sometimes allowing boost pressure into the crankcase. These are complicated by the valve being in the inlet mani. I'm gonna be having a replacement head fitted later this year, after that I'll do a catch can install with video.
