Absolutely love it man. Great detail and depth. What tape brands did you use?
@SylvainKlein

thanks man ! For this painting I was using FrogTape (the yellow one, for delicate surfaces) if I recall correclty. It's an expensive one, now days I use a 3M blue tape for delicate surface too. Cheaper and almost as good as the FrogTape. But if you try to do some very clean hard edge on canvas like I am, having a good tape helps but does not make it perfect right away. I have a secret for that ! Once you taped the shape you want to paint in, you have to putt some Matt Gel (from Liquitex) along the tape on the inner side of you shape. This medium will be invisible when it dries and the purpose of applying it is to fill all the mini gap the tape leave between him and the canvas surface. Doing so, the paint will have no gap to go into and then your edge line will be perfect :) ! I hope I was clear enough to help you :)

Hello Silvain! How are you? Everything ok? I would like to know what kind of paint you used for this canvas, would it be a synthetic enamel paint? I look for more affordable alternatives to be able to paint canvases with quality without necessarily having to use traditional acrylic paints, because here in Brazil they cost a high price... Thank you and a hug...

Hi Claudio, I'm fine thanks, I hope you're as well :) For this painting I used classic interior wall paintslike the one you can find in a DIY store or house work store. I hope you'll find something that works for you :) Have a nice day ^^

I just started painting and I have a few questions. How do you get such an even layer of paint with everywhere the same thickness and no darker or lighter spots. When I paint my canvas, it has darker spots around the edges and even some in the middle. Do you paint 1 layer, let it dry and paint another layer? I paint 1 layer and go over it till it is smooth when it is still wet, but I might be going over it too many times. I am not sure and love to know the right technique. Also, do you ever use a brush to paint? I tend to get very different results with brush which I don't like (too many textures), but I paint on such small canvasses (20cmx20cm) that a paint roller is hard to use without going over the edges. Any tips for painting with brushes? Last question, what is the green tape you are using? Thanks!! Love your videos, have watched your making off's 5 times at least :)

Hi Wouter, I hope you're enjoying your painting debuts :) For the "perfect flat color" on my geometrical paintings, as you can see on my video I mainly used spraypaint which give me this result out of the box (after a little can control practice of course). I also use rollers with more classic acrylic paint which works also fine for me. If you use brushes it is more difficult for sure. It depend a lot of the type of brush, your actual brush control and the type of paint... For a start I would suggest mural acrylic paint applied with a roller. With spraypaint 1 layer is enough, with classic or mural acrylic (applied with roller) it will depend of the color and its natural opacity. So 2 or maybe 3 layers will be necessary to get a nice and even look. Wait until a layer is dry to the touch before adding a second one. If you protect the areas you don't want to paint with masking tape you should be good to paint with a roller even on small canvas. Speaking of tape, I tested A LOT of them, even some expensive and from my experience I would say that the best option (for me) is a blue masking tape (delicate surfaces) from 3M (you can find it in any diy/hardware store) . BUT, and this is specially true if your work on a not perfectly smooth surface (like a canvas), the tape itself will not be enough if you're looking for a perfect straight edge. My tip for a perfect edge is to add a matt medium (www.amazon.fr/dp/B000KNJFKI?tag=kitco08-21) and paint it on the edge of your tape. It dries very quickly and it's invisible once dry. It will fill and the tiny gaps that the tape leave on the surface and protect the paint to go under the tape. Like so, when you will pill of the tape, the line should be nice. Glad you like my videos and sorry for not posting anymore, I'm a dad now and made the choice to focus on taking care of my little girl and I will come back to drawing and painting and making video when I will have time, which is not the case right now ahah xD Hope my answer will help you, let me know ^^

@@SylvainKlein Thank you! I am enjoying my debut very much, maybe a little too much haha. I indeed saq you mostly using spraypaint but don't have that option myself. Thanks for the suggestion for the roller and mural acrylic paint, i tried this and it went okay. I did not wait till the layer was dry so that might be why it went 'wrong'. Thank you for the great tip! I wanted to try a painting with only roller and one with only brush and see which one I like more. And I will probably watch your roller and your bursh video to see how it is done properly :) I will try to find the 3M masking tape, thanks for the suggestion. I bought cheap painters tape and it works great until now, it only started letting paint trough when I made more than 3 layers on a white line. Until now my edges are pretty straight but I will certainly try to find the Liquitex Matte Gel for even more perfect lines You have a great reason to not post anymore, no reason to say sorry. And I'm eagerly awaiting your comeback, but don't rush :) Your answer was great, thanks for it! Would you like to see my painting/designs? I work in the ICT world and try to add a unique touch by designing digital and then painting it on canvas. The most trouble I had was with getting the right colours and amount of paint. But working on that :) Thanks again for your very extensive reply

No sorry but thinking about creating one (or few little ones) for a long time now but with my small following it will hard for me to get the return on investment I'm afraid ... but I'll love to. And actually in a kind of "break" because I'm a young father and I made the choice to stay at home taking care of my little girl so I don't really have time to paint at the moment. But I will get back into it as soon as possible.

Sylvain Klein I’m just curios how you get such perfect edges. My paint always bleeds through the tape!
@SylvainKlein
@SylvainKlein 4 жыл бұрын
@@danecory1741 I have a secret tip for that ! :) After taped the shape I want to paint, I first putt a Liquitex Mat Gel medium (see here > kit.co/SylvainKlein/sion-abstract-painting/liquitex-matte-gel ) on all the edges of the shape. This gel is invisible once dry (which is very quick) and fill up all the gaps and prevent the paint to bleed under the tape. :) Hope this will help you ^^ Let me know if you test it :)
